Linn Majik DSM Review // All-in-one

Ғылым және технология

MSRP $5490 CDN aprox. $4200 USD
Linn Audio has always been a pioneer in the Audio Industry. I still remember they released one of the first high-end streaming sources around 2008. The Linn Majik is Linn's entry all-in-one solution with room correction. With so many complete solutions how does the Linn still stack up?

Thanks for the review. Not often you see a Linn Majik DSM review. I’ve had a Majik DSM/2 for about 8 years. Pretty much agree with your review. You mentioned the bass is not robust. You also did not mention or use Space Optimization. Running SO will improve your bass. I was thinking of switching to either the NAD M33 or c399. Based on what you say, the differences are nominal. Thanks again.

Your welcome! You are right about space optimization which I think is a great feature. So much so I’m thinking of doing a follow up video. With SO you can play with the absorption characteristics of the room which you can fine tune the bass. Thank you for your feedback! Before you switch to Nad make sure you have a good listen as the Linn Majik top end especially in the one is very refined.

Thank you for the review as there are not much reviews around which really surprises me. I have auditioned Linn DSM 4 three times with various types of Fyne Audio and Sonus Faber speakers. With careful A/B tests I came into conclusion that Linn is definitely not on the same level with Naim Uniti or Cambridge Evo or CA CXA81+cxn v2 combinations. Its a big step up from the rest of the competition. Since it was double my budget three months ago I ended up not buying any of the mentioned competitiors cause they are not really worth it after listening Linn. In my opinion it is even better to buy an all in one Kef LS50 Wireless II half the price of a Linn system cause KEF is clearly giving better sound especially matched with a Kef62 woofer. Naim Uniti Atom, considering its nearly the same price range with Linn in Dubai is definitely not a match for Linn whether it is openness, clarity, cleanliness and the little details it allows you to hear in your music. Linn is a complete level up when matched with the right speakers and I should say that it is picky. Nearly 3 months after my audition it grew so much in me that today I have decided to get Linn and Sonus Faber Sonetto III speakers. Tomorrow will be my last audition to check Linn with Majik 140 speakers as I am very keen on Linn.

I got the Linn select DSM with mono organic DACs last month.. it sounds so much lively with a giant Soundstage compared to the mola mola tambaqui and T+A DAC 200.. thanks for the review.. agree with you Marcos..

Space Optimization (Room Correction) is a big selling point for Linn DSMs you kinda ignored.

I noticed that too. The Linn Majik DSM is also now "Roon Ready" with the latest firmware. This is a big selling point for some.

Interesting video, especially the comparisons. Linn is a company that always draws my curiosity, probably to some extent as a result of their crazy expensive higher end stuff. However I have never auditioned their stuff. Probably also because of not wanting to risk being drawn to these ridiculous prices and having to take a 2nd mortgage. I guess a comparison of the majik to the m33 is not truly fair as the m33 is twice the cost. I recently purchased the m10v2 which based on specs should be more comparable to the DSM and also Uniti Atom. How does this compare in your views?

We are just finishing up our video on the m10v2. We really like it and hits the mark at that price point. Compared to the Linn it really holds it’s on. I would say that power and drive the m10 is better. In terms of refinement and transparency I would give it to the Linn. The Linn should have some strong points in comparison since it is more money. Enjoy your M10 it’s a good pick!

@@Hifyed thanks for your reply. It is a great piece of equipment, but the network connectivity is very unreliable in my experience. Given the importance of a network connection on this device as everything is controlled through the app I will send it back to the store if Lenbrook isn;'t able to help me fix it. With this user experience it doesnt matter how it sounds.

399 holds up really well! In terms of output it will have an edge even at a much lower price point. The Linn will however more refined.

Just give a listen to the Selekt DSM, it is the best dac/amp I ever heard (so good that I bought the Organik).

Of course, if you judge your hifi in terms of bass, imiginary and clarity then Linn is not for you guys. If you instead listen to music, especially music you are not familiar with, and compare Linn with other brands on the basis of how think the musicians performethen things become interesting. A relevant question is how is the piano played not if the piano sounds like a piano or techical details of the piano. The only interesting way to evaluate hifi is to to ask only questions that have a musical meaning as if you listen live music, or judge a singer in Idol.
