The American Battlefield Trust preserves America’s hallowed battlegrounds and educates the public about what happened there and why it matters. We permanently protect these battlefields for future generations as a lasting and tangible memorial to the brave soldiers who fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.

You can tell Gary is super excited about the reopening. He is even more geeked up than he is normally.
Wow! Little Round Top looks great! I've been there many times, now I see I've got to go back.
I did a Civil War tour this weekend, I went to Chancellorsville, Antietam, Harper's Ferry, Wilderness, Spotsylvania and Fredericksburg and I must say you guys and your videos are awesome. I watched them beforehand to get a good idea of what to see and look for. You guys do awesome work!
That little round top map the artist made is incredible. It's super nostalgic, it looks exactly like the drawings from that book I got handed down from my grandfather to my father then to me. It was my favorite book as a kid. I looked at all those battlefield maps almost everyday growing up

I always loved learning about the Civil War. I stood where Pickett's charge took place on a very hot humid day years ago trying to imagine all the yelling ,shooting, and close quarter fighting that took place on a hot , humid day on 06/03/1863. That had to be a horrible struggle for those men no stopping till they were victorious or dead.
I was sad Little Round Top was closed last September when I toured the site! Now that it is open I must go back!

It was closed when I was there in April too. I was very sad.
We used a licensed battlefield guide when we toured the park a dozen years ago, and it definitely improves the experience as you hear stories about parts of the battlefield you would otherwise just roll by and be unaware of. These folks definitely know the details of the battle and the park. HIGHLY recommend it.

The excellent map giving an excellent interpretation of Vincent's Brigade.? I always understood the Union forces were along the military crest but this suggests they were actually further downhill that makes sense because of the artillery near the summit and also a degree of conformity of 16th Michigan to what was going on Devil's Den/Wheatfield. Thence the weakness that the 140th New York plugged. Please also John Pullen's book as well occasionally.. it's not just the Killer Angels and film.
Garry and Ranger Chris. Did a great Job. And Sarah made some great points. Garry the follow up is completely detailed about Chamberlain’s unit. Holding his position on Little Round Top.Thank you for sharing. 💯💕👊👍
Nicely done, may the men who fought and died on this battlefield feel the love we have for this place.
My favorite place on the entire battlefield. Little Round Top is finally open again. In 2022 I was in Gettysburg for the first time and unfortunately I couldn't go up there. The Park Service really did a fantastic job and the whole area looks great. Thank you for the guided tour over the revised site.
So happy it's re-opened. It was nice having progress videos to see while the work was being done. Looks awesome!!
Great video, Gary..! Been going to this battlefield as a kid since 1967.!! LRT is always a highlight for battlefield attendees. This is the most user friendly I have ever seen the Little Roundtop. Stong Vincent and Warren are smiling from above... salute.
Thank you so much for mentioning Morrel's Co. B and the Sharpshooters. They played a decisive supporting role in the charge. Thank you so much!
David Greenspan smiles at knowing the inspiration of his map art. Great tribute.
Two big wins on the day Little Round Top reopened. First, of course, was the reopening itself after a nearly two year wait. And we just HAPPENED to be there on the big day! Second, we encountered Garry and his crew, which was an enormous treat! We've seen much of his content on KZread and have been impressed from the start by his CRAZY command of the history, his absolutely infectious energy and his obvious love of the subject matter. We had a few minutes to chat with this rock star, and he was so normal and gracious. FANS FOR LIFE!!!!!
One of these days I'm going to Gettysburg. My supervisor went to Gettysburg, then traveled south to Antietam and Bull Run/Manassas...wish I could've went with him!!!
I'm heading out there later this summer from WI and really looking forward to it. It's been on my bucket list since I was a little kid.

Its the biggest and the best battlefield. Very impressive. You'll need a good 2-3 days to see and absorb it properly.ll
Thank You Gary.. Starting off at the seldom visited 146th NY (5th Oneida) My hometown regiment tht faced its real firefight in Saunders Field a year later!

American Heritage was my 10 year old me battlefield maps - You need to do this interpretation style on every battlefield!!!! Thank You
Awesome artwork, Dave! Having studied this battle since first reading Michael Shaara's, The Killer Angels, while I was a young midshipman at the Naval Academy in 1985, and having walked the ground and imagined the scenes many times since, it's great to finally be able to see an "aerial" view of this part of Day 2 of the battle. It is amazing how accurate it is relative to everything I've studied. It's also really cool that on my next visit, with my family, we will all be able to put a face to this particular interpretive sign--now a true part of the history of the battlefield.
Outstanding video, folks. Adding the bird's-eye view and the illustrator is awesome.
@AmericanBattlefieldTrust ...excellent coverage of Gettysburg 161. Looking forward to more of the same!
Love Gettysburg time on this channel
Never been into the history (I’m 42) until I found this channel about 7 months ago and have watched every video avail and read a few books now about Gettysburg. Its opened me up to more battles as well and just appreciate the energy, preservation and dedication everyone on this channel brings each video. Been saving for 3 months to be able to travel from the west coast and tour Gettysburg and almost to my goal. Appreciate the videos. Yall are awesome

Really fantastic, this is on my bucket list to visit from Australia. Well done All.
Can’t wait to get back there, hopefully in the fall 😎👍
Thanks for the walk around of Little Round Top. Next visit I will have to stop at the 83rd PA monument. The regiment commander Orpheus Woodward is buried 45 minutes from my home in Neosho Falls, KS
We was there the day Little Round Top opened. Seen the News on our tour and went up the hill the next day.
What Little Round Top was closed? 😊. Its nice to see that its open for the 161st anniversary for all those lucky ones that will be there they will get to see the new updates. For those of us that wont be there😢 it's great to have ABT give us a tour. Thanks Garry, Kris, Sarah & ABT & the Park Rangers!
I attended Gettysburg College and ran cross country. The trail looks great for the next generation of runners
Thanks Garry, I bought an Irish brigade cap for myself and a Berdan's sharpshooter for my son 😅
Just an outstanding job in making a visit to LRT a more meaningful and safe experience. Well-explained by the three of you. Just outstanding!!
Outstanding video ... thank you!
Sick upgrades!
Loving this content! I took the whole week off to be able to enjoy it,without worrying about work.
LRT is beautiful! Ive been there many times, now I will be able to go to places that I couldn't get to before. Cant wait to see it in person.
I always wonder how much thought the men who fought this war would give to specific places and times. We spend hours looking at specific things that happened. For them it was just a moment in their lives.
Great video guys can’t wait for the next two days
The map/graphic on the board in the gathering area, produced by Chris Geister, is an example of a Perspective View. This could be called “a Perspective View from Above Little Round Top looking West”.
I can’t wait to see it this weekend!
If one has the ability to actually see this particular battle in their mind, one will eventually come to the conclusion that this fight was terrifying. At the same time, knowing these troops went forward and up, and shot downward with no inhibitions of what was demanded of them and what was at stake. A killing field of fire, and ideologies. Strange to me how I can hear and see, feel and smell these actions. 🇺🇸

Be a reenactor, get the gist of it. The sweat, the wool crotch rash, the cooked coffee/bacon , the taste of black powder, the Hardee's Manual, bayonet drill, the rain/ mud, wet brogans, fouled musket , the smell of wood/powder smoke then you'll know what it was like for a weekend in the field and camp. I did RW,CW , 1812 and could not get enough.
HAIL STRONG VINCENT!!!!!!!
I recall the view at 7:50, was once covered by many trees that were removed...
Gary is infectious
RIP To the 134 Union troops and 279 Confederate troops who were killed in Little Round Top during the Battle of Gettysburg
Can’t wait to tour LRT with the CCWP in October!

This is amazing NPS RangerChris and Kris and Gary, but today is July 1, st, awesome yes this is a place I hope to visit sometime, the battle of LittleRoundTop, July, 2,1863, with signage having images of the battle and bird eye view, David G the artist is so awesome painting, love that you built the model and created the lines of the Union Federal vs Rebels/confederates, Gary DONT GIVE AN INCH! the breastworks? recreated the, 20th ME vol inf, 83pa vol inf, 44th NYsvI, 16th mi vol inf vs the 47, 48, 15 Alabama and 4th, 5th,Texas, Inf brigade LAWs brigade attacked Devils den, the 12 corps star corps/ occupied the tops on july1, built stone wall in big round top, Hazletts battery opened on the attacking rebels july 3 WOW? was there skirmishing jul3, 1863? great video gracias!
Melcher was commanding Company F, the color company, during this battle.
When they mention “Big” round top being visible, is that “Ski Round Top” over by York?
Joshua Chamberlain, his Sabre saved him.Was shot at and the bullet hit his sabre.
Very sad to see all of that fencing. Too bad that they didn't just fix the trails. Now, it's more like they're hearding cattle along chosen paths and you can't go along where you want. I'm so glad that I have been there so many times before. I'll hold on to those memories.

Hey, lf you want to see money well spent, go to LRT. Those fences are a reminder to stay on the trails and let the vegetation flourish. The grasses there need time to grow so that hill does not look like a golf course. Be patient ,don't be in such a hurry. We've waited 2 years, enjoy the efforts that were accomplished. God Bless the Unites States Park Service.

I grew up in Rochester, NY, never knew obout the 140 thNY, Went back home after a zouve and realized Paddy O 'Rorke trained in my back yard. In Webster outside of the city many of 140th 's dead are buried in the Webster Rural Cemetary. RIP PADDY and all of your brave combatants who made it home from that terrible conflict.

What is sad is that there is always someone that needs to be negative. Finding a way to allow access to the site while protecting the environment is far more important than protecting memories of folks that went wherever they want. Very valuable park planning
What kind of relics did they find when they were digging .
If anyone knows of a KZread video showing each new interpretive sign, I’d love to see it.
Little is documented about who or why the 16th MI was pulling back ... a supposed order? It seems every bit as likely that the position was being flanked and the order was from S.Vincent attempting to refuse the line to counter the flanking attempt, similar to what happened on the left, when he was shot and confusion ensued until the 140th NY reinforced the flank.
Has there been a reenactment of the 20 th Maine and little round top?
Doing the work, were any artifacts found?

I visited here about a week before it reopened. I did talk to a ranger at the visitor center. He told me that while building the paths they used a metal detector during construction and got a strong hit. They uncovered an unexploded artillery shell. Since they had several shells of the same type, they had it destroyed.

Nothing like adding historic chicken wire fencing and metal stakes...as well as silly large stone walls that were not present at the time of the battle.

Went to grad school with Ann Weisiger who's paternal great grandfather was David Addison Weisiger, who as I'm sure you already know, served under Little Billy Mahone. With considerable pride, she said great grandpop was mentioned by Douglas Southhall Freeman in the Lieutenants' book. My two great grandpops (Private in 71st NY Res & Corporal in 143rd PA Vols) are rather anonymous. My wife is a distant relation of Oliver Wendel Holmes Jr. (The "shiksa" shows me up again !) Blessings to you & your colleagues at A.B.T., your passion & efforts are appreciated beyond mere words. Thanks again.

Gettysburg film was Confederate Centric, not enough emphasis on the generals and staff that turned the tide of the war. I loved it when Fredericksburg was yelled at the angle, touchet
