"But I'm tired" from 20 years ago. He was so tired of fighting back then. Yet he fought on as long and as hard as he could. His loss is hard to handle even 5 years later.

One of the biggest reasons this hits so hard, is that this song was fully recorded, mixed, and produced for the Meteora album. It was a last minute decision not to release it at the time, because the band deemed that it was way too similar to numb; so the file was just saved somewhere. It was for the 20th anniversary of Meteora, and the band going through old Hard Drives n such, that they discovered this song again, and decided to release it. That's why this song feels so fresh, and full Linkin Park. It's not like, the situation A7X found themselves in, in which they only had the voice samples and lyrics, and had to piece it together. This was 100% fully recorded and done by the late Chester Bennington. Honestly, this fact just mentioned, and the fact that we all know what happened to Chester down the road, just makes the lyrics and the song itself so much more... Painful. It was a scream for help and we failed to notice. Cheers man; love your content!

People noticed and he got help but he had clinical depression which is hard to defeat since it’s something that doesn’t go away fully. To give you an idea of how bad clinical depression is, imagine a scale of 1-100. Normal sadness is around 10, depression is around 50. Clinical depression is about 500.

When I was in high school my best female friend committed suicide because she couldn’t deal with her stepfather’s abuse and her mom’s alcoholism. We where very close and did everything together, loosing her was like I lost my other half. The week before she took her life she had bought tickets to see Linkin Park live, I took her brother with me to the concert and on our way home we ugly cried the entire way. Sadly her brother also took his life a few months after that. Hearing Chester’s voice in this song almost broke me.

So their second release called *Fighting Myself* Mike Shinoda said that they had found it in their archive and they all thought that it was just Mike’s vocals on it until they listened to it. None of them knew that Chester had recorded his vocals on that, so they were all surprised and amazed whoever they found it and listened to it. Pretty amazing!

It was real footage, some of it from "Live in Texas". I think anyone who was a deep fan of Linkin Park and Chester Bennington felt the emotional attachment to the song. It's hard not to separate the message of this song from what we now know. But that makes the song even more powerful! RIP Chester....and thank you...

I'm writing this 30 seconds in, because so far I haven't seen a comment mentioning this. "Lost" hasn't been touched since it was dug up from the archives. What you listened to is exactly how they intended it to be on the album. Mike considered touching it up but left it like this for authenticity.

This was released for the 20th anniversary of Meteora- it was recorded for that album but was sidelined in favour of Numb. Not going to lie it took a few days after it released before I could bring myself to listen to it- but it is just so very that era of LP. That voice... thanks for doing this one.

The only bad thing about this song? Its to short. No but for real, first time hearing this… its the same thing then hearing it now for idk 100 times. You get this feeling you got 20 years ago. After a few seconds you just know its LP. And then Chester starts singing and within just a few moments, it hits you so fucking hard in the face that he isn‘t around anymore. And thats something, that somehow never going to be easier or better. It still hurts the same it did in 2017.. maybe even more.

When I heard this. I thought. Awesome, a new LP song with Chester recorded some 20 years ago.. So cool. But when the moment came and he started to sing, it just hit so differently than I expected. I can listen to there old music just fine. But for some reason a new song with him just hit so differently than I thought. His voice just made me shiver right away, I did not expect it to hit in that way.. And the fact it was so unexpected make it so much more. And the moment he sings. " I am tired " there is a break in his voice, its like its pulled out. its just. Amazing song. and I can't put words on it, but what ever I am feeling, I really did not think I would feel listening to this song when I heard it the first time. You had sort of just accepted never to hear something new from LP and Chester again, so when it came. It just hit. They have released one more song since Lost called Fighting myself. Bands always have song they record but do not put on albums. Meaning there might actually be a cd's worth of "new" Chester songs out there. An other things after hearing it many times now. When the " I tried to keep this pain inside, but I will never be alright " Looking back there are many of the things he sung where people say, well he was telling us. But those lines are not like that, it was more a. He feared this, and it turned out to be true. Suffering from chronical mental illness is something you fight your entire life, and the best you can do is fight so it does not effect others. But you know inside you will never get to be alright. All the things others live for, is something you can never have, and there is not anything you can do about it. When you live it, that thought is the most heavy thing you carry. No matter what, your life will always be that, I will never be alright. Nothing can change it, no amount of love, wealth, power. I can have everything I ever desired, and I will still not be alright. Linkin Park always meant a lot to me, I was a teenager when they made it big. And they made so many amazing songs. And the influence they had on music is almost unrivaled, so many modern bands was and is influences by LP.. I do have an emotional favorite song though. I have "some" tattoos, and I have designed them myself, with the old Norse way of being used to tell my own story with them. So I do not have things from songs, or poems, or pictures whatever. Other than one thing. LP have a song called " This is my December " Not one of there most known, but I listened to it a lot. And I have in my tattoo the " This is my December " as a ode to LP. the only connection I have to any lyrics or band, so it means something. It also made sense because I am born in December, so it still tells that story. plus other connections to December. But for that reason I would say that is the most important LP song for me, can't say if its my favorite.

If you want to hear a different side to Chester then listen to the song System from the Queen of the Damned soundtrack. Jonathan Davis wrote the song for Queen of the Damned movie and soundtrack but couldn't record the song on the soundtrack at that time because of his record label. It is a darker sound from Chester that he doesn't do on any other song again. Chester also had his own band separate from Linkin Park called Dead By Sunrise. It was his other outlet for his songs that he wrote that wouldn't work for Linkin Park. When Chester embarked on the side band his bandmates from Linkin Park told him if it doesn't work out they figure out a way to release the album under Linkin Park's name. In 2018 Mike Shinoda released a solo album under his own name called Post Traumatic. It is Mike's journey through his grief of Chester passing as well as his journey of finding himself again through his music. Mike recorded parts of the album in his home studio and even recorded 3 of the music videos in his home studio showing people his grief.

Honestly, I think I've been putting off listening to this song- I don't know why. I don't know how to describe it. But this is the first time I've heard it, and it's got me in tears- the lyrics especially. They hit hard- so much pain for him. Thank you, Ken. You are always so insightful. I love your videos. I was thinking just the other day, I'd love to see/hear your reaction to a very specific performance of Chris Cornell's- from his live album, 'Songbook' - he does a phenomenal version of 'As Hope and Promise Fade' (which I think has been referred to a '2 drink minimum' at other times). I really want to know what you think of this performance- I think you'll be stunned. :) Anyway, love ya, Ken. From Melbourne, Australia.

After seeing a live performance of Chester on KZread, I felt so sad ...do you think it's possible that all the screaming he had to do for hours at a time during performances for years was taking a toll on him? I can definitely see how the pressure to continue performing like that would start to weigh him down, especially when as you age, your voice gets weaker. I have been thinking that his dark past, his addictions, fame, and the constant pressure to perform at the level he could when he was young would completely break him down. It makes me very sad for him. ☹️
