Living Off-Grid on a Tiny House Homestead for 6 Years

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Ariel has been homesteading and living off-grid in a 24'x8' tiny house for 6 years! She grows, forages and preserves as much of her own food as possible, she cuts her own fire wood, carries her own water, generates electricity with solar, and cooks with propane. She is a passionate backpacker and wildlife photographer who works part-time on a ranch in exchange for a place to park her small home, and she also works a variety of jobs to earn money, although her expenses are very low since she isn't paying rent, and since she managed to pay off the tiny house several years ago.
You can follow Ariel and her self-sufficient off-grid homesteading adventures on the Fy Nyth blog and KZread channel here:

We are super inspired by Ariel's simple, disciplined, and sustainable lifestyle and are so happy to have collaborated with her on this video! Ariel provided all of the footage and photos for this video so that we could put it together. Thank you, Ariel :)
Thanks so much for watching!

yep but you still have to get everything up to permit - not cheap! You have a septic system? Can't permit a composting toilet easily. When I went to the most traditional Berber village in Morocco - they lived off humanure compost for thousands of years - to grow their wheat and veggies in the desert.

I'm sure she's a nice lady. I just don't see the point in watching the vid for the 40% of the population making $15 an hour or less. We can't afford fancy building permits for septic systems, etc. A real off grid living? I lived in a cabin just south of Denali Alaska - with bear tracks all over outside - and moose - we had to knock down the frozen mountain of crap in the outhouse (that was freezing of course). I'm just saying - ... you can't build like that even now in Alaska! You need permits - too expensive! The Old Timers just threw up cabins with no insulation, etc. I'm talking 1980 by "old time" - not that long ago.

Actually, not so much respect but freedom. If you raise a dog without leashes, constraints from a young age, his natural inclination is to follow his pack. He gets as much exercise as he needs and wants throughout the day so no need to be excitable and hyper - unlike most dogs that are confined in a house. Her breed needs exercise to be as calm as it is, and she gives it all the freedom to walk when it wants, sleep when it wants. Hard to do when you have a full time job - which she does not have - or unlimited area for a dog to roam and explore - which most of us do not have. I know there are exceptions to this - some breeds are naturally super laid back - but I'm talking 'in general'. But I do know that country dogs without restrictions are the best you can have in terms of quiet demeanor and loyalty.

This entire pandemic, I have been watching KZread videos about these people living in a tiny house into the woods. It makes me happy and help me not think about when this pandemic would come to an end. The only thing I've learned during this pandemic is that people like her living away off grid are the luckiest of all - pandemic hit the cities with many people but never heard of isolated places get infected with whatsoever. The fact that they have live there years prior to the pandemic its normal for them not to see much people around and enjoy their normal life without mask on. I'm currently working abroad for the purpose of me being able to experience how people in the city live compare to where I used to spend my entire younger life in the province and it really is very different. After this pandemic I would surely head off from the city and go back to living in a peaceful, liveable and worthy life in the province/mountain. Oh, I'm 26 btw but I love how she's spending her life.

The more I watch people living in tiny homes the more I am convinced that "witches" were just people who wanted to live alone. Loners, the ones with austerity and independence in their veins. I absolutely adore this life style and hope to be living it soon with my family.

@@trees915 I'm sure lavinder11 did not intend for his use of the word "spinster" to be derogatory. When put into context of the era of the Witches of Salem in the 17th century, that was the standard word used for unmarried women over the usual (for that era) age. I myself was a sworn spinster before getting married at the age of 36 many years ago, and it did not faze me at all to be called as such. On the contrary, I was rather offended when someone tried too hard at being PC, by calling me a bachelor instead! Too much fuss over such trivia.

@@leslierindel4610 Somewhere in the far north U.S. I'd guess. I love her lifestyle except for the location. The last place I'd want to live is somewhere winter lasts 8 months of the year. South Africa has perfect weather. Their idea of hot there made me laugh. There are many locations in the U.S. where it gets over 100 degrees F (37.77 Celsius) for weeks on end. Texas, Arizona, parts of California, etc. all get much hotter than Cape Town.

This is very awesome! Congratulations! I love how beautiful you made everything. It's great to see a woman do all of this herself, and you do it so well. God Bless You!

This lady is truly an inspiration. It's something I have thought about for a long time and now my children are long grown up it's something I am considering seriously. I've been living in Turkey for over 18 years and my typical expat villa is not what I want any more. We have a lovely climate here for most of the year and many fairly remote areas. With all what has been going on these past two year and now watching this I think it may have just given me the kick I need to change my life. Thank you 🙂
