Well I've not gotten adventurous enough yet to buy a whole fleece yet, but some of the businesses that had fiber fairs cancel on them were on a Facebook page last month and I watched them and bought 4 batts and one set of dyed silk hankies. Yes I spent too much but my son bought half of them for my mother's day present! Lol He loves me! And he's a good son! And then he turned around and bought his step father a new set of tires for his motorcycle! They have not got here yet. My hubby will be surprised! Lol I can't wait til they show up! I crochet and have since my cousin taught me when I was 12 yrs old. I bead, with the small seed beads. I sew, I'm learning to spin, I got the Nano electric wheel I'm also teaching myself to knit. Have bought the plans to make a thrifty fox spinning wheel also. Just have to get the materials to cut and put together! This got longer than I ment for it too.

Aw, your son sounds awesome. It sounds like your crafting is growing over time. That's how it has always worked for me.

I watch but don’t weave. I just started spinning, and have been knitting since I was 8. I had a nerve problem, which caused my mouth to run a lot, and even I didn’t know what would come out of it. So I grew up in an animal business. We had a small pet shop in the basement with 100breeder tanks, and small animals to supply the pet shops. We had a farm with 50 head of horses etc. when work was done for evening my mouth would take over. So mom taught me how to knit. It works well I’m 62 now and it’s still working. Some. What. That's a lovely story! My mom taught me to knit during summer break before kindergarten, so i was five. It was to keep me busy and keep me out of her hair. She was finishing up her bachelor's degree in anthropology, and with three kids at home she was so busy. I'm so thankful now! I can't even imagine how many hours of happiness it has given me over the years, not to mention all the beautiful stuff I have made just because my mom needed to keep me busy!

Yes yes! That’s it! When I watch all these videos, I’m transported back to elementary school art hour. They didn’t come along NEAR enough often for me but i loved those moments in school. And recess. And the lunchroom ladies. God I miss my childhood and that was so long ago.

I can do everything you do, except dyeing (and I love watching to understand), but my COVID side effect was total burnout on crafts. I usually have a 3 hr commute every day, and that is my knitting, spindle spinning time on the train. Fulltime telework eliminated that, and my home office is in my 'yarn' room. That made me feel overwhelmed with my stash, and after spending 8-10 hrs working (mostly online meetings) in that room, I did not want to spend more time in there! In Nov. I realized I had to set time for creative pursuits, at least 30 min. A day for my self-care and mental balance. Your fiber journey has really been motivating me!

That sounds really challenging. I was really annoyed that I was too sick to knit for about three days. After that I could knit and/or spin, but it took longer for me to feel mentally and physically ready for weaving. I finally have a weaving project going. I hope you get your mojo back.

I'm like you in the respect that I watch lots of videos on subjects that I will likely never do - like faceting gemstones, etc., but the processes are fascinating and it's always a good thing to continue learning. Thanks for all the info about these various fleeces. I haven't worked with a fleece in a few years, but it's all coming back. Thanks for keeping me company as I sit here and twist the fringes on my handwoven scarf. You are an inspiration for all things fiber-y.!

KZread suggested you to me, probably because ive been watching yarn videos. Surprisingly all the channels i find are crochet folks, and i havent mastered that, but after a roughly 10yr hiatus have delved back into knitting and have been cranking out projects. Anywho ive actually always wanted to attempt weaving and lusted after inkle loom when i did civil war reenactments as a teen/adult while living in chicagoland. Moved to texas and that just isnt a thing here. I hadnt thought much of weaving since but im seriously considering a loom now after watching you! Had a gangbsuter month of expenses (car repairs, er bill, wisdom teeth for 2 kids, legal expenses… etc) so itll have to wait a minute, but im already shopping around. So thanks for enabling me :P

you should totally film the jacob as you skirt it :) Seriously, there is no way you won't get at least $30 worth of fleece from that gigantic box!!! Good deal for sure :) Maybe that new mill can make short work of that box?! :)

In the UK we’d sometimes call that sort of livestock open day/comp etc as a Country Show, or just have the name of the area and ending ‘show’. Our local annual one is called The Black Isle Show. 😀

That makes sense. At county and state fairs, we also have tons of unhealthy food, events where you can enter food and produce for judging and carnival rides. Sometimes even concerts in the evenings and other events. It's just hard to describe.

I have not even watched the video, but the alert that you just posted popped up while I was trying to make myself read the newspaper, and I burst out laughing at it's title; I know exactly what you mean! In the past month I have bought some Jacob fleece from an ewe named Jasmine, and from a different farm some California Red, sounds like wine also nearby. (I have only bought fleece one other time). I too am putting the blame on lock down and supporting local businesses, both being no more than 50 miles away, and both are women owned.

I knit, crochet and sew. I have a spinning wheel but not very good at spinning yet. I watch all your videos even though I don't weave i still watch.

I subbed to KC for 3 months over a year ago and was less than thrilled. At least I gave it an honest try. I think they may be more oriented to newbies, not that there is anything wrong with that. Down breeds make wonderful socks, that BL/BFL is gorgeous, the merino is going to be wonderful to work with, and I can't wait to see all that Jacob spread out. You did good fleece-wise!

Lol!! I was thinking about all the space u made cleaning up, now is a home for the new fiber. I been spindle spinning some small 1 to2 oz batts I found. Ordered a big Turkish spindle to make it easier to ply my spindle spins together. U found some great buys on fiber! I agree that Jacob is a wonderful fiber to spin with. I’m working with Cosmo fiber at the moment it’s been a interesting learning experience. 🐑

Fiber Love Diary I agree on your statement about knit crate. They been slipping in the quality of there boxes. To me it seems they changed there audience to a different group of crafters, or there under different management.

Giiiiirl. I bought 2 Shetland fleeces and 8 braids of Three Waters Farm braids (combo sweater spin). That's not counting the 20+ skeins of yarn. I may have forgotten some stuff. But some is for Xmas knitting so it's ok. ;)

I grew up in the Holland/Zeeland area, so I have been to Ottawa a LOT, and Ionia but I think that's it. Is Oceana in Hart? I will miss a funnel cake this year LOL.

@@FiberLoveDiary it is in Hart. The food is good and it is a pretty decent size fair. We usually make the tractor/truck pull in the grandstands every year.

I've just washed a polwarth merino cross and it's so nice I'm going to make myself a jumper with it x

I bought my first table loom during the look down. I love weaving...

I watch a little bit of everything then try my hand at it to see if it brings me peace and add it to my arsenal of things I do. Spinning and dyeing are what I'm attempting now which is how I foubd your channel. I havent bought much because we recently moved and im trying to finish the unpacking but im burnt out.

Usually we can't buy fleeces there, only animals. We have fiber festivals for buying the fleeces. None of those this year either. Oh well. Good thing I've been stocking up for the last 12 years 😂

My birthday wasn’t great either. (Although some family visited which was wonderful). We had exciting plans to celebrate that had to be canceled (like going to New York 😳) I turned 50! Yikes. So instead my husband let me buy a Ashford Espinner. With my health I couldn’t do a traditional wheel Iike I would have loved to buy. I wish you would have mentioned prices. I don’t know what a good price is for fiber. 🧐 I love to bargain shop too! 😀 I’m loving your channel and your personality. 🤗 I have a channel too but I don’t put out many vlogs due to my health. I love the Yarny community SO much!

So ive been watching sheepishly me channel awhile now and sandi has to PAY to get rid of her wool as she grows for meat and nobody wants wool anymore. She has been trying to find a place to card it (i think she finally did) and considering insulating walls with the wool. I have been watching a bunch of your videos and I was wondering what you look for when buying a fleece- I am sure there are different criteria for fine wool, med, long wools. Like what is the difference between yarn made with a moderate amount of crimp vs a lot of crimp, for example.

Woo, that is a really big question! There are so many variables like the fleece itself, how you prep it, how you spin it, and a ton more. I have thought about doing a video or maybe even a series about this, but the topic is so huge I haven't really figured out how to tackle it. I will think more about it and see what I can come up with!

Lol so funny I canceled my membership about 3 months ago. There customer service is real bad. They would tell ya anything to get you off the phone. I was catching them telling stories. They where missing up bad.

I think I did a washing video wayyyyy back. But I've recently changed my method a little bit based on the method of a friend who seemed to get better results. I thought I might redo with one of these fleeces, because I think it's doing a better job. Are you going to try it??

"Guys, sheep live outside..." Right? Just, pick it out. It's really not that hard. I feel you on the birthday front. My kiddo turned 5 this past week but no real party. :/ And mine's next month and I'm pretty sure that the fireworks are going to be less in the sky and more on the ground.

All the fiber purchases were from tenneysfiberfarm.com (but straight from their Facebook group. The BL/BFL fleece was purchased from Basking Meadow Farm. They don't have a website, but they have a FB page. The other two boxes of fleece were purchased from farms that don't have websites at this time on the FB group called Raw Wool for Sale. Hope it helps!

My favorite COVID purchase is my Ashford Kiwi 3 (and of course all of the fiber and tools over the following few months!) And just yesterday I bought a Leclerc Bergere Rigid Heddle loom from someone downsizing, now to watch some videos to figure out how to get going!!

Maybe the two needles. I really don't know. I have bought needles and everything and then they lay on the table until I take them back to the store. Lol. And I am very much a product crocheter. And I do big projects So it's not about the size of the project I'm wondering if it's because knitting takes so long it's very time-consuming it's very small compared to crochet. Lol. I hope that made a little bit of sense.
