    I think nowadays, you can just ask Google to "remember where I am", I just tried it and it worked for me. Or photograph the name at the end of the street. These are the things you think of later, in the "I wish I had..." category! When we were in Rome, Google remembered everywhere we'd been, even if we only waited outside somewhere for the pedestrian crossing.

    I had a similar experience there, except it was on a hot day, walking around, I was so thirsty and tired. Well, they have working water fountains in some of the neighborhoods where people used to go for their water before the buildings had plumbing. And I filled up a bottle of the coldest, cleanest water I've ever tasted. It might have just been because I was hot and dehydrated though.

    Come on, this is a winter cloudy grey day. Venice has plenty of better light other days. Also the cheap camera that overblows the bright areas makes it look worse. I know Venice quite well and it is beautiful even in the worse day. What makes interesting for many the video is the eye fish perspective and lack of movement compensation that makes the subjective feeling you are walking with him. The video manage to give the impression Venice is dirty and that is far from true. I used to live in the San Vio / Accademia area, until about 20 years ago there was groceries all around; now NOTHING every food shop has been replaced by tourists shops selling glass, masks and other assorted tourist things. I would not like to be one of the people who live there... they have to walk a lot to buy some food. A big "thank you" to all previous city mayors who did nothing to prevent that from happening. They could at least have passed a local law/initiative to subsidize grocery shops; not many of them, only one would have been enough.

You can buy bread and pizza and cakes by Rizzo, in Rialto you can buy all the vegetaibles and fruits you want and all the fish you want. For the meat I don't know because I don't eat meat. I have the luck of living at half an hour train or car distance from Venice and I've been there probably several hundreds of times in my life, for work or leisure or study or to visit an exhibition etc. . I even lived there for days when my daughter resided there. I can assure you that each time I've been there, with any weather, light, time of the day or season, the town is different each time and there is always something to discover, to wonder at and to be enchanted by. The works of art, churches, buildings, sights, smells, hidden corners, secret places are so many, that a lifetime wouldn't be enough to discover. Its history, culture, tradition is so exceptional that there isn't literally a place in the world like it. Every time some friends or guests come from abroad and I take them there for a visit, they are left speechless. If you've never been there, I would suggest to try and go, at least once in your lifetime, to experience its uniqueness. I'm very sad at reading the thoughtless comments written by people who don't really know what they are talking about. As I have already said in a comment, this video has been made on purpose in order to show the worst and under the worst light, perhaps dictated by a negative attitude of the person who made it. Of course in Venice, like in every other places in the world, there are old, dilapidated buildings, parts that are not cared for or restaured. But that is certainly NOT ENOUGH to judge the whole! To restore a house in Venice you need a huge amount of money, more than everywhere else, because of the particular characteristics of the place and sadly many true, many generaions old Venetians are going to leave on the mainland because of the skyrocking prices of houses or maintenance. This is very sad. Not to mention some silly person who wrote that all Italian cities look like the third world!! I wonder where this person has been and what he saw! More than half of the art treasures of the world are in Italy and most of it is well kept and cared for. So, please, don't base your impression of Venice on this ugly video. It's deceiving and tries to distort the truth about the city. Anyway, he had no need to walk all that long and to go that way to find a supermarket from the place where he lived. I can tell you. He just took his time to find the worst places to show on camera. I'm happy he's not in Italy anymore.

There would be little cafes and shops along the little alleys, kept clean and nice. No more, the same thing happpend to most eruo cities after mass immigration in the 90s, now the main shopping areas are a tacky ugly mess of homeless, criminals and cheap shops. In Switzerland they do not stand for this, niether do they in Poland, both nice clean places, restricted and protected so this won't happen. The state of Vermont in the US is heavily protected from over developement. The world does not need more cheap bags and junk, and the rich donr need million dollar plus bags either.. the entire world needs a reset, a morotorium on trade and goods for a few years so the world can come up woith a new plan. if only..

    Loving the comments from tourists. You've been there probably 2 days and think you know or can judge this place, you're dumb. Venezia is beautiful, i'm an American living in Venezia since 2001, moved here from Beverly Hills, California. Walking here at night, close to the canal, the soft lights, it's priceless! I love this city! The guy is living in a pretty crappy apartment, but that's his choice i guess or what he can afford.

    Stupid question from one who travels to Veneto often... but why did you choose Venice over Rome, Toscana, or say, the Amalfi coast?

  • @tonybucks5709

    @tonybucks5709

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@bradthompsonuk2011 good question. If you know Italy, talking about Amalfi coast, well that's Campania region, one of the most corrupted and dangerous regions of Italy. Napoli is nice for a pizza sure, but i wouldn;t want to find myself sick in a hospital there, no thanks. Toscana is nice indeed, i don't have a reson for that, Roma is amazing, yet way too crazy, too much traffic, too many people. Venezia is tiny and i love the canals and getting a coffee in Piazza San Marco early morning while tourists are sleeping. Veneto is stunning as well, but you know, the more south you go, the worse it gets (talking about burocracy, healthcare), not food or beaches.

This city reached it's heyday centuries ago -- all the complaints about the tourists "ruining" it begs the question -- who are they ruining it for? Other tourists?

    emma ess Venice’s population has plummeted over the last 30 years. All retail and dining outlets are being purchased by multi-national corporations, all of the buildings being converted to hotels. Without locals, it’s nothing more than a theme park. It’s the death of the city’s culture that people are concerned about.
