    My Golden book (actually a few of them) are so old that the foil faded away, so honestly it is still a little golden book, perhaps even more special as it is so much older then the newer ones! Thankfully the pages in mine are all good and not marked or torn, but a very iconic treasure even w/o the gold foil! TFS I'm still loving my LGB!!!

    I just found your video today when I was looking for ways to use the little golden books as junk journals. This is a very great tutorial. Also, although this video is two years old, I went to Joannes today and found out from the cashier there is a coupon on the app you can use as well as she said Google search Joannes coupon and you can use that one on top of it. But you can’t stack the one on your app but you can stack the app on with your Google search one if that makes sense. Thank you for this tutorial and I definitely will be using it. I just purchased about 10 or so golden books from a local antique thrift shop

    I love how those gold beads turned out, really accentuates the gold foil! Did you know you can buy the gold foil strips on Amazon? Just in case you have one that is damaged too much to save. I have a bunch of little golden books to turn into junk journals and will give your method a try. Funny about the Charmin Chatty doll, I had one when I was little! Oh those memories!!!

    Oh my goodness, that’s awesome! You are the first person I’ve ever known of that had a Charmin Chatty doll too! I wonder if any of the records are still around. Thank you so much for your kind comments. Although I was happy with the beads on the Charmin Chatty LGB, I didn’t use that method on the Donald Duck Toy Train LGB and I was super happy with the way it turned out. I have posted a few videos of the progress of that journal as well as a flip-through. Great news about getting the foil on Amazon, thanks! I’ll definitely check that out. Thank you so much for watching!!! ~Kathy xo

    I've been looking for a video that keeps the spine intact so thank you! I have a question. What's the best tool/method to cut your spine? I find none of my cutting tools gives me a clean cut b/c of the thickness.

    Hi, KT, thank you for your question! I use an exacto knife to cut through the foil once I take the signatures out. Little Golden Books don’t really have a spine per se. The signatures are stapled in through the sides and then the foil is wrapped around to conceal the staples. I hope that helps! Thank you so much for watching!! ~Kathy xo

    I really love your little golden book. 😍What size Spine did you make, 1 1/2 inch? I have a pack of those Brad Ring things from Tim Holtz and I have yet to use them. I think the way you did it looks so nice. I never thought of using breathable tape, great idea!! I found some little golden books at goodwill yesterday and I attempted to make my first one last night. I removed the signatures from a Elmo L.G.B. after I took the signatures out. I used a Heat gun to partially remove the gold foil so I could take the staples out. I just didn’t love the look because part of the foil had pulled away from the book when I took out the signatures. I didn’t lift the entire piece of golden foil off, only up to where the staples were. I used art glitter glue to glue it back in place.

    Hi, Deb! Thank you so much!! Sounds like you’re having lots of fun with the project, too. It’s been a while since I made that one, but I think the spine was 1-1/2”. I’m really looking forward to getting my craft room back up and running. The room is painted and the floor is in, but my husband needs to make shelves for the closet and install the baseboards before I can move all my stuff back in from storage. Please be patient with me during this process. Hopefully soon I’ll be able to start making mare videos. Thanks so much for watching and for your lovely comment! ~Kathy xo

    Hi I apologize if this is a repeat but it seems how you glue the front and back cover on that it won't stay together after let's say a few months. Do you have any issues? I love that you keep the foil and don't cut the story

  • @AtticTreasuresEtc

    @AtticTreasuresEtc

    I haven’t had any issues, but I did recently buy a long arm stapler. For the one I’m working on now I removed the foil very carefully with a heat gun, which took quite a while. I’m going to finish creating the signatures before deciding how wide the spine will need to be, then I’ll put the cover together the same way I did in this video, and use the stapler for added security. Then I’ll reattach the foil. Thanks for watching and for the question. ~Kathy xo

    Thank you! When I poked the wire through on this one I had already glued the fabric down on the inside, so I strung some beads on it on the inside, too. But this morning I had the epiphany to do all the beading before gluing the fabric down on the inside, taping the ends of the wire down on the inside, then finish gluing the fabric down, so nothing will show. I’ll be on the lookout for Thumbelina, I loved that story, too. 💕 ~Kathy xo

    Hi. I’m fairly new here. I’ve seen a lot of LGB videos, but yours is the only one I find with the gold spine intact like this. I was hoping to see how you put the pages back in without goofing that up, but I can’t find the next video, if there is one. Can you help? Also, I haven’t done this yet but I’ve seen several posts saying you can use a blow dryer or heat gun to warm up the gold spine,then peel it off intact before taking the book apart. No need to have staple tears in it.

    @@AtticTreasuresEtc Thanks for responding so quickly. I think I’m confused. (Story of my life!) I was sure that when I watched the first video, you had the foil spread out intact and running down the enlarged spine. I see that wasn’t true, so I don’t know what I’m talking about. 🤪 I’ve seen both of your videos here at least once before. Maybe it was someone else. Whatever it was, (assuming I’m not making it up) she had, like, three LGB altered covers all prepared that way, and I couldn’t think how she could sew in the signatures without poking holes in it. I am enjoying your videos very much, even if I see things that aren’t really there. 😂 Thanks!

    @@debbietroyer9480 lol, I totally get it! I often can’t remember where I’ve seen a video. I think you’re right about seeing that in another video, though, because I keep the foil attached to the covers, rather than removing it and reattaching it to the spine. (I hope that makes sense.) Personally, I like the look of the foil in its original place. 😊
