I quite like it to be honest I appreciate it may not be to everybody’s taste, I understand why the shape of it make it slippery. The tech is next level. Great video

what this toxic waste has to do with AMG? is it one man, one engine part? is it hand build V8 or V12 in Affalterbach story? or is it trick to sell tesla with mercedes logo marked as AMG for highest margin? I wonder if the batteries are wrapped in more than 10 kg of Vermiculate (asbestos) just like tesla? so sad to see youtubers manipulated to sell the lies like this!!

The tech is next level because it's actually a mobile tablet. I can't call these 'things' cars, but that's my personal opinion.
No good angle on it. Don’t know how they let this design language out. It’s a little alike the 5 series GT coming out back in 2009. Just looked ungainly. Ironically the Hatchback 5 series GT ended up a practical large German quality car.

Ev’s are the biggest joke in the history of this earth. Imagine spending 150k just to wait 3 H in the real world to charge to 80%😂😂😂
“That lucky guy got here before me” i’m not sure I agree, I think I could actually see the life being drained out of him!!
I’m not sure if it was the camera angle but that steering wheel looks MASSIVE
40min charge for 30 miles????? Couldn't live with that. Crazy. Give me a real AMG to gas up in 2 mins
I think reviewers really need to get ahold of two tone EQS models, my neighbor has one and it looks awesome like that. He originally had an all black one and sold it and got the two tone one and that was a great move.

Typical 'electric blob' on outside. To be fair, inside looks nice & at least screen is integrated/designed in, rather than usual laptop stapled to dash. But, the usual 'washing machine syndrome' - 10 million programs when you only ever use 3.
This car can be summed up as a electric s class with a lot of power , insane tech and just amg badges on it
Amazing video Sam! Your experience with charging clearly shows there is a problem. How are those chargers always broken? Whatever company gets that right will make millions! A good podcast idea could be to get a cabbie on who had a petrol cab and now has a electric one…. How long does it take them to charge up. How much does it cost? Have there been times where they have potentially lost hundreds in fares because the charger is broken?
@ronaldjanssen105

That company is called Tesla 🙂. And is indeed making millions.
Only Sam can make a video interesting and enjoyable to watch about an electric car. I pray for synthetic fuels to help save the climate and combustion engine cars!!!
If you now cannot touch a mobile device whilst driving, how come everything is now becoming touch screen?
Nice one!! Keep it up Sam!
Very funny at 7:24 how they forgot to put motors or batteries in the AMG performance menu instead of engine
160K for a 2.5 tonne behemoth, that will get you 350 miles. That’s not progression in my mind….bearing in mind the target buyer for an S class, might not even drive it, not sure what it’s target market is….great video as ever though, and a considered insight into the real issues around charging and running an EV.

All You said Sam was the most polite way of saying you don’t like it really…
I still have a lot of mixed feelings with electric cars. How green they truly are, how they will effect the electric grids once everyone starts to adopt electric cars and the lack of emotion. I find a lot of the new cars very distracting which is rather ironic given the arguments years prior about distracted drivers and cell phones. Great video. Thanks!

Thank you! Great living with video, tech from the future right here and now, that is impressive regardless of yay/nay EV's. Hope you can still do a 2022 revisit of your Scotland trip, the one with the Audi, meaning frozen pizzas and all with an EV. Perhaps Mercedes is up for the idea? Happy to see I’m not the only one not liking the style of that car. Great review by the way.
Love the video. Love the overshirt. What is it?
Hey Sam! Is the Porsche steering wheel bracelet still available somewhere? Or is there a possibility for a rerun?
Im glad that Adelaide is at least 10-15 years behind the rest of the world looking that we have only one tesla supercharger in the city, so I’ll be enjoying my petrol AMG for sometime 😅
Sam, your video perfectly describes why Musk is a multi-billionaire and Tesla is the benchmark; he put the network in before he sold the cars that needed it. I had a BMW I3 and had the issue that you highlight. A poor generic charging network. With Tesla I have never had to wait, never had less than 50KW (normally over 100KW and now more and more 250KW) and no faffing with apps. I didn’t check every comment so apologies for any repetition.
Let me get my coffee it's Sunday with STG!
I get it, but until the prices for EV’s come down to a manageable level the sales will not continue to a significant amount. Besides this one just doesn’t look good, I would think AMG should know better…
I feel like cars like your ferrari and others that really pull at our heart strings encapsulate the idea that the journey is the destination. An 8 hour trip on a motorway in an electric car isn't really the same as a sports / super car and I can't get away from the feeling that most people in these electric vehicles really just don't even want to be on the road at all. And all us car enthusiasts would be the better for it if they weren't either. Do you think that 8 hour roundtrip on the motorway would have been more enjoyable if done via train?
The paddles behind the steering wheel would be to change the false sounds from duckling to birdie or to harmonica or bavarian whistle.
Does the car not have the option of telling you were charging places are and the spaces available?
Give me spark plugs and distributor anytime 😂😂😂🎃🍂🍁
But its £161.860 which is far to much.
Very cool Sam. But for amg on car I like see more of amg flair maybe 2door or 4 door sporty hatchback
I may have missed it in the video, but what do the paddle "shifters" do on the back of the wheel?
A lot more advertising creeping in since the GT3 was ordered Sam 😂 still a great video and looking forward to more road trips

Excellent car Sam, and good to hear your views on it. However, you say you don't want to 'hoon it' (my words for what you said) because you'll lose all your charge (and I know you don't mean the whole lot). Yet, with other, fossil cars, you do the same thing, only, it's petrol, fossil fuel. I think that lots of petrolheads (myself included) think differently when it comes to fossil fuel, and not 'electrons.' Yes, we know if we give it some wellie in a fast car, the fuel level will decrease, sometimes at an alarming rate. The same is happening with the electrons, just they are a different medium to fuel. I also agree with you on the poor state of chargers in this country, they are not maintained enough. It feels like the operators of these things have either not employed enough technicians to go and fix them sharpish, or they just can't be arsed.

This is not the successor to the S-Class AMG. As it is not the Successor of the S-Class.
What was your total drive time, and total charging time?
As you say it’s an AMG version of the EQS which is the limousine of the Mercedes Benz brand and not a sports coupe or sportscar
So, 40 min to get 30 miles, lets say that 1 gallon of fuel which is about 15 seconds at the fuel pump… And lets not go down the road of a few years time when you get to the charge station, plug in, and it says “charging system error , please reset car to proceed” at which time you may as well call up the nearest scrap yard and weigh it in. Environmentally friendly, lets see in 10 years time shall we. I’ll keep my 20 year old, 150,000 Mk1 Audi TT which I can service at home thank you. Great Videos btw Sam, always make my Sunday evening watching a pleasure.
When was the last time you stopped at a petrol pump and it wasn't working????? The charging network really does need to improve.
Coffee and STG!
yFood what a jip. Just buy a protein shake at any super market or the powder and make your own.
EV’s: I still find it emotional lacking ‘things’, can’t really call them cars. An AMG batch on an EV doesn’t make sense. For city driving or commute to work and back it’s doable, but we are almost forced into them, and that’s my biggest concern. I drive yesterday on the ‘autobahn’ and enjoyed my Mercedes C450 AMG, a Mercedes that deserve the AMG batch, lots off emotions flooring it…
How come no 4k resolution on this video?
Why does it need the paddles on the steering wheel for?
what is about energie-theft #Stromdiebstahl bzw. Stromdiebstahlschutz ?
I have a Lucid GT-Performance which I believe croaks the MB in many ways.
Great video Sam,well presented about the car ,love the technology, screens etc . Unfortunately again the charging infrastructure in this country is still not there. I love Mercedes’ cars . As a 60 + year old I will never be able or drive a car like this as the cost is spiralling to high. Great video keep it up 👍.

Great Video Sam, the charging issues seem to be a reoccurring theme on EV reviews, things need to improve for 2030 by a huge margin. I cant see myself moving to an EV for the foreseeable future, as I don't have the patience to sit for 45mins - an hour to do what I can do now in 5mins.
Surely AMG and ///M could think of a new division for their electric cars
AMG must represent something different on an EV - “Antithesis of Motoring Gratification” sounds about right
You don’t say how heavy it is feels depressing that these two ton plus cars are the future let’s hope F1 gets synthetic fuels going! It’s not for me that’s for sure not that I could afford it of course Keep up the good work

OK I am just going to comment on this before I see the video: I hope (and I underline before I see the video) that you get the concept with a clear mind and no wrong pre-conceptions. Then I will comment after I see it.
Got to be honest, this car is about as interesting as a new Vauxhall Astra. 😄
I note a few undertakers have the non AMG one in black
Casual Tesla passing by at 1:09 🤣
Had to take my EV on a 4hr 250 mile trip at the weekend as my ICE car was at dealer having service which over ran. Outbound great as at 4am and fully charged at home, also top up at Cambridge services which had 6 inonity charger (and free of charge at moment) … journey back not so good! Sheffield is not well served for chargers in public car parks so need to charge at motorway services on way back…. First one had ONE charger and 3 cars waiting in front of me… next services had THREE chargers all of which were occupied and had only just connected but I had to wait…. My 4 hour journey then became a 7 hours 50 mins journey !!! 😡
This is an AMG, except it's not.
Imagine a button breaking in 10 years time, that thing wil be financially totaled xD As will be with all other cars... Trow Away Economy

Or even a Ford Fiesta, while they are around!
That dashboard is ridiculous, unnecessary and worse, distracting. When a function goes wrong the entire panel will need changing (rather than a single switch/button). Not to mention poor visibility when the sun shines on it, dust and grime through static and finger prints. But I guess with all the time an owner is going to be sitting stationary waiting for the bloody thing to charge, you need some entertainment. BTW, I don't agree that 1 hour to gain 60 miles is OK. I think you are being generous.
Mercedes did the best job of the screens than any car I’ve seen. I hate it when the square screen is plunked down. The Tesla looks like an IPad was mounted by a local stereo shop.

Sam you are comparing it to the wrong AMGs if you compare it to the GTs and C classes. You should compare it to the S Class AMGS and they are as haevy and as big as the EQS.
To be fair, the UK is so behind on infrastructure compared to most of the rest of Europe. Ideally, you should just be using IONITY in the UK as well though.
Planet killers with current battery tech, infrastructure is crap, and the MB your in like most of their new vehicles looks rubbish. Luckily inside they are very nice. Great video as always Sam but no more electric car crap please.
I would definitely consider a regular EQS over an S-Class, but I don't really see the point in electric AMGs to be fair. AMG's were never really built for cornering now were they. And every electric car is fast as it is in a straight line.
make sure your mates mercedes dispose of batteries safely and not dump in sea or bury them in ground when no ones looking !
2018 called, they want their Toyota Corolla Altis back.
Gonna be honnest, that interior is anxiety inducing, who wants to sit in a giant laptop on wheels after they finished a day of work
IF I would be on the market to buy the EQS I would go for the 580+ and not the 53 AMG. I don't think it's a proper AMG. I have Tesla Model 3 LR and for me what in a way distracted you with tech is exactly the opposite with the Tesla. The tech is there but it's not imposing. I don't live in the UK but for what I've seen on several videos your charging infrastructure is an absolute pain although it's getting better. As for me arround here I can't complain but the charging bit it's a process that in the beggining is the worst thing to get used to if your daily commute is too long but IMO an EV works better if you can alwyas charge at home and only do some fills to extend the range. And there is where Tesla excels for me, Tesla Supercharger are always working. You get used to it and for a daily driver is just perfect and as for long road trips I can't complain also. I did Lisbon > Florence > Lisbon (5169km) and it was amazing, wouldn't have been better in combustion car unless maybe if it was a Bentley Continental GT .... but it's not the same price range is it? also not the same expenses in "fuel" :D
In my opinion new Mercedes cars have very cheap interiors. Screens and black plastic everywhere, since when is that luxurious. And since when is that reliable or lasting.
1 hour for 60 miles???? lol bruh can we all agree that hybrids are literally the way to go not EV this whole EV push is premature to be honest.

The problem with electric cars is the government because it's the government's pushing forward in forcing mass adoption of EVs. The previous infrastructure is crap because there wasn't any real demand for it. The future infrastructure will be crap because they won't be able to fulfill supply after mass adoption.
What a disrespect to actual AMGs.
Why does it have to look like it's trying to shout "im an EV". Cant they make it look a bit more normal and I might buy into it

Realistically it’s the AMG SUV market that this would appeal to. Those make no sense to me as an AMG either, they are also giant overweight behemoths. And if your getting one of these, then you are most likely getting a charger installed at home which takes out the vast majority of charging concerns.
Great video again Sam. Seriously all this tech is such a load of bollocks. Who needs all of it? Some of the safety and a few driver aids yes... but the rest is just upselling garbage from the manufacturers...
