They don't let go... they are like snapping turtles... if 1 grabs you, the only way to get it off is hold the head under water, OR (pro tip) a drop on vinegar in his mouth, he will spit your finger out faster than he bit it.

I mistakenly adopted 2 of these as a kid and they were fun but absolutely the most annoying lizard ever. They bark all night every night and anytime you put your hand in the cage they'd attack it. Definitely the most memorable lizard ive had😂

They come from south and southeast parts of Asia, but they’re endangered. But they are an invasive species to Florida I believe.

As Indonesian or part of South East Asia, you can find them in rural area / village. Some said that Tokay Gecko or we said Tokek are useful for medicine and the price can be really expensive. Although I doubt about it... 👀

Man I know. I use to work in a pet store and boy did we dread get one whenever a costumer decided by one of these guys. I often asked our district manger to stop sending them to our location because many of the workers were to scare to clean their enclosures. These lizard are no joke. After the first bite you don’t wanna get bite again and they will come after your hand if they feel like you haven’t gotten the memo. The funny thing was that they never tried escaping their housing. After they see your hand most of the time they run initially then decide they rather defend their territory. Out of all the animals that could bite you in the pet store these lizards took the cake because the ratio of actually getting bitten was so high because they get aggressive when defensive. They took the best Defense is Offense to literally.

They don't try to escape because they're territorial, and consider the tank their territory. There's a KZreadr I watch who has a fairly tame (for the species) tokay named Tiki, and in some videos he'll feed him with tongs, and lure him out of his enclosure with a tasty bug. Once the bug is consumed, Tiki turns around and crawls back into his enclosure on his own

Adorable. I also flinched when it dove at the camera the first time.😂 adorably scary. As most wildlife can be.

Love how the smaller animals have the most fight in them lol

I had a large Tokay when I was young that could bite right though a leather glove. One night it escaped it's enclosure and got into my parents bathroom. I remember my dad screaming when it jumped on him and started to climb up. I had to give it away after that. Lol

I absolutely LOVE geckos!! I have a pet leopard gecko and I have fallin in love with geckos!! He was a rescue from a crack house but now he's super happy❤️❤️

They are also called the fuck you gecko because their mating calls resemble the phrasing. I used to have two on my property in Naples, one lived in my garage and the other would sneak into my laundry room. The laundry room one would scare tf outta us before we knew what it was because we could never spot it, but when we did it turned out to be a beautiful giant tokay coming in at about a foot long.

Nah thats just their threat sound, their more normal calls are almost identical to their name which is always very fun in animals

We were cross training in Thailand and we one that lived in our shack. As a redneck from tn and a marine infantryman. It was only natural that I had to catch this huge beautiful gecko. I had no clue what I was actually up against. After a week of trying to catch it ignoring all its warnings. I finally caught it……….and it caught me 😂. The Thai marines were waiting for it because as soon as I got it they starting laughing and I started screaming. After the laughter stopped one kind soul felt sorry for me and came to help 😂. Lesson learned

I have one, luckily she’s quite calm, although does occasionally resort to screaming at me when I move stuff around her enclosure. Definitely one of my top 5 favourite reptiles.

I used to warn my friend about Tokays when he got into them and other species after handling mine. They won't break the skin 97+% of the time when they bite but one good chomp in the fleshy area between the thumb and index finger and well, he still has the scar from that bloody learning experience. 😂 They're just such beautiful little guys though.
