Liverpool Castle Reconstruction

Liverpool once had a castle! This is what it could have looked like, based on some fairly detailed elevation drawings, with a touch of artistic imagination of course because there is not much documented.

lived in liverpool all of my 30 odd years and never really bothered with the history until i started working in Cunard Building 2 years ago. Being around so much heritage thrust me in to a self taught history of the city, from the castle and burgesses of the C13 right through to today. many an hour spent traipsing lazily around Castle Street, the courts, Pool Lane and the walk down to where the muddy pool once ran, ever trying to map out Moore's fields and wishing i could truly envision what life was like back then. This brought me the closest I'm ever going to get, and is truly an amazing piece of work! Bravo pal, Bravo!!!

I have a similar experience. I wonder what the brand-new court slums that went up along the north shore must have been like when they were first built, with the smell of freshly sawn timber and paint, and the sight of meadows all around.

The currently-existing structure named Liverpool Castle is a scaled replica that was commissioned by Lord Leverhulme. Work started in 1912 and continued until Lord Leverhulme's death in 1925.

A pretty formidable fortress in it's day, first class.

Does the music have to be so loud. Looks good except for the towers, would they really be filled with roofs like that? As a platform to fight from raised roofs would be tricky.

Thanks for the comments, the roof was not intended to be seen as it was a first person walkthrough in VR, so you would look up but never see the roof detail. Sadly the video had to be rushed for the museum to display it.

Great work mate, this looks like HDRP. Did you get the layout from Lord Lever's reconstruction near Bolton?

DEXTRA VISUAL cheers, no it’s just plain unity 2019. Because we did a VR version, HDRP didn’t work well with VR and the post processing stack didn’t want to work on the camera...but at some point we will do more in HDRP, but at the moment it seems a little unstable until the Devs nail it.

The reference was from the actual physical model at the museum, as well as some old book with some fairly detailed elevations and plans. So it could have been that yes. As long as it looked like the model, the museum curators were happy hah

Fantastic reconstruction, absolute great work! Did you use some Bethesda Skyrim Construction Set for the task? To me the features look like Skyrim.

On one hand, very detailed, certainly a lot of hard, skillful work. You do lose metaphorical points for the 'big metal torches halfway up a wall, outdoors, in broad daylight, wasting fuel to do nothing useful' thing, though. I know they look cool in movies, but they don't make a lot of sense for castles at the time.
