LINOCUT PRINTMAKING PROCESS: transfer, carving and printing "PICCADILLY CIRCUS"
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This is one of a series of linocut prints I created for the last term of the MA in Children's Book Illustration in Cambridge.
I tried linocut for the first time on this project, so I'm still a beginner! But I really loved it.
Check the other prints of the series of "Alice in WonderLondon" on my Instagram: jess.illustration
I learned how to create a multi-colour linocut following this awesome tutorial by Emma Woodthorpe on Skillshare: skl.sh/2ZtbTnZ
(this is an affiliate link. Get two months free of Skillshare Premium!)
Materials:
- Easy carve blocks: handprinted.co.uk/collections... surfaces/products/easy-carve-pack-of-10
- Cranfield Caligo Safe Wash, Relief Ink
- Woodcarving Tools: handprinted.co.uk/collections...
- Roller 3inch: handprinted.co.uk/collections...
- Paper: Office paper, Strathmore Printmaking paper (best results IMO), Handprinted Printmakers Snowdon
- Tracing paper
- KOH-I-NOOR HARDTMUTH "GIOCONDA" SOFT PASTEL: it transfers better on a dark block compared to a normal soft pencil. Any kind of soft pastel should be fine

ngl when you first printed the pink with all the noise I was like 'wtf are they doing', but that's highkey genius and I WILL be stealing that idea. I love this as well, super impressive, especially as your first print good job!
I'm exploring lino printing right now. This inspires me so much! Thank you💓

Interesting use of stencils. You use them mainly to keep the prints clean, right?

Hi! The ink I used (Caligo Safe wash) can be washed with water and soap. Dish soap works pretty well :)
I've got an unrestored ~135 year old letter press in the shed. With a little work I bet it could be used for this sort of thing.

This linocut art came out very nice. Is this something that people do in the printing industry? It seems like lots of work but it still looks awesome.

Thank you very much! I'm attending a master in illustration so I'm learning several printing techniques. Not sure how many people use it professionally, but if you are a printmaker, this is a common technique because it doesn't require expensive equipment :)

@@JessWasHere Yes! Its sounds more approachable now that you say more affordable. We all start off small. We have to take those small steps before we can get anywhere.
