LOADING UP ON SPRING TIME WILD GOLDEN SHINERS - CATCH THEM YOURSELF WITH A CAST NET

Have you ever gotten tired or discouraged by how expensive buying shiners from a bait and tackle shop? While we will always support our local tackle shops buy purchasing shiners when we are in a pinch, we much prefer to catch our own.
We have learned a lot about how to locate wild shiners, what their habitat and habits are like, and what kind of chum to use to get them. In this video, we are going to use an age-old method of attracting bait by using raw oats. Super simple! Super inexpensive! Then comes the cast net! Off the back yard in our dock in Broward County, Florida, we have found out how to catch all the shiners we need with minimal effort simply by use of chum and then throwing a cast net. We also have found out some tips that we will share about seasonal differences in the approach of finding shiners. The spring time offers many juvenile shiners and peacock and largemouth bass love em!

I'm in Ocala and catch shiners. The absolute best chum is layer crumble chicken feed from rural king. its 10 bucks for a 40lb bag. I toss out a drinking glassfull. Price per ounce its the cheapest, but is the absolute most effective.

Fantastic!!!!! I’ll keep that in mind. I’m gunna come up to Dunellon for a week in June. I’m going to bring my skiff. We have a friend with a house on the Withlacootchee river. Any advice on fishing that place?

@@watchyourlip3209 I haven't made it out there yet even though there's a ramp 15mins up hwy 200 from me. If you're hunting for bigger fish Lake Rousseu is just west of Dunnelon not very far. If you drive to the dam at the west end of the lake and put in on the west side you can find good numbers of snook mixed in with the bass and you can catch both on spinner baits and swim baits.

I’m an hour south of you. How do you keep them alive in this heat? Got a dozen enormous ones last week. Aerator running and all but 3 died fairly quickly.

@@holdemholmes good question. You must keep them in the shade. Also, put a frozen ice pack in the water. They like the cool water

Yeah. It’s a love hate relationship. The grass makes great home for the shiners but makes it real hard to fish
