FYI, I goofed and called the feedwater heater on the top of the smokebox a "super heater". Also, there are chapters for those who was to skip around.

The paint scheme on the engine is fantastic. My dad always says it doesn't matter what you run or even if it actually existed, as long as you like it. I love that they included the two different eras of PM box car paint schemes.

For any of you who don't know about the difference with the Pacemaker Box Cars, the lettering and car numbers were originally white over light grey. Because of this, yard workers who were reading the car numbers to the clerks over the telephone that were making documents for train crews had difficulty reading the car numbers. And so, for that reason, the car lettering was later changed from white over light grey to black over light grey. That's what the different lettering variation in the expansion pack is about if any of you are wondering.

Thanks for the informative review. The paint scheme is really sharp. I have the MTH Premier version of that Pacemaker train and they use an L4a Mohawk 3100 as motive power. The actual caboose on the real Pacemaker train was a converted boxcar with an added cupola and painted to match. The MTH Mohawk you have, 3149, is an L4b and was the last Mohawk built for the NYC. Looking forward to your next review. Happy Easter to you and yours.

Wow,this Mohawk set from Lionel certainly makes a statement coming down the track. Lionel did an awesome job with this engine and cars. Before you unboxed everything,I honestly thought a red loco and cars was too yucky and was going to blow this one off. Until the loco came out. When you put the Mohawk on the tracks with the box cars,my heart started pumping. Honestly, for me,the only train that excited me was the vintage Santa Fe 2343 F-3s carrying either freight or shiny's. This train is the bomb exciting. Course,I didnt hear the cost either. That brings me down to reality despite being divorced. Good stuff Eric.

I always enjoy your videos and your information us usually spot on, however I need to point out that the tank on the front of the boiler is an Elesco Feedwater heater and not a super heater. The Super heater would be inside the smoke box and feed the steam pipes back into the boiler. I have seen others make this same mistake. Thanks! Gorgeous train!

Eric, I truly love your display of the new Lionel models and all of the educational details and minutia that you have incorporated in your videos. Also the price points and countries of production. As we (as human beings on this planet) move forward into the future, I was wondering if you had any thoughts or projections as to the future of model railroading, or the products of future technologies affecting this hobby? Specifically, what will become of real trains and model trains based on them? Like the evolution of the engine--steam, diesel, to electric--possibly to nuclear-powered, or Mag-Lev? I am certain that future model train manufacturers will reflect any changes in technology with all new models being produced. That said, will you have to build new layouts with no tracks, or elevated mono-rail-type lines, or even just flat roads that support semi-airborne "trains" or cars floating above the surface? Most of this may not come in our lifetime, but all hobbies reflect the standards of the time--witness model planes going to actual "rockets", and lighter than air dirigibles, and drones with remote control, and cars and trucks becoming more and more realistic, with some having power plants based on the real thing. Just curious where you think model railroading will head in the future--will you have a train running on air above the"tracks" with no wheels and no fossil fuel. Something to think about.

You probably understand this more than I do because there’s actual ballast between lines. Let’s say to give the layout a ‘foggy’ look you could take a Niagara (or any other locomotive with the water scoop effect) and fill the track space with smoke would this work as a legitimate tactic for looks or just choke everyone to death in the room?

The MTH Mohawk details really make it look like a brass model. The Lionel Pacemaker Mohawk details look ham-fisted, by comparison. I'll take the MTH details over the Lionel sound because upgrading sound is just a software update away while physical upgrades are a lot harder. I wonder if the caboose is semi-scale. Maybe Lionel, MTH, Weaver, K-Line, or Atlas produced a pacemaker caboose that would better complement these box cars.
