Nice to see a former LS&I Consolation in model form. Hope she gets restored soon, one of her former stable mates, WMSR 734 (formerly LS&I 34) is down for the same inspection. It's great that so many LS&I steamers made it to preservation. I know it would be very unlikely but it would be neat to see them all together some how, almost like a class reunion.

What's also cool is that we've gotten to see multiple classes of the same wheel arrangement in operation as 734(and 33) are very clearly different locomotives to their older sisters such as 18 and 29. Each share common lineage but are clearly separated into "light" and "heavy" types despite all being LS&I locomotives. It's nice so many were preserved that we get to see them both reviving dead sister classes(such as 734 taking up the torch of the extinct WM Consolidations) as well as a number of both types preserved in their original LS&I configuration. Certainly an anomaly in preservation... you'd almost think LS&I was a Canadian railroad or something.
What a great day, I come home from work and there's a new Erics trains.😄Great looking set.
it’s a great day when eric uploads a video

@@transfo47 Same encode quality as most of my other videos. Not sure what you mean. Maybe you've got a slow connection or something.
I'm watching this video from Vietnam. With me is a NP Lionel Berkshire, 4 Lionel Lines O27 passenger cars, two Tide tank cars, and the Menard's Tide factory. This is to be added to my godson's other trains I gave him previously. I just wish I could find some decent track with switches. No AC here, and very humid. Using Atlas Industrial Rail track now. I would love to visit the factory where the trains are made, but I have no idea where it is.

WOAH. HOHOHOHOHHHHHHHHHHH. I am speechless. I grew up watching GCRy 18. She's not at GCRy anymore. But she was fun to watch.
This set looks awesome on your very northern Arizona looking layout, it's like your layout was waiting for this set!
Nothing like good old American trains find parts for this one in 10 years

The last good old American trains were made 30 years ago lol.
This train set goes really nice with your layouts theme of the mountains and desert
Great review Eric. The Grand Canyon steam engine is very nice, and the set is awesome! 👍
Plot twist: eric drops the set out of the box purposefully, only to find when he opens it that every single piece broke beyond repair
Thank you for all the wonderful train content. I've been watching your Channel 4 years. I really appreciate your enthusiasm and educating the public and what you know. Thank you
I love this set really reminds me of the early days of the Grand Canyon Railway I wonder if Lionel will produce a model of #4960 I can still remember riding behind her as a kid.
Awesome looking set!
Thanks for this review, Eric! I had originally placed an order for this set but had to cancel it. To it in action makes me want to try again to get one.
That's a nice addition to your collection of trains Eric 👍👍
Gorgeous train, with an appropriate name, love it, God bless you pal!!
Hey Eric, Great review as always .. my only gripe with Lionel (well, besides the cab2 discontinuation debacle) are the bi colored marker lights .. Laser beam horrific .. esp green. Did get your ES44 .. awesome engine!
Beautiful set Eric! Thanks for your review.
Dang that is really an awesome set, Also great review Eric!
Great review man! Thanks! Set looks great
A nice review and a great looking set!
Hey Eric , As usual great video. I like you ended up buying 3 as well . Bought the set, the Maine Central. And the hobby shop exclusive long island. Thanks for all your work.
I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but just so you know, you pronounced Ishpeming correctly.

hey Eric when will you upload the video of the 2023 volume 1 catalog order?
Can we get a new layout tour please
I have the Southern GP7 set from the 2021 Vol. 1 catalog. The entire set was made in Vietnam
I gotta get my self one of these.
nice set of cars
Great set, i do wish lionel would make an updated 2-8-0 tooling though, it's nice, but seems a little outdated

They never will. Lionel is run by cheapskates. Go with MTH.
Great review Eric.....The GCR set is amazing. By the way, how is the railroad doing with 4960?
Whistle 4 in my opinion is the best
The whole valve gear setup is wrong for 29...... there are other issues too. looks like they tried on the other details to get close to 29's appearance
@Ericstrains
Жыл бұрын
Yep, like I said it's not a perfect replica of #29, but it's fairly close.
Have you already done a review on UP 1989 that I see in the "roundhouse" area?
This model of 29 has no baker valve gear it has Stephenson
8:30 Eric, I am a huge fan of your videos and by no means am I a Rivet Counter, but to say that 3 rail O-Scale may not be for you if your looking for an exact replica may have been a bit harsh. After all you own a ton of Lionel models that are practically exact replicas! (VisonLine comes to mind right away!)

I wonder if the builders plate on the model spells Pittsburgh without the h, which would be prototypical for the time it was built by ALCO

Nice Video Eric - I purchased the set from Lionel after watching your first video. I actually rode the Grand Canyon RR last year and have some solid pictures of 29 dressed up with Christmas Lights. Unfortunately my set arrived in shambles - I wish my unboxing was like yours - the plastic for each passenger car had disintegrated in shipping and all my passenger cars were damaged. My question to you - do you not hear a distinct buzzing when the engine is at idle? I thought it was my damaged set, however I hear it on your video too. I own a lot of premium Lionel engines and I am baffled how the quality continues to decline as the prices increase. I really do love the idea of this set, hopefully I'll find a better quality replacement down the road. BTW did not see "Best Feature" on this video. Thanks.
Why doesn’t Lionel have their rolling stock and locomotives be made in USA instead of china. I’m just curious to know why. The train looks amazing
@muir8009

Because it will cost considerably more. Lionel recognized this about 50 years ago.

Almost all Americans ARE working.
Nice looking loco and coaches, but 3 rail just looks so naff and unrealistic. Come on Lionel, get in the 21st century and ditch the awful third rail, looksike something from the 1940s
No reason why that stuff is made overseas. They should employ American workers for the prices they charge. Lionel has gone sideways. Now trains for the rich not even built here
