@@CaliforniaGuy88 I was in Big Sur in August for a week (met my sister there). I had great weather clear cool to cold nights (fire in fireplace) and warm days (tee shirt wx) clear days and remember hike mile or two inland and the fog dissipates. But the best weather on the West coast (Central CA & Nor CA) is from late September thru November - early December.

I lived in CA for 40 years and loved every year I lived there. However, last summer of 2019, we decided to leave and settle in the suburbs of Pensacola. Regardless of other comparisons, the main reason we left is the cost of living. It’s fine when you’re working but when retirement comes, it’s time to leave. Florida is much cheaper to live than CA for sure.

Lived in San Diego for 39 years and now in FL and I can say FL is better in almost all areas. The only things CA beats FL is the Mountains and utilities are cheaper. Other than those two things FL beats CA by a landslide. People forget CA is a desert and we had triple digits for most of the summer.

You forgot humidity. You cannot beat California weather

I’m born and raised in California, as much as I love it the cost to rent is too much. I live in the Silicon Valley so it’s about $1,400 a month to rent a master bedroom (which is what most millennials do) then 1bd apartment starts at $2,300. Wish I could stay since I love hiking, the beach, and the weather. Also have most my family in CA. But I’ve visited Florida (Tampa/Orlando/Sarasota) twice now and WOW. The beaches don’t even compare. They’re clear, not dirty, warm. I fell in love with the ocean in Florida. My beach is Santa Cruz here in CA and it’s nasty. The cliffs are beautiful gotta admit, but Florida wins overall in beaches. There’s also hiking in Florida and it’s nice that I won’t have to worry about mountain lion encounters. The people in California are also very selfish and think they’re better if they make a lot of money. California will always have my heart but Florida is definitely on the horizon for my future. It is just crazy to think that people pay that much just for a bedroom in Silicon Valley. The prices there really have gotten out of control. It's really nice to hear how much you like FL, being born and raised in CA. We do have the hiking here, but not the same as hitting the mountains in CA and the nice cool air and blue skies. Actually, we do have mountain lions in FL, they call them panthers, but essentially the same animal. And you have to watch out for poisonous snakes and gators on the trails. I'm with you on the beaches though, FL definitely takes the cake on that . As a native Californian, I am honored that you liked my vid😎

Michael Bordenaro Thanks for the reply! I watch all your videos to stay informed about the life over there until I move, they’re loaded with info! And yes I love my mountains especially Yosemite, Mt. Shasta, Lake Tahoe are breathtaking. Hiking is a big hobby of mine so I’ll have to trade off the mountains sadly but I’ll have to adjust to some kind of hiking trails there or just learn more water sports lol. I’ll definitely love the cheaper cost of living in Florida though as it’s almost unlivable even with what seems to be a good job and it’s highly competitive due to all the visa workers. I’ll make sure to have my annual visits to California to visit family and get away from the summers for a few weeks at least.

which is why I moved to TX... yes, it's a compromise but you can get ahead financially... the TX economy is on fire and the COL is very low, especially in Dallas where I am at. I rent a very nice 1bd apt. in a super nice neighborhood for $1000. I was paying $1600/month for 1bd dump (old dilapidated building) in Orange County. Plus all my other expenses are MUCH lower - auto insurance, utilities, gas etc. I just filled my tank today for $1.75/gallon LOL!

@@sbkpilot1 Huge difference, and being able to get ahead financially is a huge advantage in life that should not be taken lightly. You will reap dividends for this smart decision many times over in the future 👌

I live in the LA area. I can say restaurants are crazy expensive. A burger, fries and a soda for two can easily run you $40. Florida is so much cheaper (outside of miami).

Michael Bordenaro as another comparison, I have to replace my windshield. Safelight wants $359 here and is $249 in the Tampa area. You can plan on paying 30% more on many things in CA vs FL.

Michael Bordenaro it’s due to the fact everything is more here. Rent, wages, gas, utilities, etc. They pass those costs along to the consumer. I was up in the Villages a few months back and had mexican food. An entree was $9 vs same entree here is $18. I would much rather live in FL to save the cash!

No I disagree food in Cali is so much cheaper. I got full rib slab and fries in La Jolla for 10$

I love Florida. I love living in Tampa because we are close to Sarasota with beautiful Siesta Key beach with its turquoise water and white sand. The best beach in Florida, not crowded like Clearwater or Miami Beach. I love the diversity of food in Florida, specially the delicious Cuban and Colombian food in Miami. We also have beautiful springs and Mermaid shows like in Weeki Wachee. Tampa and Saint Augustine are my favorite cities in the entire state. I also love driving the long bridges with view of the Gulf of Mexico on both sides, my favorite driving down to Key West. There’s so much to do in Florida.

I’m living in LA and watching this video on vacation in Miami. I think income is a big factor. I work in tech and can afford to live in a nice area a few min from the beach in LA and I love it. Anyone I know that hates it can’t afford it. That being said LA food is waaaay better. And night life is way more diverse. Don’t get me wrong I love the Miami club scene, but I went out tonight in search of a cool live music whiskey bar and was just finding more bars and clubs that were all exactly the same neon club music vibes. Miami seems to have one vibe while LA is like a different city every few blocks.

I lived in LA for a while and could afford it, but I was constantly finding human feces all over the streets, and it constantly smelled like trash. I think some people are just OK with that, but for me, it was a major disruption to my outdoors experiences.

I am an Ohioian born and raised. I spent all my summers in florida. Moved 20 years ago to California. I have traveled to 45 states and by far California offers the most. The beaches in California are great. There is so much beauty from the hills, the rock formations, ocean life the waves. Florida beaches nice, white sand blue water pretty sunsets tropical feel. Still, California beaches are prettier. Gorgeous sunsets with Water and hills and rocks. I stay in California not because of how expensive it is but how much diversity there is and how much there is to do here. From Northern Ca to Southern Ca. You can go to the mountains and later that day you can drive the ocean. California is truly a beautiful state.

Very well said. Lived in CA for 40 years and FL 8 years and honestly there is no comparison. Some people just can't afford CA and that's fine not everyone can afford Paris but for those who can the experience and diversity is completely worthwhile.

In the late '80s, shortly after college graduation, I was California Dreaming of leaving Massachusetts, and started applying for jobs in LA and San Diego. I turned down a couple of decent jobs to accept a job transfer to Miami in 1990. Same dreams about ten years later after finishing my MBA and, again, declined a couple of decent CA job offers to take a job in the midwest; returning to FL after a couple of years. Almost 30 years in FL now. At this point, CA is of no further interest.

California is 100% more majestic and beautiful. It's best days was the 60 70s 80s and early 90s. One of the problems with Florida is the fact that everything is so old and nobody takes care of their own landscaping and everything looks run down and kind of nasty, but the beaches are beautiful however there's no surf culture and that's everything

If you live in Los Angeles you have to earn 42% more income to have the same quality of life than Tampa.

I think other things that needs to be addressed is that the exotic fruits in South Florida is so much better and tastier. With the abundance of fresh water there, they're easier to grow as well. There will never be a shortage of fresh water in Florida.

lol, exotic fruits will do nothing to protect you or all the others moving there from rising sea level. just curious, what do you think should be done to reduce sea level rise? Nothing I'm sure since most commenting on here are crackpot right wing Trump freaks. Guess what, Florida without serious reductions in greenhouse gasses, will be under water in large parts or unlivable with sunny day flooding happening on a weekly basis. You all act as if nothing is going on with the rising sea level and warming climate and none of you what a single thing done about it.

We moved to central Florida from the West Coast of the USA two years ago. My in-laws live in San Diego which is much better in every way from LA. I do like Florida for the cost of living, the sunshine, the closeness to beaches. However, I don’t love the area we are and wish our company had relocated us to the Tampa area. It’s nice if you live in Miami, Tampa, or Orlando. If you aren’t in any of the major cities, the Florida experience is extremely different. You have NOTHING which isn’t the case in the suburbs or outskirts of California. I miss the food, the mountains, the culture, the Mexican food, and the geographic differences within a California. Florida is one giant hot swamp. Idk...I still lean towards California (not LA).

Nope its not the same and I personally would never live far inland in FL because the biggest draw for me here is the beach. California really is a wonderful place when you can appreciate all of the things you mentioned here and not focus on the negatives👍

Florida is not just Miami 🙂 You can experience real music in places away from Miami Beach. Free concerts/entertainment in lots of venues that are known to the locals 🎶💙 Mountains and different climates would be nice, but can't stand earthquakes or the high cost of living. ☮🤗

Yes you're right, its not. But I have been to a lot of places in FL, like I talk about in my other vids, and I have never come across a place anything close to what the LA strip has to offer in terms of the music scene. At best here in FL, you stumble across an amateur band playing at a local bar it's just meh. Even that is not very common

Sure it’s not like LA but I don’t think that makes Florida’s music scene meh entirely. Especially not in Miami since it has its share of mainstream artists.

I think everyone commenting on the affordability of Miami are those that already live in an expensive area. Miami wages are terrible and everything is crazy expensive (for Miami wages). Yes we have beaches and nightlife but aside from that, there’s not much else. California seems to have a variety of nature activities: hiking, the beach and in winter you can see snow all in the same state. You can drive from key west all the way to the boarder of Florida and Georgia and the landscape is pretty much the same. You cannot surf because our beaches don’t really have waves. Skiing/wakeboarding can be scary if you’re attempting to do that in lakes because of the alligators. I live in Miami since I was 9 and while I have had great experiences here, California seems to have more diversity in people/vibes. You cannot go anywhere in Miami without reggaeton playing. If youre into other music, good luck!

I've been in California all my life 36 years...and to me it's completely gone down hill. It's depressing... All these high taxes we pay and everywhere you look you see tents. Not to mention a lot of jobs don't pay enough and the rent is crazy. I'm considering moving out of state because I don't like living like this. And we have all these trees that they don't manage at all.. so the fires has gotten completely out of control. Ughhh

I lived in SoCal for 12 years, L.A., Palm Springs, San Diego, I loved it. In Florida, I was able to buy an affordable house near the beach, only 10-minutes away on a bike. In California, it would cost 750k - 1,000,000 bucks.

Supply and demand. But once you are able to purchase your first home its a great nest egg for the future. FL homes are cheaper but with many large insurance companies leaving the state not so much any more.

My family moved from East coast to California 43 years ago. California is paradise compared to East coast. This state is overpopulated because the weather is ideal. We have basically two seasons Summer and Fall. California has lots of retirees that can live here comfortably. What people see on the news about California is not about California people those people were not raised in California. I grew up in California and we never had such violence years ago as I see now. California takes care of their people. The homeless are out there because their life took a bad turn that left them penny less. Drugs played a big part in their lives along with family abuse. I wouldn't live anywhere else but California. The coast is beautiful and the mountains are breathe taking. Florida is wet and flat. I have been there to Fort Lauderdale and Miami. I had the worst time. I couldn't stop sweating it was hotter than hot🔥 and my feet and hands were swollen from humidity. I couldn't wait to to home to California. As soon as I got off the plane to California I felt the cooler temps and my hands and feet returned to normal I was home again! 😄 I read Florida is sinking into the Atlantic ocean. I'll take California over Florida anytime.

Yes California is a very special place, nowhere else on earth like it as far as I'm concerned. And not everyone can take the heat here in FL lol. I have a made a couple videos addressing that. Just hope CA can start repairing their giant problems that are plaguing the state. I always enjoy those cool temps once I land in CA too 😀

I doubt many retirees would concur that CA is a comfortable place to retire. The entire Southeast, AZ and NV are getting tons more retirees. Other than those who owned their CA home for years, and can now downsize by cashing out of all their real estate equity, or were a high tech millionaire from Silicon Valley, most retirees have to flee the state (or at least any coastal region), or live a greatly reduced quality of life. The homeless problem is a direct result of bad policy and taking care of undocumented aliens, instead of their own citizens. It is a shame and a disgrace, and now the same bad policy is spreading to Portland and Seattle, and turning their formerly-liveable cities into shantytown messes like SF and LA,

1. Not sure what part CA you live but in L.A, violence has always been around and I've been here since the 90s. Same goes for certain areas in OC and beyond. 2. If they truly took care of their people, the homeless mess wouldn't be as bad as it is. Have you been to skid row in Downtown LA? Its been there for many many years. A place like that shouldn't exist in a supposedly thriving state like CA. They don't care about homelessness. And there are host of other problems here. This state is a mess and the politicians has a big part in that.

@@js83 Not sure if your comment was directed to me, but I lived in CA for 13 years (left in Oct 1988), and lived all over - SF, LA, Newport, SD (La Jolla),and Santa Barbara. CA never had the problems it has today, but then it WAS a red state (9 of 10 presidential elections from 1952-1988, and a GOP gov, Deukmejian). The homelessness along with bad governance has made CA very unlivable, despite its scenic beauty and nearly perfect climate. Invite illegal immigrants, tax the daylights out of producers, have anti-business po,icies, andcelect some of the worst human beings to represent you in Sacto and DC, and this is what you get. I hope it can be saved from its gross stupidity, but I am not sure. Many of thecproductive are just leaving. Any big city will have some problems, but most in CA are self-inflicted.

Was born and raised in SD just moved 5 years ago. Was right off Pomerado and Ted Williams. In FL now and love it. Never thought a State could beat our beaches in CA but I have to say FL has crushed it! Plus the natural springs here are insane!

Adventures with the Ethington's I still live in San Diego (almost 30 years now), but grew up in Atlanta. Have family inTampa. I do love Florida, especially their beaches and the warm water. California has dramatic coastline, but the warm water and soft sand of the Florida beaches cannot be beat!

@@Jeannified Tampa is a beautiful city. Love Clearwater Beach just did a video on that one not to long ago. Love how that area has so many small Islands you can Kayak to and definitely love we can enjoy beaches and the Springs Year round in FL but..... Man we do miss SD. Family and friends still there and anyone who has lived in SD understands and says they miss the same thing first! THE FOOD! Have not been to another State that even comes close to the food scene in SD especially real ethnic food. What we would give for a real taco shop here! Was so funny before we left TX last year the coolest family moved there and opened up their first Taco Shop and were from Chula Vista. They now have 5 and continue killing it. People don't understand unless they have had it! Hoping to get back to SD next year.

Adventures with the Ethington's I hear ya. We went to San Clemente recently, and visited Pedro’s Tacos, an Orange County favorite. The Mexican food was so expensive and the carne asada burritos were smaller than in San Diego, and the filling tasted like hamburger helper. The Mexican food was nothing like what we have inSanDiego. You are right. We are definitely spoiled here with good Taco shops! Las Quattro Milpas is my favorite Mexican place here in San Diego (Bario Logan). We live down by the border between the 805 and 905 freeway. Glad the Chula Vista family is doing well with their Mexican food business in Texas!

I’ve been watching your channel for a few months now as I contemplate a relocation from GA to FL. I lived in Los Angeles from 2011-2014 after living 10 years in Phoenix. Totally agree with everything you mentioned here. Having grown up in the Savannah GA area, my FL experiences have been limited to beach vacations and golf outings. I can work remotely now and trying to determine what coastal area I want to relocate to now that I have the work flexibility.

As someone who lived 45 years in Southern California And moved to Florida 4 years ago I agree with most of what you are saying. I will say the problem with the homeless in LA/SF many of the cities there tolerate the homeless camps. If you go to Beverly Hills, Irvine, Temecula etc, you won’t see this. Likewise Florida law enforcement does not tolerate tents on sidewalks. Also, beaches are cold in California as the ocean water because of the Alaskan current. Florida beaches are far better. And north of Miami (Vero and farther north) the summer water temps are cooler.

Yes the homeless thing is a huge problem and it is probably an enforcement and toleration issue like you said. That cold water in CA doest bother me so much in the summer beach months, but yes FL in general is just nicer to go to the beach and not be freezing 😊

I've lived in Clearwater FL but in Florida it's so hot in the summer and there's a lot of bugs that you keep getting bit by them. And I'm originally from CA and everyone has there own views, i love the vibes here in socal and everyone i met around here are friendly. I've had too many toxic people in Florida. The weather here is amazing and we have mountains and hills.

Just moved from Orange County CA. Already miss mountains and quality shopping. Stores around here look like going out of business. And not very many concert venues. I live in Tampa Bay Area. Happy to see here in FL that you can be patriot of the USA and not get beaten up for that. 👍🏻😁 Definitely haven’t seen very many homeless people. And problem isn’t only about providing them with homes. Many of them don’t care for that. Beaches for sure much nicer here in FL! And these amazing thunderstorms! Love it. There is no perfect place, but I think nature wise CA and FL are both beautiful. 🌞🌴🌺

We actually had a few days last week here that was very humid.....98 degrees felt like 110 officially. Tell me, how do you find it coming from the same area as myself. GoldenGuardian Hello! I have to admit that it will take to get used to humidity and such a warm weather. It’s definitely easier closer to coastline. There are always some breeze. And of course bugs. I love all kinds of creatures, but these little “no see ums” are nasty. When they bite you, Itches for a week or more. Just the fact that you can’t go out for a walk any time you want because of weather can change by hour. I am here only two months, so I have to learn myself a lot. I didn’t think that I will miss CA this much. Only nature and climate wise. I think that would be good to come over and test if you like FL for a week or two. For me as a outdoor person, I am feeling a bit limited at this hot time of year. 😁🌴

You are 100% correct about the freedom of being patriotic in Florida. I live in Glendale, CA and am getting the hell out of CA for Jupiter, FL next year. The overwhelming homeless population are disgusting, I mean it will turn your stomach and that is without catching a whiff of urine and other bodily spillages. I can't believe the Board of Health let's this go but if I throw a napkin out of my car window I will get a $1000 littering ticket. When my daughter first moved to Irvine I loved it. After a few visits and getting to know Irvine and surrounding areas, I said "Oh hell no!"

I believe one thing that separates CA from FL, is the career opportunities. People come to CA to start their careers and go to FL when they're finish.

That's changing. TX is gaining momentum on the job front now since businesses are moving out of CA due to onerous regulations. Even Bay area firms will ultimately move out. The world is becoming more global now and CA no longer has that leverage that it once had due to weather. If remote work picks up CA will truly be screwed.

@@sbkpilot1 Florida is not Texas. Yes Texas is doing a good job at attracting companies. However, California is good at creating them. You don’t see the Governor of California going to other states offering money and tax breaks to companies to come to California, unlike Texas.

@@tesiemarie8942 FL has 2nd oldest population (Maine), while CA is 44th, so more young people overall, but if you avoid the heavy retirement areas, there are plenty of young people, and most are fit & attractive, too.

From Texas and if I wanted to move to a different state, Florida would be my new home tbh

@@CaliforniaGuy88 true but california is very diverse. There's also the valley and they don't have earthquakes or nothing actually . But you can still drive an hour or 2 and enjoy places like Yosemite or a major city

My perspective: I live in California (San Francisco bay area), but I also have a 2nd home in Florida (St. Pete -- gorgeous city). I've lived in California my entire life (55+ years), but I started spending the winter months in Florida a few years ago. Both Florida and California are wonderful places to live, but as I get older, I'm beginning to enjoy Florida more. If it wasn't for the very hot, humid summers, Florida would easily beat California for quality of life. Sure, in CA, the activities and amenities are fantastic, but the cost of living here is oppressive. An obvious advantage for CA if you're into winter sports (I am): CA is a snow skiers paradise. Many fantastic ski resorts within driving distance. Obviously, snow skiing isn't something you can do in Florida. So, there are tradeoffs. Beaches in California: around here, the water is too cold. Right now, the water temp at Ocean Beach (San Francisco) is only 62F. That's too cold to be in for any length of time without a wet suit. Yes, the water is a little warmer in southern California, but you can't beat the beaches in Florida. Food diversity and cost: I really don't notice a difference. Any cuisine I can get in CA I can also find in FL -- and vice-versa. The restaurants, in my opinion, are comparably priced in both states. I'll assert that it's easier to get a reservation at a high-end restaurant in Florida than California (not that I eat at those very often). And I know this is just my opinion, but people seem to be friendlier in Florida.

I have lived in both states....I much prefer Northern California for its incomparable beauty. But we are here now. I want to return to CA but we cannot afford it there....housing is astronomical on the coast and that is where I want to be.

Michael ... I’m originally from suburban Chicago. My Mom (88 yrs old) has said on several occasions ... “don’t even think about coming back to Chicago or Illinois for the matter to live. It’s really messed up! My sister mentioned that once Mom is no longer with us, my brother and his wife will probably leave a Illinois as well. To just add to the subject matter here ... I think nowhere is perfect. Perfect is what you make it to be in your attitude and heart. Also I agree with the lack of English in Miami. Hell, I recently got off an American Airlines flight at MIA and asked an agent a question and that agent refused to speak English. Perhaps she shouldn’t be working for American Airlines. Nice city for a weekend getaway but I certainly wouldn’t live there. I’d live up in Ft. Lauderdale which is much much nicer than Miami, less traffic, and English is spoken. You’re right about Florida ... it has two seasons hot and HOTTER. 🙄

Yeah I guess that is sort of that midwest IL mentality. But yes, no where perfect. The key I think is to just choose somewhere to live that is nice for you, and adapt to the rest. At least that is better than not ever making a change (if you want change). Anyway, I like Ft Lauderdale too, it is a little more chill than Miami for sure and English lol!

California native (resident of LA) here, I relocated to TX a month ago... things that I really miss - the weather of course, the geography - mountains , beach, desert all in close proximity makes it a very unique ecosystem in the entire US.. CA beaches aren't as nice as FL but they're fairly good, great consumer protection laws (shady businesses like health insurance companies can't screw you over as easily), good public no smoking laws, great flight deals out of LAX. Things that I DO NOT miss - insane taxes, insane...no... ABSURD cost of living, homelessness (as you described) - there are transients even in some nicer neighborhoods - it's a huge issue, the economy isn't as great as it seems in areas outside of the Bay Area - for example, I actually got a higher paying job in TX and I am in tech!! For now I wasn't willing to pay the premium for what I was getting but some day I may return... I just miss the magnificent beauty of California, my take is it's the most diverse and beautiful states in the Union geographically even if there are major problems in other areas.

I really enjoyed your video and you brought up a lot of good points. But I need to address your issue with our homeless population which is a direct result of our leftist government policies. I’m 3rd generation Southern Californian, my grand parents immigrated here in the 1930’s. And it’s tearing me up that I’m considering leaving this beautiful state. I know a lot about the homeless who I refer to as Vagrants. We do have homeless who may live in their cars while they’re struggling to better their situation, but those tent cities that have recently popped up are a different matter. My information comes from my personal contact with them as a Firefighter Paramedic with the City of Los Angeles. The first point to understand is that a house will not fix their problem. It a a drug and alcohol abuse problem along with a small percentage of those with true Mental health issues. Most of these people refuse to go to homeless shelters because they value their personal freedoms above all else. Secondly, it’s the liberal state policies here that attract these people to California. I usually ask them while transporting them to the hospital where they are from. 90% are here recently from out of state. It’s the many free social programs and support that brings them to California. The state is tolerant and allows them to set up these camps. Conservative states don’t. Everything is tolerated, hyperdermic needles are passed out for their drug usage. They shit all over the sidewalk. I watched a cop get laughed at after asking a man to stop crapping on the sidewalk. It’s even a known fact that other municipalities have been caught giving them one way tickets to LA as a way of getting rid of their problems. The fact is that the money spent on the homeless problem just attracts more homeless to come here and the problem only gets worst. And this is something you just won’t hear from the media. I hope Florida doesn’t make this same mistake.

Thank you James your story is also very intriguing coming from a first responder they are in California. First of all thank you for your service that is a very tough job. Secondly I think you are right on the money when it comes to the policies that allow the homelessness to continue in such a way. California is the only place I’ve ever been where I’ve seen so much homeless on the street anywhere in the United States. And it is very sad and disheartening. I hope the state will wake up and see comments like yours on videos like this in hopes to rectify the situation someday

Totally agree with you. I’ve lived in CA (West LA) which is a very nice area, however, the amount of homeless you see everywhere you go, it’s not good. I’m planning to move out of CA due to high taxes, high home prices, crime is growing, and they’re talking about more taxes. However, I do love the state. You can go from the desert, to the ,mountains, to the beach, to the city, all in the same day or a weekend, but even that is no longer worth it. I do love the variety of restaurants. You can eat food from all over the world, I’m a foodie, so I love that. And the different activities, places to go, it you have to make good money, because if you want to do all of this, trust me it is very expensive. With that being said, I’m still moving out of CA...

Fantastic video. Very informative. Thank you! I grew up in St Pete Florida but have lived in Los Angeles since 1988. I love Florida and the less expensive housing options but I prefer the climate in California. The homeless situation is out of control in California. Here is a little known crazy LA fact. It is illegal to sleep in your car on a residential street in LA but it is perfectly legal to pitch a tent beside the sidewalk! While Los Angles real estate is insanely expensive, if you venture an hour away to the high desert towns of Palmdale and Lancaster you can find affordable housing. A two hour drive from Los Angeles will take you to the upscale town of Palm Springs where compared to LA the housing is much less expensive. I could easily live in Fort Lauderdale but for now LA is for me. Again, thanks for this great video.

So as someone who moved to Florida from Connecticut, a lot of things suprised me. 1.) it’s really not that Hot and Humid all the time, it’s basically a flipped winter up north, meaning 3-4 months it’s humid then most of the year it’s 70-80 degrees sunny and breezy, and even down to the 50 and 60s in December. I don’t know why people complain all the time it’s really not bad. 2.) I live in Pinellas County but weather is REALLY predictable so for me safer, in Connecticut it would be hailing for one second then snowing the next hour. Weather up north is SO CRAZY! I don’t get why people warn me about Florida weather, it’s so nice. Last one is I’ve never seen a wild gator and I’ve been here 3 years. I hike a lot and just have never seen one, if I did you just treat it like you would see a coyote or any way more dangerous animals that live up north!

I would say you might be one of the lucky few who just doesn't feel bothered by extreme heat or humidity. And that is coming from someone who has lived here for 12+ years. Also, as of me writing this comment, it is currently 102 degrees in Miami Beach, and has been around that temp daily for months now. That is with the heat index factored in, so I would say that is pretty hot! But I will still take that over the harsh winters from back in IL. I havent had issues with the wildlife here either, but I also don't live on the edge of a pond or the everglades to run into many gators.

I believe you gave an honest review of both states , I’m a lifelong California resident and i am evaluating the pros n cons of both states , the biggest pros of Florida are def No state taxes , that’s huge ! I did my best to give a good review. I love both, but I can imagine the homeless encampments and the crushing taxes getting old for you. And yes, I really miss the clubs in LA, so cool they have music going every night from real bands. Not sure if thats the case anymore since covid.

When it comes restaurant/food & dining New York hands down #1! I can walk in a 5 star Michelin restaurant in 5 mins or pick up a box of delicious Halal food off a street vendor for $9! During restaurant week $49 fixed 3 course meal in high-end restaurants. It is the happiest week entire year for me :)

Grew in the dirty south and move to SF Bay Area, Cali in the 80’s after HS. Got a job, married, kids. Houses. Living the dream. Fortunate to buy houses in 90’s and so on rental. Yes The weather is nice it will be cool one week around 70’s and then hot spell 90’s to 100’s. Not as humid as in Florida where I spent my summer vacation on Gulf coast growing up. Yes Florida’s beach are nice, blue, clear and warm. Nice to take a dip on a hot day. Bay Area it’s not as nice. Ok and cold. You could only dip your feet in it unless you have a wet suit like the surfers. As you mentioned I could head up to mountain 2-3 hr drive to snow in the winter months. I can’t recall Florida having mountains. SF Bay Area is expensive Southern California as well any others cities comes to housing. Yes we pay a lot of taxes. Unlike Florida from what I hear. We get paid more here if your in tech, hospitals sector. If you’re job doesn’t pay to survive in California costs. Florida would be the place. Not sure what industry Florida has. The diversity in California is a plus especially in SF Bay Area. Just seeing Bi-Racial marriage. Is common. Yes you mentioned restaurant. To try different ethnic food is a plus in California especially SF And Southern California. I would move to Florida for my retirement years. Sell off my house buy house in a golf course community which Florida has a lot of. If only I could convince my wife. The saying “Happy wife Happy life”

Sounds like you have really embraced the California lifestyle which I really love to hear. I do the same wen I am there visiting and it is why I love it very much there. Also timing was on your side for sure buying a house in the 90's and having a good job etc. Sometimes being in the right place at the right time can be a nice bonus in life. Really nice to hear your story and so refreshing to hear from someone who has truly enjoyed living in CA all these years. If you do come to FL, let me know! Curious to know if you make the move ;)

Thank you for a great video. I have lived in Southern California my whole life. I love it, and it's worth every bit of money I make as a teacher. LOl. Try the San Diego beaches, Laguna, San Clemente or Crystal Cove in Newport. Also, make sure to ask the locals about the best little Mexican food places. There are many craft breweries around, and I definitely recommend seeking them out. There is traffic, but you learn the back ways and the best time to drive. I am lucky that I have always worked in the same city I live in. That would be a good tip for anyone thinking of moving to California.

When you are back in California in summer, make a trip to Catalina Island. It’s an hour of sailing from Long Beach on a very cool public ferry. The island is beautiful, with clean beaches and clear comfortable water temperature( in summer) . You are going to love it!

Been in CA for 21 years ... it’s horrible. Insane taxes, insane housing prices, insane homeless, insane laws, insane traffic. It does have world class universities. Amazing companies tend to center themselves next to the constant supply of epic talent from the schools. But don’t come to CA to live. And if you can, get out. Now that remote work is more acceptable, CA is only going to get worse because of all the money that will leave the state.

I was born in Palm Beach FL and moved to California lived there 5 years I moved back to good old home of Florida I paid 1450 for a studio apartment in Pomona California I came home not to palm beach county but to okeechobee county I paid 70000 for a 2/2 I own no mortgage Californians would pay top money to have a 2/2 45 minutes to the beach and the water is way warmer here don't compare all of Florida to Miami

California is overpopulated. Even if everyone paid to house the homeless, there is no space to build homes. The home prices are way too high as well so even paying for homeless would make the average person go bankrupt. They are struggling to pay their own rent

The thing is this. Being in the real estate business, I know how development works and there are always new developments happening, even in CA. But why would anyone want to give the little bit of space left to the homeless, is also what it comes down to. Especially when you are talking prime real estate in LA or SF. But they collect so much in taxes already, I think the state could make it work, but the politics involved in making this happen, will prevent it.

@@MichaelBordenaro the only way that would is if they took a bankrupt city like Victorville or beyond and offered a buyout for the residents there. Then build housing for the homeless. In my opinion, nothing will tackle the homelessness problem in California until we tackle drug addiction. Which is why the majority are homeless in the first place. When the cops don't even bat an eye and someone shooting up in a public walkway and it's a misdemeanor to be caught with meth that is where the problem is tackled. Just like illegal immigration. California has made this place a sanctuary state for drug addicts.

@@greennbean Drugs is definitely an issue. I saw a recent news clip of a new shelter in venice beach that is only 40% occupied because homeless would rather be on the street where there is no curfew, and no drug ban. Now that they know for certain its not just a lack of somewhere to go, the govt need to toughen up and start giving ultimatums to people doing this who don't want help tell them they either need to leave on their own and if they dont, they will forcefully remove them to a new location, where ever they decide is a good choice and less harmful to the public

@@MichaelBordenaro yes it is just a bad situation. They cant go through and kick all of them out because it doesn't help the one's who are actually looking to change. But the ones who just want to be close to the busy parts of the city to panhandle and buy drugs are just destroying everything. I've seen myself poop on the roads. People peeing anywhere they want to. It's just disgusting and nobody is doing anything to help with the issue. The only solution I see is to just say sorry and kick all of them out. Make doing hard drugs a felony again or at least make it to where you have to go to rehab and stay clean or accept a felony.

I think the big tech hub in California makes some offers, perks and jobs more attractive in California. Add to that, relative ease access to Las Vegas, Grand Canyon give it an edge in this respect.

I lived in los Angeles for 13 years and other places in California for 30 years and while yes there's a lot to do the "free"stuff you mentioned ends up costing a small fortune just in parking costs. Parking to go to the "free" to enter whiskey on sunset can cost 20 dollars just to park the car.

I didnt have that issue with parking, but I only parked in city lots or metered parking. So that was about $2/hr I think. The cost is double that $4/hr here in MB if you don't live here 👍 Also, I imagine if you lived close enough in hollywood, you could just walk

There are some improvements in public transportation, but those in LA love their cars, so parking becomes a real hassle and added expense. I loved Santa Monica and Pasadena where you could walk places, but most of the region is car-dependent.

I like both places, but I feel closer to FL, I enjoy your videos , it is like me traveling . Thanks for the videos

I love your videos Michael. I learn so much. Everywhere in Florida I have been seems to play music like you described and at very high volume that goes right through my nerves. It's very annoying how there are people that expect you to bow down to the Spanish language, when English is the main language. But I still prefer Florida over California and even my home state of Massachusetts. Definitely, love the warm weather and less fluctuation in temperature.

Michael, you might need to explain to us northern folks that California water is cold relative to the southern US. I was in San Diego Sept of 2018 and was in the water and Blacks Beach and Mission Beach every day. I measured the water myself and it was 73F. That is not cold compared to New England or some of the Great Lakes. And the locals told me it is in the low 70's there pretty much from mid July to end of September. And the water was very blue and clear at Mission Beach and Blacks Beach. Also amazing body surfing which doesn't exist in Florida much.

Yes, San Diego County water is much warmer than NorCal and Northern East Coast. 71-75 is perfect to cool you off without the bathtub-like conditions of Florida and the humidity and bugs. Body surfing in San Diego is the best! ....no comparison to the flat ankle high waves of Florida. SoCal is more expensive for a reason.... Economics do not lie.

To be fair, as you get further away from the equator, the ocean water gets colder. You can imagine the oceans in Hawaii are not as cold as the Arctic Ocean.

I live in Fort Lauderdale. We did Miami spice yesterday. The service was nice but even with the special pricing, they threw in extra fees and no sides. It ended up being $40.00 more for our meal. Needless to say, I won’t be doing Miami Spice again. We’ve done Miami spice 3 times now. I could live without the fanciness because the food usually isn’t worth it lol! The microclimate aspect of California is very nice. It’s funny you say when you go in the water in south Florida is warm and it’s 100 degrees out already- too funny! It’s very true!

Yeah every time I have had a Miami Spice meal it feels like a rip off. Those meals are specifically designed to look like a deal, but they really aren't and then afterwards, I wish I would have just ordered something regular from the menu. The microclimates are one of the coolest things for sure! Oh yeah, the water feels like that right now😄

There's places here in socal where they only speak Spanish, like parts of Santa Ana and even Anaheim. Growing up in the southwest you learn some Spanish just from being around lol. Useful to know for Florida too

I definitely believe they do have pockets there of only Spanish same here in Miami. I think the biggest difference is here it’s the norm in there it’s not. I’ll bet you do learn growing up there ha ha. I actually wish I learned growing up as it would make life much easier for me now LOL

Lived in California almost my entire life, but I'm thinking of moving to Florida. Been there only once to visit the parks in Orlando, but I've seen so many videos here on KZread about Florida, man, it's making me wanting to move there so bad. Also, have watched many TV Shows and movies based in Florida that has built a nostalgic feeling for me(it's hard to explain it, it's like I've lived there before but I haven't). The state is just pulling me in, and I think in a few years, I will make the move.

Agree, my 19 yr old daughter and I went to lunch here in Sonoma County two days ago. No booze just food and ice tea (her, I had water). it was $60.00 with tip for pasta, no appetizers, no soups/salads sides or extra's. Simply lunch.

You have to move to Fresno to find homes for 300,000 or less in California. From what I can tell Ventura is the cheapest beach housing south of Eureka although Marina by Monterey and Oceanside by San Diego are the most affordable. Check out Marina Del Rey the next time you visit Venice and Santa Monica. I attended Venice high school so I know the areas you’re discussing but I’ve only lived in Cape Canaveral, Jacksonville, Orlando and St Augustine but I still haven’t been to Miami. I lived in Monterey and it’s great in the summer on rare days California hits 100 degrees in July while Monterey is 75 degrees the only other place that cool is Eureka area towards Oregon. But the water temps north of Los Angeles are freezing. I haven’t been to South beach but I’d say women in Los Angeles are more attractive than women in central and north Florida. I don’t go to Gainesville so maybe there’s exceptions? My ex wife knew Bill Maher, she didn’t think well of him.

Yep the housing costs in CA are pretty insane in most cities. I havent been to Fresno, but have been to San Diego and Monterrey. I enjoy both quite a bit. I actually stayed in Marina Del Rey a couple years ago, right across from the Marina! And we were walking distance to Venice Beach, so we would just take a walk down there each day 👌I still prefer California weather over FL anyday, but I prefer the beaches here in FL. Tough trade off. I never met Bill, but I do like his show! But who knows, you have to really know people cant go by a tv personality

@@MichaelBordenaro don’t bother visiting Fresno the weather is awful. Summers are 100 degrees daily there’s no humidity but it’s like Arizona. The only good thing is it’s a half hour drive from Yosemite National Park. But it’s the awful parts of California where median house prices are affordable. Bakersfield is another awful location with cheap houses north of Los Angeles. My research indicates Ventura by Malibu is the most affordable house prices in the LA area. The main problem which you know from staying in LA and San Francisco is traffic. Most people limit themselves to a 5 mile radius for restaurants etc. and don’t explore so they can avoid traffic but I prefer to find new places so I ride a motorcycle so I can sneak thru traffic where lane splitting is legal in California and parking for motorcycles is easy but that doesn’t work if you’re married or with kids. Other people commute from 2 or even 3 hours away and sleep in hotels M-F working in Silicon Valley for example then go home on weekends. Anyway, I agree with you on testing the area first if you’re not single and have nothing to lose

@@beautyRest1 Earthquakes in California aren't as bad as Hollywood Movies make them seem to be. Most Earthquakes in CA are very small, barely noticable and don't do very much damage at all. But when I visited Florida I saw so much leftover devastation from past Hurricanes. That being said, even though the Earthquakes in CA aren't that big of a deal, everything else sucks in the state like Wildfires, which are more common than Earthquakes.

1. They don't write songs about Florida 2. California has Charlie's Angles. Florida has the Golden Girls. 3. The state song of Florida is "The old folks at home" 4. Florida is a humungous Nursing home... 5. You get what you pay for...Florida is great for sitting quietly in the A/C....

Really appreciate a non- biased view of 2 awesome states. I’ve lived in Both states; years ago as well as recently. Moved from California desert city to Florida East coast city, near you then up the coast a bit. Timing is crucial. Affordability, season, do you have a support network of family, friends, community, what’s your native language, what is the overall culture of the area, are there higher education opportunities, art, music, is it pet friendly, is there good medical care, are you part of a couple, are you single, what are your interest; both personal and professional,All of these factor in. I’m in 1 of these states now and planning to go back to live full time in one of them and keep the other one for a ‘ hey that’s a nice place to visit’ as the other. The timing was just not right for me living in one of them right now ✌️🏝🏖

@@the_dog_goddess As of right now, I would stay in FL, and visit CA. Its much cheaper to live here and therefore makes it easier to get away and visit CA without breaking the bank. But if I did move to CA, San Diego would be my first choice

Hi Michael, I have lived in Southern California about 40 minutes from the ocean for 26 years and have spent a total of six weeks in Florida over two visits touring around most of the state. I have gone as far north in CA as the Napa Valley and south to San Diego and out east over to NV and AZ. I agree with all you say. The music scene is definitely good here although the free thing is fast disappearing along with the big portions in the restaurants at reasonable prices. It is true that we have a great variety of climate and scenery to choose from, but now unfortunately in REALITY there is NO choice because the average person cannot afford to live anywhere as long as there is a CA in the address. You spoke of the CA income tax. This is something you may not have heard of yet as it was only announced about a week ago. If you have 15 million dollars our government here plans to tax you for 10 years if you leave CA to live in another state. I can only assume this is in response to all the rich people already leaving CA. It will not affect me, lol, but who knows when they will apply this exit tax to everyone? Also the coastline above Ventura gets covered in natural oil each summer, making going to beach unpleasant although the scenery around Carpenteria and Santa Barbara is truly beautiful. But once you get globs of oil all over your feet....and I mean globs.....it kinda puts you off.......You did a great job on the video as usual.....keep them coming!

I hope they don't take away the free music, that is one of my favorite parts and the food😯 But you're right I should've phrased that you can live anywhere in California as long as your wallet is limitless LOL. I have heard of this new California exit tax and it sounds pretty nuts. The only part I agree with is if you came to California broke and made a fortune there and are now leaving then you deserve to pay your dues. But that's it. I relate that to foreigners coming to the United States broke and then they turn around and send all of their money to their home country and just bleed this country dry. I got lucky in Santa Barbera and Carpenteria. Beautiful area and never got any oil👌 So glad you liked this video, I really enjoyed making it and was nice to go back and see all the fun times we had in CA. I really look forward to coming back and visiting again

@@MichaelBordenaro I have visited the Santa Barbara area many times and never saw oil/tar, but it was usually in winter or spring. Then I went in a very hot September and had the bad experience. I told a local who told me that yes that was normal in the hot weather. It did not seem to bother her much. I guess she was used to it. But I hated it and also the beach and ocean had an oily smell. It pissed me off to be honest as my Golden Retriever got it all over his hairy feet too and they had the water turned off in the bathrooms due to the drought....what a nightmare, lol....It took us two hours to get cleaned up and we could not get back in the car with the oil all over us. Our skin was rubbed raw as well as the poor dog's feet Luckily I had some nail polish remover in the car which helped! Santa Barbara is beautiful and the scenery is amazing. Next time you visit there go up into the mountains behind to Cold Spring Tavern. Google it.....it is a fantastic place to go for a drink and a meal. Also Ojai, but in the summer it will sizzle!. I have really enjoyed my time in Southern California, but it is time to go.

@@MacGregorLassie Santa Barbara is probably the single most beautiful place in the whole USA (been to all 50 states). Cold Spring Tavern is nice, and Ojai beautiful (I lived in Montecito for 2 years), and I enjoyed Carpinteria, too. The biggest drawback was not much of a middle class there - lots of rich folks and young college age+, who worked in the hospitality industry, and played volleyball on the beach, but could never buy a house or condo. Having a drink or meal at the Four Season's Biltmore or the El Encanto are truly memorable!

@@jdhjimbo Good morning. Thanks for your reply. I agree with all you said and as you also said in another post, CA has deteriorated so much with all the other "stuff" going on. However, we will be heading to FL later this year to take our chances on a new adventure.

Dude I have a 24 year history of living in California ending in the year 2000. I have 20 years here in Florida this year and could never afford to live in California which has a much lower quality of life, much higher housing cost, and a ton of obnoxious A-holes who call themselves "locals"

Yep its crazy the contrast I see in the comments on this vid. People like yourself are done with CA and others saying how they would never leave and hate FL. I guess we all just have different experiences with both states

@David Wang Why would you call someone a loser who you do not know? Everybody is free to choose what they prefer. I know the Left ideology (that dominates CA), does not believe in tolerance or entertaining differing viewpoints, but many of us are happy to allow people the freedom to live where they want, without disparaging them or their choice.

@David Wang I say this as a liberal I enjoy the cost of living in Florida and FL is diverse culturally just like CA. We may not have the mountains and as many Celebrities but we have way more beaches , Palm trees , diverse neighborhoods, the cheapest luxury homes and single family homes in CA is the most Expensive we have for ours. FL if you subtract lack of mountains and Hollywood celebrities is basically a California Discount and that is why people are moving here

Glad to hear you had great times in CA. Yes, CA has little bit of everything and Southern, Bay Area and Northern CA are quite different. Enjoyed CA living for multiple decades and now can't wait to get out of here as soon as kids are out of the house. I will definitely return to CA as a tourist, not a resident. BTW, what is wrong with cornfield in IL, LOL. I have attended schools in Chicago many many years ago. Miss my buddies. Never been to FL and I guess I need Spanish lessons before Japanese. Cheers!

Yes I have some of the best memories of my life in California. Both northern and southern. I have been around the state quite a bit actually and I look forward to my next visit. The cornfields in IL get pretty old after 20 years driving by them, and staring at them from your backyard lol. Yes, I would brush up on that spanish before coming to FL 😉

I grew up in Orange County California. I live in Lakewood California, Long Beach California, Riverside California, Fountain Valley California I've been up the California coast from Tijuana all the way up to Washington. I live in Las Vegas now. Have a four-bedroom house and I live alone I and just like 320 miles from Huntington Beach California I'm at 45 minute plane ride now they just has the Raiders and we're going to get a baseball team and soccer team and understand they're building the Pacific Ocean here. They're building an underground ocean transport and in 15 years we're going to have ocean seagulls and sharks it's going to be like living in California in the 60s when is going to be completed. It's going to be easier to take the underground ocean and offload your container ships here in Vegas North Las Vegas is going to be a microclimate to the equivalent of San Diego, Huntington Beach and San Francisco and Humboldt combined. They're using Jurassic science climate change and teleporting and the magic of science including spin directory private trained clouds anti gravity matter and time warp Darvin.

1. About the diversity in music. I live in Orlando and theres WAYYYYY more diversity here than there is in Miami. Miami although very diverse in its own right, is HEAVILY influenced by Latin culture. Orlando literally has a mix of everything. 2. As far as weather is concerned. Not all of Florida is the same weather all year round. Miami might be Warm/Hot all year but here in Orlando it gets cold. Just last week in the morning it was in the high 30’s/40’s. I even had ICE ON MY CAR! Lol. Theres even instances of it snowing in North Florida these past few years (Not joking. Look it up).

I agree with you on the scene in Orlando versus Miami for sure. I know that all of Florida is not the same exact weather all year round. The video is just a generalization and geared towards infotainment. Hope you liked it

Beautiful places in CA, but no way can I afford the cost of living since I am retired. Love Florida. I never had to evacuate for a hurricane in 27 years. I prepare every summer for storm season, while enjoying the FLA lifestyle.

I've been living in California for 7 years and it breaks my heart to see how they are destroying the state. I am going to visit FL in a few weeks and check it out. Born and raised in SoCal 30 years now , I have never witnessed a tsunami , maybe 10 earthquakes that were small. And wild fires do happen every year 1 month out of the year. Where I’m sure Florida has thunderstorms and rain on the normal.

Going to the springs is great for getting COLD water in Florida !

I enjoyed your opinions on CA vs FL. I lived in CA back in the sixties. I loved it. One more for CA is the pay scale. In the sixties I worked in a factory job. It was boring but I made very good money. FL always was low pay and maybe be turning the corner the corner to some extent. Pay was higher than the cost of living but I am talking 1960’s. I have not been there in decades.
