I'm sure you realize just how blessed you are that you have such a beautiful island! I think I can safely say that I am not the only one that is jealous. I'm sure there are pros and cons to living on an island, but, for me, the pros would outweigh the cons. Take care of those sweet babies and I am looking forward to seeing more videos.

Greetings from Australia. I was blown away by your nonchalant attitude to minus 45C. I experienced minus 20C once at my farm, but found it too cold to work outside. I came across your channel last night and have spent today watching all your videos. You are such a wonderful explainer and story teller and your videos are a pleasure to watch.

Awe such a great comment! Thank you so much ♥️. As we are just getting off of summer now, -45*C scares me haha. But as winter progresses, us Canadians seem to climatize 😊. The only thing that seems to be tricky, is that it's not really possible to layer-up feet and hands. The rest of the body is fine if you wear lots of clothes! So glad to have you join us. Cheers!

@@sarahguest5232 I have found sheepskin mitts and gloves are the warmest for hands outdoors. And, raw wool socks inside toe rubbers with wool felt insoles are incredible for feet!

Those sunsets!! And now I can see why you don't have bears....They would have to swim a looooooong way to get there:):) 2 months in town will give you a chance to visit friends and family, do clothes and supplies shopping for the season etc. Maybe its not terrible to have to leave for a bit...soon you will be back! Love your little island and home.

Thank you so much ♥️! It's not unheard of for bears to swim to islands on the lake, but those islands are much bigger and have blueberries to entice their hungry bellies. You are right - I need to look at the positives!! Soon we will be back out to enjoy a winter wonder land :).

Gotta love Lac La Ronge ! I am real familiar with the lake, as I grew up on those big waters….so much fun ! 👌🏽👍🏽 That part of the lake you are on (Jackson islands area) I always thought was pretty open and dangerous (high winds big waves)…

Thanks! Cool to hear that you're familiar with the place! We're really lucky where we are because we have other small islands surrounding us in every direction except one. There's an open section from the SE, but because it's on the backside of the island we don't really have to deal with those death waves haha. The lake can definitely get scary though. There's a good 5km of big open water that we have to travel through if we want to get to, or from, town.

I bought my winter gear from Weaver and Devore in Yellowknife NWT. They have been outfitting people for northern conditions for years. I got a pair of mitts good for -60 and they are wonderful except when it's only -10. My hands are always cold and these mitts are too warm! I have been known to carry them because of that. Love your videos.

We don't own the island. The only portion we do own, is the cabin building. We lease a small portion of land surrounding the cabin. We are on a 100yr lease and the lease fees are roughly $600.00/year. We are very lucky on our lake, as it is rare for two cabins to share an island (particularly the small islands). Most people around here have their "own" island 😊.

I'm unfortunately not licenced to carry either... However, seeing as our cabin is on such a small island, and in the middle of a large lake, we don't need protection from wildlife. There have been bear sightings on large islands closer to mainland, but never at our place 😊. I DO feel a bit uneasy when we go camping in the bush (on mainland), but luckily our bears and wolves are quite shy. We've encountered them a few times and they run away terrified. I never allow myself to get too comfortable with it though!
