I absolutely loved your description of literary horror! 😍 I couldn’t agree more!! 💜💜 I am a huge lover of symbolism so it’s a subgenre that I have grown into loving but I find the “dry” text to sometimes turn me off. For example, I absolutely adored Bunny but Kassandra Caw’s new work felt like a whole sea of nothingness with a few beautiful lines thrown it from time to time 😂 Also I loved how you put warm bodies as lit horror. I can so totally see that! I read the whole series and it’s less about gore and more about what the zombies symbolize to the characters as they grapple with life, society, capitalism, etc. it’s a series I can reread every so often because I grow in my own self-understanding which changes my views on the book. Also also 😂 have you read Monstrilio??? I gave that one five stars and it’s totally lit horror!!

Lol that is totally fair for kassandra khaws work. Did you read nothing but blackened teeth by them too? Yesss I totally loved the look at society and humanity in warm bodies. I really need to get to the rest in the series!! Monstrilio is on my list! I'm going to try to prioritize it for winter. I've heard amazing things!

Loving the pink! Bunny I read a while ago and it was absolutely a fever dream read. Loved Warm Bodies so much, Our Wives Under The Sea and The Cabin At The End Of The Woods. Want to read the others at some point.

Thank you so much!! Yes fever dream is the perfectly encapsulating description 😂 so happy to hear you loved the cabin at the end of the woods too, idk why it has such a low score. I'm thinking it may be since it is so ambiguous and maybe people went in wanting a super action packed apocalyptic survival story 🤔

Love the pink! I always thought Warm Bodies was just a paranormal zombie romance, I'll have to give it a try. Jawbone intrigues me. If you ever feel brave, try the grand-daddy of literary horror, House of Leaves. Have your annotating supplies at the ready. The story at the very center is quite creepy, but you gotta put the effort in to get to it. 😂

Thank you so much! Romance is definitely at the forefront but the secondary characters bring in a lot of dimension. The romance is also not like spicy or anything so it didnt feel weird for me lol. House of leaves is so intimidating!! 😂 but i may have to give it a go one day

OMG I LOVED Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion when I first read it!!!!! I read it right around the time the movie was coming out and I remember going out to see the film and just being obsessed with it! I really feel like it is one of the best / most under rated zombie stories!!! 🧟‍♂💖😍😍

The movie was my comfort watch for sooo long. Once I finally read the book I was not disappointed and just loved the characters that much more. I really need to read the prequel and sequel 🖤

Nice video and thanks for the recs. I'm not sure I'd label Tell Me I'm Worthless as literary horror - I think there's grey area of course, but there are some quite violent and intense scenes of human and supernatural horror in that book. For me, I'd understood literary horror to be more of a book that could stand on its own as a piece of literary fiction but uses some sprinkle of horror to convey a message or theme without having an intent to horrify or scare the reader. With that in mind, 100% agree on Our Wives Under the Sea. The other main literary horror books I've read that I think fit that bill are Monstrilio by Gerardo Cordoba and Natural Beauty by Ling Ling Huang. That said, glad to see people talking about literary horror, and I'll definitely check out Warm Bodies and Jawbone, thanks!

@@WickedScorpio they're both great books and are in my top 5 horror books of the year as of now. Monstrilio analyzes grief though a very queer lens whereas Natural Beauty focuses more on the western beauty industry and what women go through to be seen as beautiful. I'd highly recommend :)

Thank you so much!! There's even a sequel and a prequel to the warm bodies that I still need to get too. I love the movie too. They're pretty similar but the book feels slightly more adult and I felt like I appreciated the characters even more after reading. Monstrilio is on my list! I need to get to that one

For sure! I would also def consider SGJ and even thought about adding The only good Indians to the list but I just may need to do another video because it didn't want it to be too long. I need to read more from T Kingfisher. I've read What moves the dead which I really likes and Hollow Places which I did not care for lol
