Local Lore #2 - Barnard Castle

Durham is a place rich in history and legend. It is home to monstrous worms, goblins, ghosts and water hags.
Two such legends brought me to the quaint, unassuming market town of Barnard Castle in Teesdale. The town, bordering the banks of the River Tees, is named after the ruined Norman castle at its heart.
Beneath its tourist-trap charm, however, lurks a sinister history of hauntings.

Interesting as always. I assumed this was going to be about the court jester known as 'Cummings', who fled mad King Boris' court to Barnard Castle during the plague times.

When I was a kid (about 40 years ago) I think there was a tourist information film showing Barnard Castle and it was quite scary. I mentioned the murder holes and so on. Male narrator. I wish I could find it and see it again.

Great video! I think that you're really going to prove popular one day. English folklore can be a bit of a mess if you can't be in the areas where these supposedly took place, or didn't grow up hearing these stories. Thanks for bringing these stories into digestible formats with well thought out explanations, and visuals that give context or modern- day relevance. That being said, well wishes from Canada!
