Llanelli Male Voice Choir - Land of my Fathers

Музыка

Llanelli Male Voice Choir singing "Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau".
The words were written by Evan James and the tune composed by his son, James James, both residents of Pontypridd, Glamorgan, in January 1856.
(Pennill Cyntaf - First stanza)
Mae hen wlad fy nhadau yn annwyl i mi,
Gwlad beirdd a chantorion, enwogion o fri;
Ei gwrol ryfelwyr, gwladgarwyr tra mad,
Dros ryddid collasant eu gwaed.
(Cytgan - Chorus)
Gwlad, gwlad, pleidiol wyf i'm gwlad.
Tra môr yn fur i'r bur hoff bau,
O bydded i'r hen iaith barhau.
(Ail Bennill - Second stanza)
Hen Gymru fynyddig, paradwys y bardd,
Pob dyffryn, pob clogwyn, i'm golwg sydd hardd;
Trwy deimlad gwladgarol, mor swynol yw si
Ei nentydd, afonydd, i mi.
(Cytgan - Chorus)
(Trydydd Pennill - Third stanza)
Os treisiodd y gelyn fy ngwlad tan ei droed,
Mae hen iaith y Cymry mor fyw ag erioed,
Ni luddiwyd yr awen gan erchyll law brad,
Na thelyn berseiniol fy ngwlad.
(Cytgan - Chorus)
And in English:
The old land of my fathers is dear to me,
Land of bards and singers, famous men of renown;
Her brave warriors, very splendid patriots,
For freedom shed their blood.
Nation [or country], Nation, I am faithful to my Nation.
While the sea [is] a wall to the pure, most loved land,
O may the old language [sc. Cymraeg] endure.
Old mountainous Wales, paradise of the bard,
Every valley, every cliff, to my look is beautiful.
Through patriotic feeling, so charming is the murmur
Of her brooks, rivers, to me.
If the enemy oppresses my land under his foot,
The old language of the Welsh is as alive as ever.
The muse is not hindered by the hideous hand of treason,
Nor [is] the melodious harp of my country.

    Oh my goodness. Tears are streaming. My mother was born in Llanelli. The Working Mans Club attendees all stood and sang to my partner and I when my mum’s cousins took us there. I can’t believe the depth of emotion this brings out in me.

    My Grandmother was Welsh, I was born and bred in the Black Country so I consider myself English, but; without any shadow of doubt, this is the most passionate, wonderful anthem on planet Earth. Grandma died at the ripe old age of 92, she was incredibly proud of being a taff, and I am incredibly privileged to have loved her.

    My Mother was from Merthyr Tydfil. I am in constant touch with my welsh family and holidayed there as a child all the time. Our culture in our home was half Welsh and half irish, but I was born and bred in England. Such a good version - sung with passion as it should be. Wonderfully stiring to me.

    My great grandad George Johnson Pryce was Welsh,served in the Royal Navy in WW1,Artificer 4th class,looking through the archives to read about him,even before I knew this for some reason something always pulled me toward Cymru even when I was quite young, remember watching Zulu when the Welsh boys started singing "Men of Harlech" & didn't know why I was crying 😥 "Cadw'r Fffydd" (hope I got that right)

    No other anthem has the has the power to affect other nations in the way that this does. I'm a Man of Kent, now living on the Welsh border and it gets me every time. If you need proof, just watch the anthems at Wales v England from 2013. The English team tried their best with God Save the Queen, but what followed was incredible.

    ***** thanks for the offer Jazz 6971 next time i visit the UK i will most certainly visit Wales . last time was on a canal barge and the memory lives with me to this day, absolutely stunning. as for Jacob, no hard feelings, when i come across a cobra on my travels i will always poke it with a stick because i just want to see it raise its head, but the truth is if they didn't rise up then i wouldn't bother poking it, lol.

    nomad90125 If you want a worthwhile place to visit in England, look no further than Cornwall (AKA Kernow). Lovely people, lovely culture. They're often the forgotten Celtic nation when compared to Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

    Going through this magnificent country at times I felt as though it were Middle Earth. A magnificent land and I'm glad to say my boys have some Welsh ancestry through their mother. The music matches the soil and the people who live there.

    Mae hen wlad fy nhadau yn annwyl i mi, Gwlad beirdd a chantorion, enwogion o fri; Ei gwrol ryfelwyr, gwladgarwyr tra mad, Dros ryddid collasant eu gwaed. Gwlad!, GWLAD!, pleidiol wyf i'm gwlad. Tra môr yn fur i'r bur hoff bau, O bydded i'r hen iaith barhau. Hen Gymru fynyddig, paradwys y bardd, Pob dyffryn, pob clogwyn, i'm golwg sydd hardd; Trwy deimlad gwladgarol, mor swynol yw si Ei nentydd, afonydd, i fi. Os treisiodd y gelyn fy ngwlad tan ei droed, Mae hen iaith y Cymry mor fyw ag erioed, Ni luddiwyd yr awen gan erchyll law brad, Na thelyn berseiniol fy ngwlad.
