The new feature is great! Making adjustments in the background and then moving them into a new layer is very handful.

I'll echo the Great session! I have found when working with a newbie the surest way to hit a brick wall is copy / apply. Mix in Edit Selected and heads explode. Makes perfect sense to me- now, anyway. I sympathize- I remember when I first tried to wrap my head around the permutations. Great stuff on the haze / de-haze 'manually'!

Dear Paul, thanks again for the informative support you give us. One word to the version 16.1 and bugfixes: According to the support team of Capture One there will be NO MORE bugfixes for older versions. This includes bugs introduced with the final version of Capture One 22. So now I got stuck with a not properly working loupe tool and collapsing toolboxes when I start Capture One. I think, thats worth a mention. Cheers Juergen

Yup - I covered that in the opening about 16.1 - those who now buy a perpetual license will not get automatic version updates (16.X) if they're released with new features. Subscribers do, and perpetual owners can pay to update.

@@Paulreiffer Thanks a lot - just to clarify: Capture One introduce bugs in their final versions (15.4.3) - you have to pay to get a fix. No warranties, no service, no support. Looks like a good deal for Capture One - if there weren't some warranty rules for software in the EU ;-)

I'd guess they've thought that through - and there's a difference between a bug that prevents an advertised feature from working (covered by the EU regs) and one that has a suitable workaround or is a minor annoyance (not covered by the EU regs). Lots of stuff to come out in the wash - but that's the decision they've taken, so customers can make their own decisions based on those facts now. :-)

@@Paulreiffer In this case it is a bug that is only annoying (collapsed palettes on the start of the software, loupe tool not working properly) but anyway: I am now subscribing because I want the high level quality of the RAW Development and don't want to change my workflow, if there is more competition I reconsider my decision. And I wish to get an opportunity to talk to you in private about your discussion with Rafael - maybe some competition in the ( High - Quality -RAW Development ) market would be helpful ... ;-)

For me, the refine feature is more valuable than the magic brush. In wildlife photography, you learn quickly that the magic brush is not much of a help since the animals try to blend into the background. Even though the zebra with the black and white stripes stands out in the grassy field, if you use the magic brush, the background gets selected as well, even with low tolerance. On the other hand, a quick drawn mask with the normal brush and than apply the refine, Capture one actually finds easily (in my cases) the objects. A magic brush with refine build in, now there is something that might work for me.

Great session, thanks Paul. I always enjoy the rambling journey where you respond to questions because often the same or similar question has popped into my head as I watch in replay at a civilized time of day for us Australians 🙂, or should I use this icon?🙃.

Not to be a smarta.., to me this is structured learning in the Live Editing Sessions. These sessions over the years, have improved my Capture One experiences and techniques. With each image edit presented, the image has its own structure to get the final result. That is how I look at these sessions. The best way to experience Paul’s Live Editing Sessions for the beginner C1 user, is to review Paul’s Pro Tips on this channel or C1’s own channel. This is where you are going to get background on the various functions/tools.
