I sang this in an international superiors only four part mens choir the family singers out of Hancock N.Y. and placed second in 2003. one of the most spiritual moments of my life. We almost died when they announced we placed.

I'm curious, what key? Do you drop it an octave to be in the "meat" of your voice, keep the octave, or go for a key somewhere in the middle?

I've known this song for a long time. We've learned it in our English class(in non-English speaking country, obviously). We've never been taught about the story behind it. A GREAT SWING BAND PLAYING THIS PIECE WILL TOUCH YOU. CLASSICAL COMPOSERS WROTE PIECES FOR GOODMAN. BELA BARTOK WAS ONE OF THEM.

Concert halls and venues should have ejection mechanisms installed in their chairs: 1st time someone coughs, a yellow light comes off; 2nd time, spectator flies off through the roof so they can continue to cough on Mars.

This Song is about a good fellow dying..and the composer goes like "dai dap" at the end. Didn't understand the meaning of the lyrics, hm? Though nice choir:-)

i always felt it was his spirit, released from the bonds of his human body, quickly flying back to his home of scotland along the low road, and the elation of being able to return, even if he doesn't get to truly "meet" with his true love again

I️ always thought he was talking about talking about a women he loved and they wanted to keep it a secret. “I’ll take the high road and you’ll take the low road” tell them to go different ways.

The end is supposed to be a solemn march... the song is about a brother sending his dead brother back to Scotland after a war battle. It’s a pride march. Not a dance party 🤦🏻♀️
