I love this video. I took a Civil War History course in college with Dr. Taylor and he was so excited like Gary...love it!! Not the killing though.

That was me in the tan mini van waving at you guys around 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Love your videos. We visit Gettysburg every year. I was hoping to see you guys sometime and I finally did!

It is easy to second guess 160 years later. We know where everyone is and what had happened to them that day. They didn’t. The more battlefields I walk, the more amazed that any of the leaders were able to make sense of anything that was happening on ground they hadn’t seen before. A lot of these criticisms were post war attempts to defend the Lee legacy, which could never be questioned.

I heard on another sites video that Lee was not completely without calvary? Stuart took all the experienced ones away but left him with rookies that Lee refused to use?? So he chose to be blind?

Some people claim that Ewell's headquarters was located as marked, but they don't have a leg to stand on.

After the war, Ewell was a Federal prisoner in Fort Warren, George’s Island, which is located in Boston Harbor. He was there until July, 1865.

I love the mention of Dick Ewell's HQ location being very questionable. The simple fact is, in my experience of studying the matter, now a whole lot of anything is known regarding Ewell at Gettysburg, beyond the afternoon July 1st. There's bits and pieces, of course, and various actions by Ewell's troops on July 2nd late) and 3rd. But having read many books, watched many videos and having been to the Battlefield multiple times...I still invariably feel as if I know next to nothing about what Ewell himself was doing (Or exactly where) those two days. Then again...where was Hill most of the time?

I have not been there, but I own a miniature replica of that monument.😀

How many present-day US Army, Cavalry or Artillery units can trace a unit history back to the Battle of Gettysburg?

Love these Battlefield Guides. They know their stuff. It doesn't get any better than Tim, Garry, Kris, and Sarah is holding her own for being a youngster of this excellent team. I hope to meet each one of them before I pass. And Garry, even Rudolph would need welding goggles ..hanging with you!

From the UK… been to Gettysburg (nerd) six times. Fascinated by Culps Hill/East Cemetery Hill which had fighting on all three days. I walked Wainwright Ave and East Confederate Ave for the first time in October 2022, and it all made a lot of sense. Unfortunately I was the only person walking that start off line apart from a local. If you go, get out there, it’s worth an hour or so of your time 🎉

AP Hill was sick and Corp command was still farly new to him. Imo AP Hill was better when he was hands-on (regiment-division). Corp commanders can't really be in with the troops to micromanage during the battles(especially when your Corp is spread out by miles.

I've been all over the place at Gettysburg. A lot of historical controversy. Let's face it, the Trust short shifts my Southern relatives. I must commend the presenters on their enthusiasm .

As a distance runner with over 100,000 miles run since 1977, I have to ask, …. How much mileage did you guys walk on July 2?

Or when Early launched his late evening attack, why only 2 brigades involved?? If this was a fight to win it all, giving up your flank guard(Walker and Smith)to pull into the attack vs a depleted 11th and 1st corp, after Hays and Avery capture ECH, you send in walker and smith to follow up the best opportunity to win this battle. My poor uneducated opinion.

Love the channel, love what you all do, but the constant teasing of Tim Smith feels a little mean-spirited.

Stonewall, Stonewall, blah blah blah. Having Stoinewall wasn't necessary. Had Lee given 2nd Corps to the most experienced, best qualifified general he had available, namely Harvey Hill. He certainly would have taken the Hill, "if practicable". In fact, no order to that effect would have been necessary. He was more than aggressive enough to get the job done. Just one man's opinion...

But it seems that DH Hill and Lee didn't get along so he was no longer with the ANV. Although he did seem to do a pretty good job of defending Richmond against the rather halfhearted efforts of Dix while the Gettysburg campaign was taking place before being sent further west to the lovefest that was Bragg's Army of Tennessee,

@@tomdynia9951 it wasn't Lee that Harvey didn't get along with. It wasn't Stonewall (his brother in law) and it wasn't Longstreet, who said that he should've gotten the Corp command. It had to be his relationship with other Generals but I have no idea who. Hill was good in the Seven Days and every battle he was in. Remember he was Major General and commanded a BIG division back then. Rhodes' Division at Gettysburg was his old Division. He was also good at Antietam despite the withdraw from the sunken road which may or may not have been on him. Though I tend to think not but who knows. In any case he was a good, aggressive fighter that I think might have been able to sieze that Hill (pardon the pun).
