Chester Bennington was the lead singer for Linkin Park. This song was written in memory of a friend who died from cancer (I believe). All the while Chester was fighting his own battles with drug addiction and depression. Not too long after the release of this album Chester's friend Chris Cornell (lead singer for Soundgarden) who had been dealing with drug addiction and depression also... took his own life. Shortly after Cornell's death... Chester took his own life on Cornell's birthday. Such a tragedy... the love Bennington had in his heart for others... but he couldn't seem to find any for himself. This song is just amazing.

@larryshair 1:19 That is Chester Bennington, the vocalist on this track. The song was written by Mike Shinoda and Eg White in memory of a friend of the band, Amy Zaret, who died from cancer. The vocals were sung by Chester Bennington. A few months after the single became popular, Bennington took his own life leaving the band devastated and in a twist of irony. Since then the song has taken on a greater meaning for the fans as a dedication to Chester Bennington, like the last voicemail of a loved one who has passed. The fans saying the song is about Chester seem to be forgetting it is Chester singing it.

Everything you say is true. However, when Chris Cornell died ( One of Chesters best friends ) Linking park did a concert where they used One more light as a tribute to him. And Chester is singing it for him. Almost breaking down at the end. And that was where the song got this meaning. Because later, when Chester took his own life, he choose to do it on Cornell's birthday. Bringing one more light full circle. Now remembering both of them. Chesters tribute to Cornell. And through his chosen day, to himself. So the single got popular, or meaningful at that live concert. Or at least I would say so. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hJqp3KiLo6iaobg.html&ab_channel=Cloudrider

I read this song as a letter of desperation. Chester suffered from depression most of his life. If you listen to the lyrics in many of his songs... he drew a road map for us to follow. Really sad his closest friends couldn't put the pieces together quicker.

@@hardymontyhis friends knew but there’s nothing they can do. Trust me. I suffer from depression and everyone knows I do including my fiancée. August of last year I over dosed on my depressants and was in a coma, almost didn’t make it. No one could have predicted I was going to do that. That night I spoke to my bestfriend on the phone normal and happy. Told my fiancée I’ll be in bed in just a couple of hours, I wasn’t tired yet. I was happy, said I loved him and I’d see him soon. I hate when people “blame” the people around them. Those of us with severe depression are great actors when we need to be. It’s none of our loved ones fault or responsibility to keep us safe 24/7.

I’ve been following you since your Eminem first reaction and I always loved the way you reacted and shared your thoughts about the message these artists put out. I’ve always wanted you to discover Linkin Park because of how deep and beautiful, although sad, their messages have been. Chester was a big part of my adolescence, the whole band was with me during some very hard times in my life. When Chester passed I was devastated. He was a pure soul. I always looked up to him as to someone who was able to go on, even with all the struggles he went through his whole life. Unfortunately, he was not able to overcome those struggles. But his memory lives on, and not one day passes without me thinking of him. He was one of the most talented singers I’ve had the luck to listen to. “Sing like an angel, scream like a demon”. That’s the way we use to describe his voice. If you’d like to check more of them, I suggest you listen to: - Leave Out All The Rest - Given Up - Breaking the Habit - Iridescent Thanks for your reactions as always. I never wrote to you before but I really appreciate you and I’ve followed you for a long time.❤️

This song was originally dedicated to their friend who had suddenly passed to cancer. They later also performed the song as tribute to Chris Cornell, another famous musical artist and a close friend to Chester and the rest of the band, after he took his life. While those alone add to the already somber song, this was released only a couple months before Chester took his own life. This band matters so much to me and I have to skip this song every time in the car now, I just ball my eyes out every time.

I felt bad for days and haven't been able to listen to their music for months. Nowadays I can handle it better again, but the slower pace songs like My December and this one still bring tears to my eyes. This song is so powerful, and if I'm not mistaken, I think it came out just a couple of months before Chester Bennington took his own life. Tragically, depression didn't allow him to recognize how many people cared about him. I have to say that in my own life journey, when I was trying to understand and come to terms with the death of two of my sisters, Linkin Park's music got me through many a moment of rock bottom grieving. Their music, their style moved me and allowed me to express my sadness in all its raw hurt and darkness. I was so grateful that this band and their music gave me the straw I needed to grasp onto, to hold onto my own sanity and purpose for continuing to live despite the loss and the strong feeling of wanting to be with my sisters. It therefore came as such a shock to learn of Chester Bennington's death in 2017 just five years after my sisters died. I almost spiraled back down into the depths of grief that I felt once before, for a person I only knew through his music. And then this song. I will never hear this song and not form tears, but somehow it also instills the strength to live and to let those still with me in my life journey know how much they mean to me and how much I love them.

@@larryshair on that note i would like to propose one more Song of Linkin Park from their 2007 Album “Minutes to Midnight”. It’s called “Leave out all the rest”: kzread.info/dash/bejne/q45918-mhN2fnbA.htmlsi=7MjcxacrRYjnv4Xj There is many songs i could suggest you to listen to that are so deep and thoughtfully written and composed. Well this particular one shows how much aware Chester Bennington was of his own demons, the limited time we have on this planet and what might be when he will pass on one day, much like Eminem in “When i’m gone”. It gives me chills just thinking about it. You will find, the more you listen to their music, the intensity of the cry for help this man shouted into the world. For you own viewing, please go watch the live version of this song that Chester sang on Jimmy Kimmel. It hits even harder. The story is tragic in that he dedicated this song to Chris Cornell, the lead singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave. Chris and Chester were very close. Chris committed suicide. Chester dedicated that live version of the song to the memory of Chris. Chester subsequently committed suicide several months later, in the exact same manner as Chris had. Chester breaks while singing the song. There's a moment where he hits a note that just rips your heart out. You hear the pain and anguish in his voice. That same part of the studio version is very understated, you barely hear him belt out that line. But in the live version, he felt the need to scream it out loud and it breaks my heart every time I hear it.

Thank you so much for reacting to this one, for letting yourself be vulnerable while doing so, and sharing your wise words. It means a bunch as a fan to see that. While the song itself was written about a friend of the band - and had a live performance of it dedicated to another close friend of theirs, Chris Cornell, at his passing - it came to be a song for fans to grieve over the death of lead singer Chester Bennington, and the music video for the song became a dedication to him. This song holds so much grief in it's history, but it's fitting in a way, as death and grief is something universal. Chester Bennington was an inspiration to many who suffered from mental illness, and his passing from suicide was immensely hard to those fans who looked up to him. And we did lose some fans the same way after he passed. But his death also brought fans close together in a way that was beautiful to take part in. We gathered online in what was part support group, group therapy and a suicide hotline, and we fought for every single one of us to make it through. There was such deep love in there, such community. I'll never forget it, and I'll always carry that with me as a reminder of how much care strangers can hold for your life, when we show each other our shared humanity. Always, always reach out. I always cry watching this music video, but thankfully it's a mixed crying now, with gratitude as well as sorrow. Sometimes I smile as well, seeing those clips of him being goofy and sweet. I think that's when grief becomes easier to bear, when it no longer overshadows what you loved, but lives beside it. I'd love to see you react to more Linkin Park, but maybe something more uplifting? This one of tough. Have you seen any live performances by them yet? I'll have to check out what else you've reacted to after this. But if you haven't seen them live yet, please check out "Faint" at Rock am Ring 2007, I know you'll have a blast ❤

There are a few like this one from LP to get in your feels. Lost, Castle of Glass, and Heavy. Some other really high tempo and charging songs are Bleed It Out, Somewhere I Belong, Crawling, Papercut. This rabbit hole is deep. You could do complete albums of LP and completely fall in love with the music. Start with the Hybrid Theory album, and just run through them all.

I’m so glad you decided to listen to Linkin Park. This group, especially Chester Bennington, saved my life growing up. I mentioned back in one of your Eminem videos that he and this group saved me. I have endured sexual abuse since the time I was 5-years-old until I was 11. When I reached Jr. High School I noticed and realized I was different because of what I experienced but never truly understood why. I struggled with severe depression and anxiety. I used to cut myself to focus on that pain instead of the reminders and pain that I felt from my past. At one point I was considering suicide to end my pain. Then, I started listening to Linkin Park and Eminem and I started to see things differently and gain more strength to fight for myself. Similarly, Chester Bennington’s past resembles mine as he was also sexually abused by a neighbor kid for years. The day I discovered he had died of suicide I was devastated. How could the man that kept me from that very act for so many years have given up and gone out that way? I couldn’t accept it. It still hurts me, and in some ways, I wish I could have told him how he saved me and been there for him to save him. We lost a beautiful and amazing soul that day whose own pain and anguish we took for granted. Hopefully, one day, I can meet Eminem and tell him about his part in saving me, since I lost the opportunity to tell Chester. I still hold Chester close to my heart and memory and actually have a tattoo tribute of him on my right calf. I miss this man so much. Thank you again for showing this video and shedding a tear along with us. #makechesterproud

Hi Cutie Yes its important to tell people you love them. And I love you Chris. Your friendship has helped me alot during this last years. You do so much for so many people. I love the people Im getting to know in Here on your channel. I love this song. So sad that Chester turned out his own light 😥💔 Over to something more happy. Im doing a fun thing. My niece's 26th birthday is this weekend. When she was a kid she loved to play Cluedo. And now she got a new job to work in the forensic lab to process evidence in real crimes. So I wanted to do something fun for her birthdaydinner. Im making her a mystery murder to solve. I have props to everyone whos gonna be on the dinner. I have made clues and evidence for her to go thru and she can ask any of us if we are the killer and I have written down answers for everyone to give her. My parentes cant come but I have given them a clue so during the dinner they will call her and give the clue so they feel they are involved. Ita gonna be fun 😊 Did you hear that Pentatonix is releasing a new christmas album? 🥰 Stay safe my friend ❤️

RIP Chester Bennington, the lead singer of Linkin Park. He recorded and performed this song well before his death, hence all the video footage. Sadly he lost his battle with depression before a music video was made for One More Light. So this is what they came up with in the immediate aftermath of his death. The song is obviously about death and losing a loved one, so the song hits extra hard knowing that the lead singer's light went out as well. I encourage you to react to more Linkin Park songs. Just look up their top songs and work your way down, particularly Numb, What I've Done, Faint and Crawling. So many others as well

Chris, thanks for this reaction. I never lost someone close to me. I mean... I lost some family members of course but I'd lie if I said they were close... I cried the most when I lost my buddy to suicide when we were like 12. You said to tell our loved ones that we love them etc so I'm gonna do it right now. Chris, Patti, Louise I want you to know that I love you to death. I think about you every single day and I still can't believe God sent such amazing people to be part of my life. I know how it sounds but you are the only ones close to me, you're like a family to me. I hate to say that but even my real family feels like a group of strangers. Love you guys! And thanks for being here! I'd love to hug you all! 🤗❤️ Loved the reaction bud!
