    Hi this is the girlfriend. I wanted to make it clear that I am a senior at Arizona State University finishing my bachelors of science in Applied biological sciences. I have been with clinton before he had this much money, so I love him with or without money. We split all shared costs minus the mortgage (I offered to pay, but this was Clinton’s choice to help me cut cost while I am in school). My sister katelin is only 19 and just moved in with us a couple months ago to get out of the small town we grew up in for opportunities here in Austin. She plans to get her own place when she starts school in August. Clinton is very kind to let us help her start a healthy adult life. The video does not explain our situation well, but It did explain how awesome clinton is. I am happy he can share his wonderful story. Thanks for watching.

    Hey! He is a nice guy and It shows that you both are grateful for his support. My boyfriend paid for some of my education and rent for my last 3 semesters at uni. We had been together for 2 years and decided to move to the US. Because my immigration status I could only work 10 hours/week at university so he picked the tab. But as soon as I graduated and was able to get a good job I paid him every cent ( some cash and covered his rent for 1.5 years). At times I wished I didn’t have to, but I felt obligated to do it, mainly to honor his generosity. But I have always been extremely independent and while I do appreciated his support I don’t want to owe my success ( whatever that means) to anyone. We have been happily together 7 years . Good luck to you guys ( he is a keeper for sure 😉).

    It's sick to see how Austin has grown so much in the last 30 years or so, i was last there in 1988, and yeah I could tell there was a vibe in the air and pretty much a hip place to be and a big college town, and that was before DELL Computer Co. blew up in the 90's, but they still had a tiny, outdated airport and really only 1 interstate, I-35, and the traffic was heavy at times... OMG! I can't imagine what the traffic is like today? Fughed about it!

  • @TroyWarr1980

    @TroyWarr1980

    2 жыл бұрын

    There's undoubtedly a lot of hard work involved to get to Clinton's level, but you might be surprised how much opportunity there is for just about anyone who's reasonably smart, self-motivated, and who shows up. Software engineering is kind of a unique field in that it generally doesn't require a degree, certification, or license to practice. Early-stage startups, especially, often can't be too picky about their hires (there is *so* much demand for talent, and startups can't usually get anywhere close to Clinton's salary), so it often doesn't take much more than showing up eager to work, and finding a way to make a net contribution. I've worked at 4 or 5 Austin-based startups over the last decade or so, and all of them had a small army of employees/contractors making $20-40/hr for things like basic data entry, spreadsheets, light-duty programming (things that aren't worth a $150/hr engineer's time like email templates, basic marketing websites, etc.) - the sort of stuff you can probably figure out eventually if you're decently handy with computers. It's fast-paced work with long hours, so the key is to try your hardest to be as self-sufficient as possible so that you're adding value without needing a whole lot of handholding. Still, even the most senior engineers are still learning every day, so don't be afraid that you're not good enough because you still have a lot of growth ahead of you. You might try doing some Googling to see if there are some early-stage startups in your area. Get your resume together, maybe do a small project that you're proud of and are eager to share via GitHub, and reach out. Ask them how you can help. You might be surprised how much demand there is for people who are still getting started in the industry.

If they are respectful of his home and stipulations then who cares? Some people have service minded hearts. They like to help people and that doesn’t necessarily make them naive. You could always take out a hardship loan off of that IRA should you need it. I had the same thought process as you since I've been maxing out my 401k annually for about five years or so now (I'm 33) but I realized that in a true, bona fide, emergency where I needed hundreds of thousands of dollars, I'd just cash it out (minus the early withdrawal penalties) anyway. The girlfriend needs more independence. She living under a paternalistic stipulation "or furthering herself" rather than setting her own boundaries. He's not your dad. And you're not married. If you break up, how will you support yourself? How will her sister support herself at 19 with no education in an expensive city like Austin? It just seems like her/her sister's financial stability is entirely contingent on this relationship, and while he seems nice enough, this level of codependence imo isn't healthy outside a legal commitment like marriage. (not to say marriage is for everyone, but she literally has no safety net if this relationship goes sour). If she can't afford her half of this lifestyle without him, she basically has no autonomy.

    Can you share details about how you turned your non technical internship into a F/T SWE job @Amazon?? I'm currently doing a bootcamp and will start university in Fall 2023, and I'm trying to get internships that accept non degree students (so I can have a variety of experience before university) but every single place ONLY hires university students for internships. No one hires non college students, and the ones that do, have a lot of competition. ( Like700+ ppl applying, 99% of whom are college students)

    there are a lot of issues here - as a google employee, he is not paid $270k. maybe full package with RSUs, but base + bonus is not that high, esp at 26. also, if you really were making 270k, you can easily afford a house with more than 10% down and a car with almost all cash

  • @saintdurian

    @saintdurian

    2 жыл бұрын

    He is absolutely being paid at least $270k per year, yes with the RSU amount (base+bonus+RSUs you’re given for that year). Maybe depending on when you joined, your RSU grant was lower than what it is now? Or maybe you’re on a lower ladder than him (he sounds like L5 given 3YOE at Amazon). From the video, you can tell he would rather invest his cash (higher returns) than sinking it into a depreciating asset like a car. Assuming he got his house when interest rates were lower, it was smarter of him to put the lowest amount down as possible in order to invest the rest.

  • @BlueCybertruck

    @BlueCybertruck

    2 жыл бұрын

    You are completely right that the 270k includes base, bonus, RSU etc. and stock appreciation. I have super low rates on both my car and my house so putting that cash into the stock market has earned me quite a bit compared to paying down the loan quicker. My threshold for paying down loans is usually somewhere around 4%. Higher than that, I'd rather pay it down. Borrowing money from others for some safe investments at low rates is something I am quite grateful for.

  • @Tagg25

    Why would you want to put down more than 10% if you didn’t need to ? Same thing for the car…..by spreading out payments you can invest the money you save by not paying all up front
