I am an English watching the game in Mexico, Guadalajara. My Mexican friends kept asking me why England was so bad. Why were all these great players unable to create space or make a simple intelligent pass that did not go sideways or backwards. I answered there are many reasons but in one word Southgate.

It was a pretty even contest to be honest. Saka was the only one who was troubling the Swiss left back a little bit until the 60th minute. But after conceding a goal, England showed good intent and was able to produce some good moments. Overall, I would say it was 55-45 in England's favor if everything is taken into consideration. England have not really dominated and impressed in the tournament so far, like Spain has managed to do.

Kudos to southgate by upping the tempo, let saka dribble, with trippier and walker always overlaps but they are still pass pass pass, back pass, long ball, run... Their attack are too erratic and dont have any pattern..

Remove Harry Kane. He doesnt press!! Foden and Bellingham press! Kane messes it up by putting zero pressure on the ball! Also Kane didnt make any runs to the near post when Saka had it along the baseline!! Worthless!! He stood stagnant in the box! He could have scored in the first few minutes from a Saka cross! Then he missed another opportunity by again standing still instead of making a near post run! Plus Kane made No runs into the box when the central midfielders had the ball! Stagnant! BRING IN Ollie Watkins and watch him sprint at defenders, make runs, pressure the defenders and keeper! Kane to the bench!

I’ll say this, until the pundits unite in their support behind every single player in the team equally; England will always have a difficult experience as a team. Sometimes you hear this veiled excessive of certain players skewed towards making them seem more superior than others, even though their infield performances are atrociously poor to everyone. Support the team fairly, equally. Critically speaking on issues with a sound objectivity, building and not tearing down these young boys. And mcmanaman is as Irish as he is English, it's in his name and written allover his face but born here and proud of his Englishness, just how it should be. I'm nearly as much Irish as English but same, born here. Love England, best country on the planet still, that's why people risk their lives to come here on small boats. Why does Southgate keep using Kane? Put 2 up front and those two are Watkins and Toney. Kane is too slow and Saka put a few crosses into the box and Kane wasn't even in the box!! Saka had a great game, Bellingham was better than previous games, but Southgate needs to go. Over rated as a player, and way over rated as a manager... England will NOT win this tourney. Spain will, as they're the most consistent team in this tourney so far.

Improvements this game: Southgate's overall tactics and formation; Saka, Rice, Trippier, Foden, our pens. Problems still remaining: Kane, Bellingham, subs on too late, not enough shots on goal, not enough high tempo, not enough clear chances created. Overall, acceptable progress but not enough to win the tournament or even beat Holland. Worth celebrating but much to improve still.

Southgate is an awful coach relying on the individual quality of England players to save him. That is why most England fans are not celebrating this victory. They know with better coach England would be walking this tournament and he is bringing down the team to level of Switzerland when it obvious are better individually. The media is going to hail Southgate for getting England to a semifinal, but people who know football know he is still an awful coach misusing the immense talent England has. It infuriates me that he still plays trippier who offers nothing going forward and isn’t even good defensively.
