Jackeroose98 Lol Sorry if I triggered you. I LOVE Spirited Away as well. It's my 6th favorite film of all time. That's in general, not just animated. But The Lion King just has this aura about it. When Mufasa confronts Simba late in the film and tells him he is more than what he's become, I get this feeling inside that I've never felt before. The score, the beautiful visuals, the powerful voice acting by James Earl Jones. It's like the stars all aligned to make the most perfect scene. I'm always transfixed by the stars and background when I watch The Lion King. The atmosphere just takes me over. The Lion King is with out a doubt my favorite film of all time.

Scar actually gave himself that name when he was a kid, according to one of the Lion King books Disney put out. Even back then he was super salty that his father preferred Mufasa over him, so he tried to make his brother get into a fight with a giant water buffalo. Things went wrong, the buffalo charged at him, he had to be rescued by Mufasa, and he got that scar. So, he changed his name so as to always remember that day (...as if the scar wasn't enough)

It's by far my favourite movie based on a religious story; usually, the writers/directors simplify the story and characters to the point that no one acts like real people (because being a true believer means you never make mistakes or stress about what path to take, right? Right?), but this movie makes the people relatable and their actions understandable. Also, the music is quite good. :) Now you have me curious about how similar the versions of the story are between the Old Testament and the Quran... To Google!

"Nants Ingonyama" is Zulu. Also, as far as I know, TLK is the first ever Disney film to be totally dubbed in Zulu. Ingonyama is Zulu for Lion. Here is an interesting Quora answer on the chant. This person says that, in this context, it's no ordinary lion, as "Ingonyama" is used to refer to a Zulu king. Also, only royals can wear leopard print (www.quora.com/What-are-the-lyrics-of-the-Lion-King-introduction-What-do-they-mean/answer/David-Barnes-76?srid=RjQl).

i was at a different point when i saw the lion king and didnt really get the same impact from mufasa's death that i can remember, but the music department of my high school took a trip to New York a few years back to see the musical version. We had a sort of behind the scenes tour before hand, though, during which they explained the swords and costume choices of more human characters. it was after that tour that watching the musical left a VERY different feeling than i expected to get out of the musical version of an old disney classic. That's when the "realness" of the story really sunk in...

I've always been a life-long _Lion King_ fan, but I never really appreciated the 'realness' of the story until I started getting into sub-Saharan African music (particularly South African music) and realizing how much they were influential to the film and Broadway show's soundtrack, because once you actually learn the words to the various isiZulu songs and lyrics you realize how deep the themes run (especially in the Broadway show's 'exclusive' songs) and it just makes the whole thing that much more powerful.

I'd imagine that he'd be under contract to deny that they took the concept since the movie was so heavily advertised as being disney's first original movie. Also it would look very bad on him and probably ruin his chances of being hired to work on any future projects.

  • @thedudeabides3294

@James Mulchrone is most likely accurate. Still feels terrible. The whole discussion about showing the death of Mufasa - and how we already know anime have always taken the challenge of portraying death and its finality. The fact that this was not a slightly inspired clone but a blatant copy in characters, theme, art, story. The fact that this was touted mainly as an original idea. The fact that they got away with it and now want to milk it again with a remake in the age of internet.

Is so cool to see the director of one of the greatest animated films of all time be so cool and humble. Also, kudos to him for designing Ursula. As an artist myself I have always considered that design quite brilliant. Also, what is wrong with bad guy themes? They are awesome! Frollo's "Hellfire", Scar's "Be Prepared" and Ursula's "Poor Unfortunate Souls" are the bests. Ratcliffe's "Savages", even though is not a villain-only song is very good as well.

I don't care if he or someone else was subcontiously inspired by Kimba, because Osamu Tezuka, the guy who created Kimba, was largely inspired by classic Disney films. Just look at Astro Boy and you can see parallels. It's each artist and studio inspiring one another.
