Lyric hifi Linn Majik DSM4
The LINN MAJIK DSM has been a stalwart of our hifi range for many years now. It's combination of simplicity and superb sound performance is a winning one and we have many delighted clients that prove that.
Now Linn have carried out a major rework, all new circuit design and all new casework. It does look similar to their £5200 Selekt DSM but that isn't a bad thing! The clarity of the sound has also had a jump up and we have already seen several Majik DSM owners upgrade to the latest DSM4 and been delighted with the improvement.

Hi Rasheed That's a Kef Blade2 which is one of the best speakers you can buy. That version has 4 by 6" bass units and a Uni-Q unit which is a treble unit in the middle of a midrange unit to give a wide and even dispersion. This version costs £ 18,000 per pair Kef also make the original Blade, 2/3rds larger with 8" bass units that costs £ 24,000 per pair! Happy to install a pair for you! Regards Michael

H ello, is the dsm3 physically upgradeable to current version,dsm4? And likewise for dsm2 to latest? Cheers.

Hi The DSM4 is a completely new case so there is no way of upgrading an existing unit. Linn gear does hold it's value well so it's not too painful to go to the latest, I'm happy to take your earlier model back and find it a new home! I have already traded in both DSM2s and 3s against the DSM 4 Assuming they are in good condition with packing changing a 3 to a 4 will be £ 1250, a 2 to a 4 is £ 1650, 1 to a 4 is £ 1950
In your personal opinion which one sounds better, the Atom or the DSM? Cheers.

Its funny how much money affects perspective on a purchase. When the Atom was £1999 and a Majik DSM3 was £ 2950 they were chosen in roughly equal measure. The Naim went up to £2250 and the Linn came down to £2500 and Naim sales slowed while Linn's increased. With the new Linn DSM4 back up to £ 2950 Atoms will increase again although there is currently a flurry of DSM4 sales as it's new and we have DSM1/2/3 owners upgrading. I should add that this is just in our blissful microcosm at Lyric Hifi and this might not be repeated everywhere. We're not a supermarket, we are enthusiasts and we only choose the best. There is also the phenomenon of 'I've always wanted to own a ..........' fill in your favourite brand. For me the the Linn is better at what used to be called 'following the tune', although the Naim character of being dynamic, pacy and exciting is often an attribute people want. The Linn has an ease and a warmth to the music. I am happy to tell clients my thoughts however I always want them to listen for themselves and that's why we have a dem room where you can relax away from me and have a listen and a play with both. In my opinion these two are head and shoulders above the competition so whichever you choose you're not making a mistake, and it's your choice not mine after all.
