It really bothers me that the train is 0-31 or 0-36 on some diesels but the passenger cars are like 0-54, so when I look at a train I can't tell if the train set is 0-54 or 0-31 sometimes.

@@buecomet831 yeah it’s kind of annoying. Unfortunately the coaches almost universally require larger turning radii than their matching locomotives because of their respective lengths.

@@buecomet831 yeah and that’s annoying. It’s usually because the engine is shorter than the cars and therefore can go around shorter curves.

The livery, the coaches, the quality... It’s beautiful!

Fun fact Eric: An alaska rr F7A unit 1508 currently still resides in my state of Massachusetts, its stored on the roster of the grafton and upton railroad.. used to run santa trains for them, and it did switching locals on mass central before

I remember seeing this in your great train count video and I'm so happy to see it running. Amazing stuff as always, see you in 2023!

That is a really nice set of engines and cars. I love the paint scheme and all the added on details. Some research on the Alaska Railroad shows that their F units had silver painted truck frames until continued use turned them a dirty black. I was surprised that Lionel did not include the flexible end-of-car diaphragms to help close the gap between the passenger cars. You did a fine job populating them which makes all the difference. Thanks for all your efforts and I am looking forward to your new videos in 2023.

Been watching since I was 8 years old and had my first Lionel set. I've taken a few year hiatus but have found myself on your videos again. I forgot how cool these are

I like the detail on this set like the night light or side light between the cars lighting up the area between the cars. Just real nice detail.

Thank you for showing this great looking set. Watching it go through the switches was a plus for me. To see the 21inch passenger cars smoothly go through the switches is awsome. I always get educated by looking at your videos and appreciate the talent and time you put into them. My son and I run MTH engines. So we are not able to run any Lionel because the DCCs limitation. Nice to see folks like yourself enjoy and have the passion for quality electric trains. Thanks again John Huntt

Outstanding set Guy! I pre ordered the new DD-35 in Alaska livery as a tribute engine to my sister in law who is Alaska native and Fierce! Use it to pull a family themed excursion train with rolling stock referencing our family . It’s definitely on my list to build out a train like this for the layout for sure . Cool. I wrote on the Alaska railroad back in 2012. Ironically, those colors are my favorite colors. Generally speaking I love yellow and navy blue plus they were my high school colors. We rode from anchorage to Denali, and then another time on the same trip. A few days later we went from Denali to Fairbanks combined. We ate three meals on the train lots of sightseeing. It was a very unique experience, and that was only part of the trip.

F units are cool as hell in general, but I think the ARR's F7 units are my favorites for three reasons... 1) The blue/yellow paint scheme that feels reminiscent of Santa Fe's blue/yellow scheme, 2) the big snowplows they have, and 3) ARR 1500 was featured in Runaway Train as part of the titular train's consist and served as a cool set piece during the final third of the film.

Just got the new Santa Fe GP 20 Lionchief 2.0 with the blue and yellow war paint scheme. Looking forward to your review!

I have the NS f-9 set with the theater car , and the vista doom that look amazing on 096 curves! My only complaints is the spacing between the cars and no observation car (lionel if you’re listening)

Eric - when you compare a set like this to a single Rolex or Omega watch, I think it’s a pretty good deal what you get for your money, and the fact that the premium sets with TLC, will hold their value or likely appreciate. We need to encourage Lionel and the other train manufactures and not bash them like some do. Thanks for another superb vid.

Not sure, but that’s how it was in the catalog so clearly it was on purpose. It could be that the real B units had black trucks, who knows

It is a beautiful set. One thing that bugs me though is the black truck side frames on the B units. I would paint them silver. But, that's just me. Enjoy the set.

Start by saying, an absolutely beautiful train, and I would love to see the "Trains eye view". Those who are "pounding the keyboards declaring Lionel evil"? I forget from years ago watching you build your layout but I want to build my main layout like your with the turntable how big is width and end to end in that main room and are all your corner loops all 72 curve or is the inside loop 54 curve?

I think that was done on purpose. I don’t think the real train has one. What they need to make are the double decker cars though.

IM NOT A BIG KZread COMMODORE but talk about the price 3000-4000 is ALOT that's the price of my current car lol SO I think it would be cool if u did something budget friendly NOT talking just a stater set but like what's the coolest awesomest most realistic looking train you could build for like under a 1000 not including track and transformer AND maybe one steam train and one Diesel train sorry for making this so long but I do think this would be a really cool video idea.
