What a terrible ending for Dark Mane. It's sad that any of them die and every year when this video comes around it reminds us of the hard life these animals have and how tough each and every one of them needs to be in order to survive at all.

King Dark Mane: Exemplar of Nobleness Tall, dark, and handsome. Valiant, noble, and steadfast. These are some of the adjectives that describe the beloved King Dark Mane Avoca. Never did diabolical aka's or beastly appellations adhere to this solitary lion king. Dark Mane represented a kinder and gentler era than the generation that he followed-- large militaristic coalitions with rule-the-world ambitions and live-by-the sword existences. He patrolled a straight and narrow path. Never was there a kink in Dark Mane's tail. He seemed more like a father who headed and protected a household than a monarch who conquered and ruled a kingdom. Rather than acquire several prides, Dark Mane dedicated himself to one pride, the Talamatis. And he did his Talamati pride proud. He helped raise seven sub-adults-- five daughters and two sons. Dark Mane's brother, King Mohawk, overseer of the Nkuhuma pride, now has inherited the Talamati pride. We wish Mohawk the best. During the last few days of his life, Dark Mane was spending much of his time with each of his two sons. We wonder if he was planning to form a coalition with them. We wish the two Talamati princes much success as they form a coalition and continue their father's legacy-- a legacy of nobleness.

This is heartbreaking. I didn't realize we lost so many. I remember when Purple Eye returned on Djuma with that eye injury. I'd assumed it was a feeding injury, but just my thought. How did she die? She wasn't old, ugh. And Amber eyes, I adored her. Are the Nkhumas raising her cubs? She was so feisty, such an asset to the pride. I just don't understand what happen, Mhangheni too? She may have been older tho? Sorry for all the questions, obviously I missed a lot and trying to process.💔

A Moment in Lion History: Remembering King Tinyo Battle-Hardened Warrior/Softy Lion Dad Rugged, battle-scarred, and with a disheveled mane, King Tinyo Birmingham looked like a big Teddy bear that had been played with a lot. He was one of the fiercest warrior-kings to ever stand his ground in Sabi Sands. But underneath the battle-hardened veneer was one of the most affectionate lion dads whose favorite pastime was playing with his many cubs. After King Nsuku passed away in 2019, Tinyo, when he wasn't patrolling territory, spent much of his time mentoring the Kambula cubs in Mala Mala while his remaining coalition brother, King Nhenha, coached the Kambula sub-adults. Tinyo entered the Peaceable Kingdom in November 2021 at age twelve. He carried with him the name of his fathers, the three Birmingham Elders. He was predeceased by his coalition brothers, Scrapper, Mfumo, and Nsuku. Tinyo was closest to Mfumo. He and Mfumo protected the Nkuhuma pride while Nsuku and Nhenha oversaw the Torchwood and Styx prides. Scrapper, the most aggressive member of the Birmingham Coalition, passed away young at age five. Tinyo had a fifth brother who passed away before the coalition entered Sabi Sands from Timbavati. Tinyo is survived by his brother, King Nhenha, by his nephews, Prince Mfumo(Nkuhuma) and Prince Torchwood, and by a niece, Princess Tsalala. The next to last veteran of the Era of Warfare Lions(Nhenha remains.), King Tinyo Birmingham was one of the five reasons(Scrapper, Mfumo, Nsuku, Tinyo, Nhenha) why the legendary Birmingham Coalition was one of the greatest.

The year 2022 has been a dark one, a lot of sad loss, bad news after bad news...I don't like to see a Lion die, even when I don't know him, but when it's a Lion or a Lioness that I like very much, it's hard...I must say that the loss of the three Lionesses of othawa pride💔and the four sub adults,💔really made me sad, I thought I was seeing pride take on a new breath, with Autie and aging Mama, I already saw Sassy take over as guide and dean with the young subs but nothing happened as I would have liked and it was shock after shock and a disaster for the pride…I still don't understand why they euthanized Sassy, she didn't look so bad (compared to other Lions), for me she got overwhelmed and didn't know what to do next the death of her aunts...but they shouldn't have euthanized her, but rather helped her, maybe she would have regained the desire to fight...I place all my hopes e of the two remaining Othawa sub adults❤️I hope they make it...a big thought for all the other deaths of Sabi Sands this year, DarK Mane💔Blondie, Limper💔the Mangheni Lionness, Silver Eye,💔Amber Eye , Purple Eye💔the Talamati female and the oldest female Styx💔I also think of all the sub adults❣️🌹who have disappeared...

@@private4918 It's likely only temporary. It's rare, but not unheard of, for subadults to care for sibling cubs in a meaningful way. Othawa Male did it when Dark Mane Majingilane passed, but he was precocious for his years.

I do wish & maybe would like to request that for tributes, that the lion’s death or dying body not be shown. It is tragic enough that we’ve lost these incredible animals & hard enough to come to terms with. Please, there’s no need to show them at their worst. Show them at their best. Show them the way we should remember them - in all their glory. ❤

Didn't a Birmingham male die this year or was that last year? Also would be nice to get an update on the Ross Males and the Birmingham pride with the two white lines and would be nice to find out what happened to the young Birmingham male and Torchwood male. If anyone knows of any videos would be very helpful I have a lot of time in watching that group of lions and it's like they just disappeared at least the videos.👍

The Ross males are old and are largely nomadic now. The were pushed out of the Birmingham pride earlier this year after steady pressure by the younger, stronger Mbiri males, who have taken over the Birmingham pride now. Luckily, the white female and her sister/cousin subadult females were old enough not to be attacked. The Mbiri’s have accepted them. The white male and his litter mate were forced to be nomadic by the Ross males at the end of their reign, but they are doing well. They are seen back with the Birmingham pride when the Mbiri’s aren’t around still. I have no news on the 3rd subadult male that was a few months younger than the white male and brother. The YBM and YTM are now called the Mongawane coalition and is still nomadic in the timbavati, as far as I know. I haven’t seen any updates on them since they were associating with the Avoca pride some months ago.
