Hello Evelyn and Nigel. I've watched or listened to probably 80 episodes of Rice to Meet You and in terms of the energy between the two of you, this may have been my favorite of all of them. BTW white guy here listening to an Asian podcast... would like to add that I agree with Nigel in that if I want something done well, I hire a pro. The global economy kind of relies on that! Naturally simple tasks or fixes I will handle, but anything more involved or with a potentially larger downside I call in a pro. Not about money, more about 1) time (which is valuable) and 2) getting it done properly. Lastly, I'd like to ask about sponsorship opportunities (for a relative who owns a business that might suit your audience - I'd like to do it as a gift).

Yup! A lot of people just look at the numbers but forget the opportunity costs. If it's just 300 pounds to save all the time and frustration, I'd totally do it too.

Just sharing a story, I know an auntie who packed and moved everything using a supermarket trolley. They were so poor at the time that they didn't have a car and couldn't afford any removalists. When you are on tight budget, you gotta be creative :) you can use the clothes you have as bubble wrap to pack your glassware LOL

to be fair actual lower class people just abandon 90% of their stuff when they move. like they just jam what they can in their car and leave. renting a truck and buying all that stuff is still very middle class even if you move yourself.

I have to defend Nigel on the Farrow and Ball front; the reason it is good is because you get really saturated colours which absorb/reflect light differently to cheaper paints - so getting a colour matched paint colour by Dulux may give a different overall feeling in the room. This is particularly the case with darker/deeper colours.

Thanks for making me chuckle. I am a London cyclist and I totally agree with you that we don't really help make it encouraging to cycle around here. 😂 Had bike stolen and been run over by a Hackney cab. But it saves a fortune and I always get a seat to work and back. I wish I could drive but I have epilepsy so am not allowed to until my fits stop for long enough. Hope Nigel's move went well and he's settling into the new place.

In the US, we have a lot of scamming movers. They'll hold your stuff hostage or steal and sell stuff. And most grocery stores give you free boxes. So it's safer to move your items yourself.

OMG! Ryanair SUUUUCKS!! So many stories about why they piss me off, and I straight up refused to ever fly with them again after my third flight. I would rather I would rather travel an extra 2 hours to a different airport to avoid them. I would rather pay twice the fare to fly with any other airline, to avoid them. I have mentally changed their slogan to, "Save your money - Pay with your dignity"

Every time I have moved I have hired movers. Guess what each time they somehow damage something. I have looked through all the reviews, and used 3 different companies. Each time damages furniture.

Lion Air was fine. Cebu pacific is worse, but only because their seats are uncomfortable, not because of service. In general, most of us SEAsians haven't really experienced truly terrible air experience. Try flying with smaller carriers in Africa, or even with spirit and ryanair.

I joke that if you have surgery, you have to scrub the house and put all of your affairs in order. If you survive your procedure, lots of people will show up. If you die, EVERYONE will show up.
