This song is the title song of Linkin Park's last so called album, One More Light. This album was released in May 2017 just shortly before the band went on the European tour to promote it in June. After 17 concerts in Europe the band flew back to the U.S. for their North American tour. Unfortunately on July 20th, a week before the first USA concert, Chester commited suicide. He had battled depression and anxiety for most of his life and then, when he seemed to finally be happy and in a good place, his demons took him. He was and always will be the voice of my generation, the angel that got me and countless others through the worst times of our lives and in a way also our best friend. When I found out that he passed away I was completely destroyed and broken. I cried for days and felt the worst in my life. I still feel the same everytime I think of him, see or hear him, but there's also happiness in me because of all the good he did for all of us. He saved so many lives but no one could've saved his.. Rest In Peace Chester, we love you and we will always miss you. ❤

Chester was the guy singing this song, they sang it for Chris Cornell who committed suicide and Amy Zarat who died of Cancer and then Chester passed so this was also a tribute to him, but another song I'd recommend by them is Breaking the Habit and their newest one called Friendly Fire, it was unreleased but it was made for their one more light album in 2017. Chester took his own life, but he also saved alot more, I've become a better person because of Linkin Park. Rest in Peace Chester

They didn't make the song for a previous member, they made it for a woman working at their label, who worked closely with the band and helped them a lot first half of their career. She passed away from cancer.

I love this song. But that line ' in the kitchen, one more chair than you need ' breaks me. My mom passed in 2014, and the table looked so empty. Now there are 2 empty chairs at my table. In January 2023, my 12 year old grandson died very suddenly. That empty chair, for me, is a pain beyond anything else. Too many lights have gone out way too soon. Chester had such an amazing voice and had this way of reaching your heart. Chester's legacy of music continues on, creating new fans and keeping memories of him alive. #RIP Chester

Thanks for your reaction at this wonderful song. Linkin Park are one of the best band in the world, the only one band able to mix many genres of music. All lyrics are masterpieces and Chester’s voice is a gift that touch hearts. You should to react at others LP songs, for example: waiting for the end….❤

Don't know much about Linkin Park, but they did have some good music. This seems like a tribute to Chester Bennington(RIP) who is the lead singer.

Yeah it became a tribute to him posthumously. Initially it was a tribute to a woman at their label who worked closely with the band and helped them a lot first half of their career. She passed away from cancer. Then when Chester's great friend and artist, Chris Cornell passed (2 months before Chester) they also dedicated this song to him at Jimmy Kimmel Live

The song was inspired by the passing of a friend of the band, who died from cancer. It was meant as a song for people going through grief, as he band had grieved their friend. Shortly after this album came out, another friend of the band, singer Chris Cornell, passed away from a suicide. Lead singer of Linkin Park, Chester Bennington, was especially close to Chris. They dedicated a live performance of this song to Chris. A few month after Chris Cornell had passed, on Chris' birthday, Chester too passed from a suicide exactly the same way Chris had. Fans of Linkin Park naturally gravitated to this song for comfort in our grief, and the band made the music video for the song be a tribute to Chester Bennington. It's truly tragic how much grief is saturated into this song 💔 Thank you for your sweet reaction to this, I hope you will see more of the band in the future ❤

Still one of, if not the saddest song I know. I grew up with this band - And they have music for almost everybody. Pop rock, Electronic, Indie Rock, they've done it all. Linkin Park evolved their music with every record. We love and miss you Chester.

R.I.P. Chester Will Miss You Forever, Was at the last show in Birmingham UK on the 6th July 2017, Still get very upset every year on that date!! Linkin Parks music got me through so much pain and depression was was younger and had been following them since their first album hybrid theory back in early 2000's, went to roughly 30 shows of linkin park, all over europe sometimes multiple in same year either at festivals or own live shows, would suggest check out the song Given Up!!!

Linkin Park was one of the biggest bands of the 2000's. Numb and In The End video's are top shelf. If you love this watch his best friend and most amazing voice in any genre Chris Cornell do the song Nothing Compares 2 U live Sirius. They both took their lives within weeks of each other.

Chester was an unbelievable talent and the world is an emptier place without him. He unfortunately succumbed to his depression and took his own life. The saddest part is listening back to the lyrics over the years, the guy was basically crying out to be heard. I wish he'd got more help 😢

Chester Bennington (lead vocals) joined Linkin Park in the 90's and in 2000, the band was rocketed to stardom when their debut album 'Hybrid Theory' became a multi-million seller worldwide (selling 12 million copies in the US to date)... Chester was an average-looking guy w/ a powerful high-range vocal that immediately got noticed on any given Linkin Park song... 2nd album 'Meteora' became a #1 record in 2003... But fame did little to solve Chester Bennington's turmoil. Divorced and then in financial peril soon after, despite selling millions of records... Linkin Park bounced back in 2007 w/ the 3rd studio album 'Minutes to Midnight'... Chester and the band were able to transcend away from the rap/ rock scene that they had initially launched their career and worked to remain a musical force w/ more electronic-influenced albums. By 2014, Linkin Park was still going strong... Chester had remarried and welcomed 3 more children w/ his new wife, but his private struggles w/ depression, drugs, alcohol and personal issues from childhood sexual abuse ... His 2nd wife Talinda revealed years later that there were signs that he wanted to end his own life, but she was not fully aware how bad it was or how to recognize the signs that Chester was on the edge of no return... In May 2017, Chester was shocked by the suicide death of Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell... and appeared at the singer's funeral to sing 'Hallelujah'... That same year, Linkin Park released their last studio album 'One more light'... a major world tour was booked across Europe... then N. America. Chester did the European tour and returned home to his family and all seemed well when they went on vacation. Linkin Park were due to start their American tour that Summer, but it would never happen. Chester's wife Talinda though he was happy and well after returning home, but soon discovered that Chester was already gone... She discovered his body at their home in July - his death was attributed to suicide by hanging at age 41. A devastated Linkin Park cancelled the tour and honored Chester Bennington in October 2017 w/ a concert 'Linkin Park & Friends' at the Hollywood Bowl w/ guest singers performing w/ the band... Linkin Park have yet to announce any plans since then.

The thing with the "Black Dog", & where the person is suffering in deep depression, is that they see Suicide as being the answer & the only way to escape & release from their pain... It is the devastation that they leave in their absence, & the selfishness of their act, that hurts us all so so much, which they simply can't see whilst they are stuck in their dark tunnel & unable to come out the other side.., that "gut punches" us all, all of us that they leave behind. Where Chester in this song was singing for his lost friend Chris Cornell of Soundgarden. We know that, he cares greatly for that 'one light' that went out with the passing of another day, & his message is, that we should care more for those in depression & do everything we can to support & lift them out of it. Unfortunately in this tragic tale, the Black Dog came around again & this time bit Chester, & took him from us all. YOU are worth saving, YOU Matter, You - ARE BETTER than those who would take the tragic & 'easy way' out, to leave those that care about you behind in grief in devastation. If you are suffering.... tell yourselves these Mantra's. Breath Deep & Step Up into & rise above adversity, & you can do it, you can reach the next day & the next, & sometime soon.... that Spark of another human being with meet you, will find you, will save you to turn another page & move on with your life. R.I.P Chester - for sure the Vocalist of the Decade 😣🙄🤥😐😏🙂

While I love this song, it definitely is not an entry point into a Linkin Park journey. This album was a bit of a departure from their previous work. Everything these guys touch is gold. Even though I know this song, which isn’t like their most typical material, it’s hitting a little harder for some reason at the moment. Yet it was worse for someone I used to know: I tried playing them this tune but they turned it off. Since they lost a sibling to cancer, they just couldn’t listen to it.
