Lions Choke Buffalo Then Start To Feast!

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Incredible sighting as lions choke a buffalo and then start to feast!
The Selati male lions caught a buffalo bull on the soccer pitch, we arrived just in time to see the last life drain out of the huge beast as one lion had a choke hold on the neck and the others were already starting to feast. Later in the afternoon the buffalo had been moved to a bit of shade and the very full lions were still feeding.
Filmed in the Sabi Sand Nature Reserve, Greater Kruger National Park, South Africa

About Rob The Ranger Wildlife Videos:
The purpose of the channel is to show what it is like to experience seeing wild animals on an African safari. Nature Documentaries are often highly edited to tell a story, wildlife safaris are not, and the idea here is to show the wildlife sightings the way they were seen. Safari tours in Africa are generally suitable for all ages and this channel can be considered an educational channel about incredible nature, some scenes in the nature videos may be more graphic than people are used to but this is the reality of nature and is what you would see if you were present on such a safari in person. Safaris in Kenya, South Africa, or any other African country are an unrivalled experience for anyone with a passion for nature, wildlife photography, and travel. Hopefully the animal videos on this channel can provide a glimpse into what the nature experience is like and encourage more people to take a wildlife safari one day. Lions typically get expelled from the pride when they're 5/6, but in order to mate they need to take over another pride. However, they need to build up enough strength and confidence to do so, which means taking down a series of large kills so they can become big and strong enough. So they can challenge those apex lions to a takeover.

I think the lion biting the windpipe can feel the buffalo’s pulse with it’s front leg and knows when it’s heart stopped. Think of the Trafalger lion statues showing how lions sit with their front legs flat against the ground. I think that they “hear” or pick up the vibrations of animals walking. I was watching a wildlife program and they were filming in infra red at night and an antelope had a bright patch on its hind quarters then suddenly the lions went for it and caught it and the narrator said they must have heard the limp but I think that they picked up the vibrations of it limping.

It's a buffalo. Buffaloes are huge animals with thick skin, broad and extremely muscular neck. Therefore it's difficult to suffocate a buffalo. Sometimes, lions will clamp their jaws around the prey's mouth and nose instead of the throat, and suffocate it in what is often called a 'kiss of death' - they are most often seen using this technique with buffalo. However other preys are killed quicker than a cape buffaloes

***** The great Selati Coalition is no more. Only two left last I heard and seen. They were ousted from their vast territory by the Majingilane Coalition. The last two Selati brothers wandered for a while but was able to find a small pride to lead. I hope they are doing well.

+LegionAire Minion, You're right! They're "No more"... and we can all say that now, because they're only two of them, and they're now old... so they're on their way out. They were such great hunters(I loved to watch them-- amazing thing),

+Syed Misbahuddin, "Becoming good hunters?" I'm taking it that you're not familiar with Selatis at all, lol, for you to make a statement, like that. This video is old! Besides, they WERE great hunters prior. This video was during their hey-days when they used to kill 4-5 buffaloes every Week.

+Mr. T/Kinky Tail Mapogo They aren't old though. They are in their prime still. Only 7 years old. The problem is they usually find themselves outnumbered by bigger coalitions. But they are strong and prime lions.

*****, I know you asked Jairo the question but I'm on here so I will answer. These are the lions who killed Mr. T. They were five brothers originally, one died very young and the other 4 Selati brothers killed T. Kinky Tail was killed by the four Majingilanes.
