Litter-Robot III | How To Fix Blinking Flashing RED Light, Diagnose, Repair & Replace LR3 Cat Sensor

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

The red blinking light indicates CATS (the cat sensor) is detecting excess weight for more than 2 minutes. In this comprehensive tutorial video guide, Aiman will take you through the steps of troubleshooting and diagnosing the red flashing light on your Litter-Robot III (LR3) Open Air automatic self-cleaning robotized litter-box if it stopped working and displaying the above fault message or error code. Here are the #ᴬᴰlinks to some of the components, parts and tools required for this repair or alternative products you might want to consider:
1. amzn.to/481Nebt | Litter-Robot 3 Connect & Ramp by Whisker - Automatic, Self-Cleaning Cat Litter Box, WiFi Enabled, Works with Any Clumping Litter, Designed & Assembled in USA (Grey), 1-Year WhiskerCare Warranty

In most cases, the red blinking or flashing light on the front panel indicates defective CATS sensor, but the first thing you should do before taking further steps is to do the following:
Please check your unit for:
* The litter is above the fill line or in excess of 10lbs.
* CATS has not been reset after adding weight
* The waste drawer has too much weight
* The unit is sitting on an uneven surface ‐ grout lines on tile floor or in a bathtub.
* The unit is pushed into a corner, against a wall, or furniture
* Objects are resting or pressing on the unit
To test your changes, power the unit off and then on. Allow the unit to complete the start‐up cycle and return Home with a solid blue light which indicates your unit is operating normally.
Always press Reset after emptying the waste drawer, adding litter, or moving the unit. You can also turn the unit OFF then ON to ensure the baseline is set properly. When pressing Reset, watch for the blue light to quickly flash one time. This indicates CATS has been successfully reset.
If none of the above solves the issue:
1. Remove the bonnet.
2. Remove the globe
3. Replace the bonnet
4. Press Cycle (without the globe on the unit)
5. Allow the motor to run for 5 seconds, at any point, does it stop and flash red? If no, then excess weight needs to be removed from the globe. If yes, (it blinks red), then watch this video for further steps.
In this video, Aiman will show you how to take apart Litter-Robot III and test the CATS sensor to see if it is actually the culprit by using a simple multi-meter to measure the resistance in the pressure sensor. Aiman will also show you how to jump the CATS sensor should you need to continue to operate LR3 while waiting for the parts to arrive. Please note that you should only do this at your own discretion as jumping or bypassing the sensor might damage the LR3 circuit board. He will then show you how to remove, replace and repair the CATS sensor.
When putting back the bottom foot bolt, It's essential that you DO NOT overtighten the nut as it will crush the cat sensor.
If your foot is white (and the bolt is 1 7/8'' cm) : you need to screw for the bolt to be about ~1/4" (6.35mm) from the bolt.
If your foot is black (and the bolt is 1 5/8'' cm) : you need to screw for the bolt to just be a mm from the bolt.
Taking apart the unit is actually quite simple and easy, however there are a few specialized tools you might need and Aiman will explain that in this video.
If you need to order the parts, click on the following link: www.robotshop.com/en/litter-r...
For those who don't already own LR3 and if you are interested in this unit you'll have to buy it directly from Litter-Robot website, but Amazon has a machine with similar features called CatGenie A.I. Artificial Intelligence Self-Washing Cat Box (Latest Model), which you might want to check it out: amzn.to/3mn0zmT

Thank you very much! You saved us a lot of money. My husband already ordered a new robot, and then I found your video. He canceled the order and bought a sensor instead. My son followed your instructions, and it worked 😅

This is one thing that was much easier to figure out with the older Litter Robots. They had a simple mechanical switch that made a click sound whenever it was activated. Adjusting it was just a matter of adjusting a spring. After a few years the spring would wear out but it was easy to replace.

Thank you, invaluable trouble shooting tip with jumping the connector to verify the sensor is dud. Seems like a really poor design that's bound to fail and for something so prone to fail a *real* PITA to replace. Next time I would suggest they use frickin' laser beams to detect a cat in there.

Aiman, my LR3 shows solid yellow right. I tried everything but it won't rotate. It would be blink blue light when I turn it on and then after the reset,it will be solid yellow light. I'm gonna order online parts to change but not sure which one that has to replace.

www.litter-robot.com/manual_pdf/Litter-Robot_III-Manual-Revision_C.pdf The manual says the following: Yellow -> Red Lights Flashing Sequentially: Motor detects obstruction or jam. Turn unit off and remove Bonnet and Globe. Check for gear/motor obstruction. Reassemble unit and verify proper litter level. Power on and let cycle. If problem persists, contact Customer Service. Let me know if that helps! Thanks for watching!

Sorry for the late reply, school has been really busy for me. I'm sorry you're still having trouble with your unit, but let's not give up and try the following: The following troubleshooting should resolve the blue light blinking while the waste drawer is empty. Once resolved, the unit should consistently recognize when your cat visits and cycle accordingly. To troubleshoot the blue blinking, let’s start by power cycling your unit: 1.) Leave your unit powered ON with the blue blinking light engaged & Unplug your power supply from the base 2.) Wait 10 seconds then plug the unit back in 3.) Allow the unit to complete a start‐up cycle. If the light is solid blue, the code has been successfully cleared. If the light is still blinking, let’s proceed with troubleshooting. Let’s empty the drawer if it has waste and reinstall the bag before proceeding. Note: If you are using a dark colored bag, always tuck it into the tabs. Let’s check your DFI Lenses for any obstructions: Turn off the unit and Unplug the power from the base Remove the Bonnet and the Globe Inspect the top of the Base where the Globe usually rests. Are there any debris? Small amounts of litter is normal. Clean as needed. Inside the waste opening there are two clear ““Lenses”” (left and right side). Ensure there are no debris on the Lenses. Sometimes litter can fall/splash onto them. ** To clean the lenses, we recommend wiping them off with a soft damp cloth and/or glass cleaner. Do not directly spray the Base or DFI Lenses. ** Replace the Globe and Bonnet. Reset the black key in the back of the unit into the pocket. 6. Plug the unit back in. If you turned the power off, you will need to power it on and press ““cycle””. Once the cleaning cycle is complete, the unit should be at the Home position with a Solid Blue LED on. Further Troubleshooting: If the unit continues blinking blue, remove the waste drawer and press cycle. Press reset 2x to abort the cycle and return the unit to home (it will level the litter). If the unit goes to solid blue with the waste drawer removed, ensure there is nothing in the drawer blocking the lenses. If the drawer is clear, your base needs to be repaired ‐ let us know that you tried the full troubleshooting without results. If it still doesn’t work, you will have to contact your reseller.
