I haul this stuff everyday . This would never had happened if he had stakes along the trailer ! I some times run my binders from both sides so I can put a pull from both sides . He also should have chained the bottom row down tight then loaded the second row and chained them with more chain . Steel shifts going down the road it all so bites the wood skids so the binders do come loose . the driver must be a rookie .

Another interesting job! I am always amazed at one thing, the difference in the diameter of the lifting implements. At 27:41 check out the size of the swivel, hook and then shackle. It looks like the pin for the shackle , goes thru the hole in the beam is quarter the size of the hook!! It’s always like this , everywhere and it’s crazy! How does a 1/2 pin hold 3000 lbs and not even bend!! I worked on fishing boat and we routinely used a 3/8 shackle to pickup two 1000 doors with never a problem! Everything used in this lifting is huge until it gets down to the piece then it’s small. What’s the physics in this?????

  • @CountryEquipmentRentals

So that smaller shackle you're referring to is rated for 4 tons which is 8,000 lbs. The piece of steel weighs 3,000 lbs. So each shackle was lifting 1,500 lbs. So 6,500 lbs under its working load limit.

I was in the structrial steel businss for 20 years and never loaded i-beams like that, we always laid them down. No matter how tight you make them the trailer flex could make one climb.

H3N2 Yeah, we just loaded it the weigh the driver already had it loaded. The way we chained it down should be much better than the first time.

My only recommendation to the driver would be to put the binders in the center of the load where possible. It will pull them together rather than have a tendency to want to pull them over. Nice work guys!

You should mention to the driver that he should have laid those large beams flat if you get this kind of call again. One other thing he should have done was to have screwed and clamped, where possible, each steel beam to the one next to it, if he had holes that lined up, he could have done that easy, and have the beams interlocking with each other, instead of being a bunch of cantankerous individual beams bumping each other around. He should know how to load these beams properly the next time, if you get a call from him again you should consider charging double for properly sorting out his loading issues for him.

Maybe it wouldn't hurt to have a couple of spreader bars on your truck that way you could pick up long objects easier for each crane hoist. That would make each job a little faster and safer .

OKS !!! Goes to show that ""HASTE MAKES WASTE"" when they loaded that trailer at the shipper & with very few chains to hold that load WAS a disaster waiting for a place to happen !!! NOT a fan of pullover chain binders any way as can't get them to stay tight!!! Great job & thankfully no one got hurt !!! ""KEEP IT SAFE ""!!

It really just depends on what it is. Michael just went out alone on a winchout today. If we feel like certain jobs will require more people then we have more people, so it really just depends.
