Great video, two points I would like to add. Calm sees are best for catching Mackerel from a beach. If the sea is rougher the Mackerel shoals will be further offshore usually out of reach. If you don't see the sea 'boiling' they can still be there just not hunting on the surface. In that case cast and let the feathers drop through the water before retrieving.

I loved the comment at the end of the video "don't take more than you need", a chap down here in Weymouth 2 years ago said to me and my daughter "I've caught 48, would you like some, (I was mackerel fishing) and he dragged a MASSIVE great bag of fish off the pier, between me and my daughter we caught over a 100 ...... WE took 6, I'm a fisherman not a fish murderer

I live and fish on the Llyn Peninsula of N Wales and like you there were hardly any mackerel around here last summer. No problem whatsoever with catching Bass as there were plenty of them in the 3lb range. Also lots of garfish. Strangely I never saw any Whitebait. In 2020 the sea was full of Whitebait all around the shore and plenty of mackerel chasing them everywhere 🤷‍♂️

Cracking video, really enjoyed it. It’s worth saying that when the mackerel are chasing the Whitebait on to the beach, get a bag and collect as many as you can. They are absolutely fantastic to eat, especially if you eat some with a couple of fillets of mackerel. I freeze small bags full, I.e. enough for a meal. I fry them in a hot frying pan for about a minute in a little rapeseed oil and drizzle a little bit of butter just before taking them out of the pan and they are as good to eat as any fish in the sea. Never use olive oil to fry fish in as it ruins before it gets hot enough👍🏻

I live in New Zealand, fish from a boat most weeks all year around. If you saw how any oil other than extra virgin olive oil was made, you would never ever eat it. I use extra virgin Spanish olive oil with butter, but don't get the pan smoking hot. Dust the fillet with flour 60 to 90 seconds a side perfect, but we are very lucky with snapper, kahawai and kingfish. Mackerel for us is bait, bit spoilt orobably

@@joedennehy386 you lucky lucky Devi you! For us here in the UK our mackerel are the tastiest fish in the sea and as such they really have to be looked after and cooked properly. With regards the use of cooking oil, even Rick Stein advises not to use olive oil, either virgin or other for frying! Actually the best medium for frying is good old fashioned lard with a lump of butter smeared on the fillet just before removing from the pan👍🏻 My wife never dusts the fillet with flour, but she does heat up the pan till it’s smoking hot, drops the fillet in the pan, skin side down, and then turns down the heat and fries it for 10 minutes and it’s fantastic 👍🏻 She fries my Bass and pollock in the same manner 😉

Do you fish along the beachfront at Eastbourne or Langley point and what is the best time of year to go? Its May now, but the weather is still unsettled and not to warm. When do the whitebait come in. Sorry, but I am a novice and have only been fishing a few times, so want some encouragement. :)

Happy fishing :)
