Live Editing Sessions - Capture One : 7th February 2023 (Catalog Organisation, HDR, Contrast)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

So, aside from our little "Copy/Apply" meltdown (partly by my brain being fried the second it didn't do what I expected, but also something weird going on when both images were selected!) - we covered a lot of ground today...
First, file system management when dealing with referenced catalogs - this is important, especially for those frustrated by "Locate" and "Synchronise".
Then, how to recover shadows without losing contrast - many ways to do this, some more effective than others.
Then on to 3 images where contrast is key to their look and feel - using the same techniques as above.
Join us live, for an hour of interactive raw editing with your own photographs and images in Capture One Pro.

I use Curves a lot and I hope Paul could do an extended video about Curves. Thanks always for your immensely useful videos Paul!

I have been using CO for 4 years now and still you make me learn something new (copy and apply this time). Thank you very much, Paul!

Yeah - also didn't work though on this set of variants. We've reproduced it too :-)

I'm almost embarrassed that the demonstration of the copy/paste tools didn't really work out. I know how the double arrow tool works. I'm just surprised why nobody uses it in demonstrations and why it is only mentioned rudimentarily, if at all, in the manual. So my original question was: am I the only one using this double arrow tool because I find it very useful. Thank you again for your hard work (I mean that with no sarcasm!). For reasons of principle I am not a member of Facebook. So I can't take part in the discussions etc. there.

You know - the second we finished, I did another set of copy/paste on a different image and it worked perfectly fine. The fun and games of live...! So, we WILL demonstrate it, as it is indeed a powerful tool that should be used more :-)

@@Paulreiffer Did the other image also have layers in the edit? I don't think that I saw the layers listed in the "paste" dialog.

Hi Paul ! and everyone who reads the comment ! Thank you very much Paul for that so interesting editing ! i must admit that it was much more interesting to hear Paul Reiffer than another one ! whose name ??.... i have forgotten ! 😂😂 By this editing i was happy because on the first picture, i found the solution before you said it : the refine mask 🤗🤗👍. Now i use it a lot , i must say. But what i learned again here, is that it was possible to refine a mask several times .I did'nt know. By the way, i learned also that it is possible to change the place of a folder in capture one itself , something that i never used before. and i confess, that i have lost a lot od hours to connect again folders which i moved outside of c1! as i always see ,there is always something rich to learn in Paul Reiffers editing. Paul !i am a bit worry about the future of C1 with all that has beeing said by Rafael in the last interview!😨😰😰

Ah, don't worry - Rafael is focused on both sides - the future development, and maintaining the best tool out there. The future's bright - they just have to get through/over the current "speed bump"! 😎

@@Paulreiffer Thank you Paul for your quick answer ! this is precisely what I doubt a bit :" "maintaining the best tool out there "! i have read the other comments. It seems that a few, perhaps a lot of persons think that C1 ist turned now to the more professional users ! For me since the beginning ,C1 had a sort of philosophy , not to run after the easy way, enhancing fotos instead of changing photos ( with sky replace and why not subject replace and so one !)and i love this philosophy!! I hope i am really wrong and they are not capitulating in front of the other editing sofwares. thanks again Paul for all !

When you were using REFINE MASK with the Magic Brush, why not use the tolerance slider?

  • @Paulreiffer

    @Paulreiffer

    Жыл бұрын

It does a slightly different thing. Refine takes the entire mask and expands to areas that are surrounding. The tolerance slider on the magic brush itself is per-stroke, and only related to the areas that are similar to that one brush stroke/area. 👍

Paul - you should practice on your method of teaching - you skip and turn, after you have just said : "now we´re gonna talk about ....." - and then you ever so often, shift off to other topics or issues. Be clear, teach - lead the way, show by practice...be short, clear and direct.... You can be bold, funny, sarcastic in between - but first and foremost be precise. Remember that people search on specific help issues to be learned, taught or inspired.... so you have to stick to that topic....else its where I for One, shift to other channels of better tutors ;-) Hope you see the difference between irony and sarcasm .... well - I wish you would not burb live.... as you just came back from McD or a night on the town. Be precise and specific, funny, better - your audience is less ahead, and this is why you come in. So be the inspiration, the method or just the solution .... Teaching is a DIAMOND of how to pass it on - knowledge, a term, a way and a path ... I will stick to Mr. Grover untill "further adue"

Oh dear - it seems you may have missed the point of these being live, unscripted, dynamic sessions… 😎 🤦‍♂️ If it’s structured, planned, subject-specific content you’re looking for, I’d absolutely suggest sticking with David’s official Capture One sessions, that’s what they’re designed to deliver. (And absolutely not what these sessions are about here). The purpose of doing things live, with unprepared images and unknown content (I don’t see things in advance) is to help keep things a) highly interactive and b) transparent in the thought process that we often work through when editing. Part of that, of course, is to keep things lighthearted with the community we’ve built while still giving up my own time to help where we can. If that’s not a teaching style that works for you - no issues, but this isn’t the right channel to tune into as we won’t be changing the way we do things here in that respect 😂 We do offer more structured content via the paid masterclass series and the free (just like these sessions) “pro tips” short videos, but other than that, you may indeed need to stick to someone who will “stay on topic” in a more rigid fashion for your own learning needs 😎 Good luck with your photography! 👍
