Easy Way - How To Catch Mackerel and Kill Them humanely For Food
Ойын-сауық
In this video I will show you how to catch mackerel the easy way. This method is my preferred method for catching mackerel quickly, a few to cook or for bait. Hopefully this tutorial on what I use and the setup will help you catch mackerel too. The venue I chose is not the easiest type of mark to fish but this guide should enable you to fish those harder areas to get you venturing out to quiet spots away from the crowds of other anglers. Thanks for watching.

About a month ago, I was teaching two guys up near Oban how to mackerel fish and it pretty much followed exactly as you suggest, even to dispatching the fish. The only difference is that I still use mono (8lb, so light enough to still cast 70 yards or so). I tried braid but found it was very prone to wear on any rocks and just too expensive to replace. Keep up the good work. I followed your advice on using bombarda for sea trout and it has helped a lot. Thanks 👍

Great job on the teaching side to get people catching fish👍I’ve had the same braid on the real for 4 seasons now, admittedly it’s length is a wee bit shorter than when I first put it on the real from wear and tear.I do use this real for a multitude of different fishing uses like kayak lure fishing for cod and pike. Really enjoy your vids, especially the tutorials on Bombarda fishing. I found them most informative for my recent trip to Scotland. Excellent fun and technique. Agree about 20-60g rod weight, and the Penn Battle 4000 is a true workhouse of a spinning reel. The ‘transit van’ of the reel world. One Q though, when you say ‘straight into deep water’, what are you calling ‘deep’ ? How many feet ? I also use Navionics and it is fun researching my own marks, but what depth are we looking for ? Top work. Keep the vids coming.

Thanks James, appreciate that. If your wanting your son to be able to cast safety without much trouble from snagging on the bottom, I would recommend somewhere like Helensburgh pier, like any fishing even for mackerel, I can’t guarantee they will be there. It’s mostly sandy bottom so you would be able to cast out with a weight and some mackerel bait on he bottom. If your looking for a rock mark? Drive through Garelochhead and stay on the road to Rosneath. About a mile along the road there is a large lay-by on the right of road with parking also on the left. It’s a very popular mark and relatively deep water. Tight lines buddy🎣

@PiscatorUK-Fishing

Not necessarily, I think if you’re going to keep them all day and you don’t keep them cold before taking them home, bleeding them will stop them turning. Mackerel are not bleed when they are caught commercially.
Had got several of the Bombarda floats in different weights and with the floating and slow sinking though not tried the slow sinking as yet , as where i fish with with rocks also can be a bit iffy i suspect Plus have to watch for birds in the water , as been known small ducks have grabbed baits and no one wants that a hooked bird and had happened not to me but has to others . I got Bombarda idea from your past video catching sea trout thanks . And also for me Scotland is tops for fishing . Top scenery also seems where u are adds to the fishing . Ignore any of the not good comments as i suspect they are jealous . You are showing them videos and they do aid others in how to tie things and what to buy etc and good for newbies learning ..I was always a fresh water trout fishing guy but them days on salt water fishing into sea . Tight lines 👍
Thank you for an informative video, as an angler of some sixty years the only thing that I would add, would be a swivel to the top of your trace and a snap swivel to the bottom. These allow a quicker tackle up or change of tackle if you want to change and I feel that there is less wear on the lead end, but this is not a critisism.

Good to see that you respect the fish when you decide to keep them, and don't let them flap about and suffocate. Touching a mackerel to release it, is fine and for some reason, the myth continues that they die if touched.

Very good, I am quite experienced but still found it interesting. I used to live in Exeter and you can get mackerel down there all year around. I have moved back home to the North East of England so now I am not so lucky as it is my favourite fish to catch and eat, it saddens me to see people pulling them in 6 at a time and just leave them drowning in air. I assume west coast of Scotland, but where? Not the exact mark, but just rough area as I may be having a holiday in Scotland later in the year. John

Mate dont worry about the negative comments, i have just gone and watched your first video and personally i think it was really good. Good tip for new anglers is practice, practice and more practice, you can watch a million videos and yes learn tips and tricks but practice is still what is needed. Lastly people shouldnt try to copy exactly what you do, they should look at not only your videos but all fishing videos as guides and not a how to. A bit of solitude when fishing is best it's good to get the peace plus you can see more nature,stren is similar to braids casts well good way and easy explanation of the rigs rather than some other anglers skip over and hardly share clearly their rigs

Thanks buddy👍
Some people just like to piss on other folks enjoying their lives. I clip the gills of our local Spanish Mackerel. I have a kitchen shears in my pack. When I take a bluefish or mack, *snip snip. The gills are next to the heart and the blood pressure is highest here. The loss of blood pressure renders them unconscious with the usual last effort to swim away, It's a cruel world but A mackerel's mouth is a fearsome thing and no less cruel.

What's the best way to cook and eat them?

Hello Harold, if you get nice weather, my favourite way is straight out the water on the shore over fire, simply grilled either filleted or whole with a little salt and pepper. At home Filleted and shallow fried with a little oil, salt and pepper, mackerel also take on spices really well, you can eat them like that or after frying let them cool and break the flesh up they make the best fish cakes. I did a video on mackerel fish cakes. Check it out below👍 Delicious Mackerel Recipe for Fish Cakes - Cook your Catch kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZKaK2sF_mtyZYKw.html

If you are good at something, show it off. We only ever learn from someone who has more experience. I've learnt a ton of things through watching videos by people who know what they are doing.

Why to reel when u are using a sabiki
@PiscatorUK-Fishing
8 ай бұрын
As I explained, if I didn’t reel the the wait would go straight to the bottom. The point of the video was you can still catch mackerel it tricky areas, this method will help if you are fishing over rocks. It’s not the same as fishing from a boat or kayak. If you stopped reeling in your just going to get snagged on the bottom.
Why 40lb you could do the same with 20. 40 is overkill

Totally agree mate, vid aimed more for the novice or beginner buddy. One snag on the bottom with 20lb braid, ba bye rig or worse 100 yards of braid. Cheers for the comment tho👍
