12 layer multicolor linocut print ''MIDNIGHT PRINTING'' by Emils Salmins
Фильм және анимация
''Midnight printing''
In this print I tried to create the classic Ukijo-e look, using lino. This was my first attempt at a small multilayer linocut print so I wanted to document it. In the process, I created more layers than I expected - as I was going, the image was constantly changing. Next time I could probably plan more carefully and save some time.
I made a set of 20 prints.
This print was made for The Awagami International Mini-Print Exhibition (‘A.I.M.P.E’) Japan.
In this video I used Cranfield's Caligo Safe wash relief inks - Extender, Black, Process Blue, Napthol Red.
Paper - Awagami factory, Kitakata Select 90gsm
Registration pins - Ternes Burton

Total joy seeing true creativity and artist at work
THE RELIEF PART? SHEESH. This is such an amazing piece i love how the characters prints on the wall show literally show the process of making the print itself
God level!
Siiiiiiick!
Great idea for layer 12
Extraordinaire ✌️
amazing work, keep going and someday algorithms will start to work
The music gets all suspenseful as the last ink layer goes on, you have a few extra shots to stretch the video out and I'm like, 'oh that's perfect, nothing more is needed. The video is closing up and we'll see the final piece.' THEN you throw on that last impression layer, no ink, at the end and my mind exploded! Love the work dude, please keep making videos!
The embossing was a sublime touch! Beautiful work of art.
Thanks a lot for doing this videos 🙏
Everything about this is incredibly professional work, you should be proud and I love your tattoos

lost my mind when you pressed with no ink, embossing the paper to make the print in the artwork

Thank you for sharing your technique! I don't think I've ever seen a multi-layer print done without first printing the key block to each colour block. Glad to see it's feasible to skip that step, although I imagine you had to be *extremely* precise about the placement of the drawing on each block for your tracing.
just as lucy turned into USB, you turned into art, man.
What an amazing process to watch. I never realised how many different layers there were to Lino cut printing
Mad respect and admiration for this art form and your skill
Bravo!
Amazing craftsmanship.
Exquisite!
great print! and love your attention to detail, the embossed print you show at the end was a great final touch
Tu fais un travail remarquable! Je suis sans voix face à autant de créativité et de talent. Bravo. C'est vraiment magnifique, je ne me lasserai jamais de regarder le processus de création. Quel artiste! J'adore!
Excelente trabajo! Saludos desde Argentina.
Watched your last video of the "CAT LADY" and I'm so happy that I was able to get my hands on one of the prints, because your work is simply amazing! But seeing your last video made me want to check your past videos again, and as I'm rewatching this one now I so wish I could have gotten a print of it, so beautiful, especially loving all of those blue shades and gradient effect. Really wish it was still available.
Dear Emils, You are an inspiration. Seeing the thoroughness in the process made me cry. Have you worked at a printing shop before or have you learned your craft through practice? How long have you been working with printings? I ask this because you seem to have such precision in all the steps that I imagine you have been doing this for a really long time. Anyway, you never cease to amaze me, your work is trully masterfull!

No, I picked it up by watching youtube videos, I was studying art all my childhood and teenage years , but not printmaking, first lino cut started in the 2018 winter. To be fare I have a full time job in a tattoo studio so I'm multitasking a lot.
Masterful technique, beautiful result! Thank you for sharing your process. Your videos are a joy to watch.
Blimey, that is just incredible. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for sharing some techniques, very interesting. And it’s beautiful work, from the carving methods to the final print.
I got your Korean Tiger 🐅 print and I love it. I spent about double to get it framed so I can hang it up on my wall . Every time I see it and I do stare at it once a day it uplifts my mood.

Mis más sinceras felicitaciones, haces un trabajo espectacular y muy respetable. Eres un profesional.
Truly amazing. I love your work. I would be curious on how long this took start to finish.
These are amazing, I can’t believe how intricate the process is
wow, you sold out these exquisite pieces already! I thought they would cost far more than it appears you sold them for. How much did a print of this cost? I thought it would be thousands of dollars. but to honest, I don't know anything about linocut prints and their value I walked into a store here in Detroit. a few months that sold prints from linocuts and i was blown away by how beautiful they are in real life. so vibrant and elegant. You should be on Skillshare.

Interesting how you making out that sharp registration:) those tabs are very helpful but to do it with many blocks as you did the blocks has to be perfectly the same size and the tracing has to be on spot Compared with other blocks right?
I really like your implementation process. However, there is an inappropriate point in your research image, which is that in ancient times there were no printing ink tubes.
Why u not using the thinner chemical to transfer the image on the surface? It faster the process of tracing one by one..
what is the brand of your tools, can you do a review?
name of the first track?
