The Mire - A Lovecraftian Narrative Film by Chris Burrage

To celebrate the 1000th subscriber to this channel, British Folklore, Myths and Legends releases today The Mire, a short Lovecraftian film.
The Mire is over a year in the making. Inspired visually by Jóhann Jóhannsson's adaptation of Last and First Men, and featuring the haunting coastline of Maldon District in Essex, UK, this film combines startling visual elements, minimalist digital effects and natural landscapes to tell a story of the weird.
The Mire is a narrative art film, written in the style of early weird fiction. It is adjectival, often verbose and steady in pace. I wanted to convey a sense of place with this film, and of time standing still. One can experience this by standing on the Essex marshes. It was this feeling I intended to evoke in this film.
This was a solo project, and partly the reason it took so long to make! I learned a lot making it, and look forward to creating more folkloric projects of this nature.
