@@PardontheJPG There are tons of tiny resistors in the center on the back of the CPU that are sticking out. They fit inside a large hole in the socket and can very easily be damaged by a drop. Aside from this, scratches can disrupt connectivity between pads and pins or connect two pads together, so there's still a lot to break.

Man, I double took as hard as the other dude in the show did when I read this, and had to go read up on the matter. If anyone, like me, had a "wait WTF" moment -- The context is that Linus was talking about how much media has changed in his life time and said something like "I've dropped my fair share of hard Rs" And kept chatting while the cohosty guy looked as if he had suddenly been slapped with a fish. Turns out, that he thought that "a hard R" was a euphemism for the R-word. (That is, the pejorative that refers to mental disability that was a really common insult 20 years ago).
