Linkin Park - Living Things Review: Dom's Iron Sandwich
Ever wanted to see an angry music journalist kick the shit out of Linkin Park? Well we can't give you that, but we can give you Dom Lawson tearing into their new album, Living Things.
Sorry, Linkin Park fans. If it helps, Hybrid Theory was good.

    I feel better already. Man, check out albums by Primordial, Alcest, Ulver, Solefald, Nachmystium, Arcturus, Ayreon, Devin Townsend Project, the most recent Nightwish album... compare the first couple of Anathema albums to the last few. Just think of how many sub-genres there are and where they came from. It's one of the few frontiers where new things are constantly being done, in comparison to the inert world of alternative and radio music. I mean, folk metal exists. That's simply amazing.

    I'm Linkin Park fan, but I do enjoy your review and see your opinions. I don't agree on a lot of what you say, but then again, right now this album is new. At first I thought Minutes to Midnight was outstanding. Now, I never-ever listen to the whole thing again, mainly two tracks. Good review man! And yes, I do find this exciting, and as a matter of fact I love both Lost in the Echo and Castle of Glass. Although I do enjoy negative reviews just to have a bit of objectivity. 7 out of 10 from me

    It's about a castle of glass. A castle is supposed to strong, but glass is weak so when you throw the two together, you get a weak castle. Or it's about the fragility of the human psyche. I don't know.

  • @etriplethreat
    @etriplethreat12 жыл бұрын

    I like LP and I'm all for hearing new opinions, so I was with you, and actually agreeing with you up until you said Korn's latest album was good and that you didn't understand the lyric "I'm only a crack in this castle of glass" (which is actually a very poetic line about man's finiteness). Even though I like LP, I get the hate for them at the same time, but they do have some redeeming factors. Victimized is a self reflective punk track aimed at their fans that references their older stuff.

  • @uberhalo3
    @uberhalo312 жыл бұрын

    Coming from someone whose forced themselves to sit through all of A Thousand Suns, this album was a colossal step up. I can understand the hate for a lot of LP's progression, but there are some truly creative songs on this record. The main problem with the band is that Shinoda thinks he's a legitimate rapper. He used to just talk in this deep bass tone which would sound good in contrast to Chester's vocals, but his ego is out of control. Bennington is the only thing keeping the rock in LP.

    I admit I used to love linkin park, but apart from their first 2 albums well 3 if you include reanimation they have been awful. I don't think they have any interest in guitars only electronic computer shit. They have no originality or desire in metal music most bands grow up and get soft but linkin park might aswel not exist. Only song on this album that I though was half desent was the song with rakim. Mike shined a rap was never the best but he did have he's own flow now he has no flow .

    I only like four or five tracks from minutes to midnight and that was an album many linkin park fans hated because it is considered an emo record more than nu-metal or alternative rock. I haven't listened to a thousand suns or living things I won't because it is like dom said the band need to become more controversial I agree they are too afraid to say anything that will upset their record company.

Linkin Park is still touring, still pleasing their fans, still enjoying their lives. instead of youtubing, do something productive with your life; get an actual house or go to band practice or something. im done.

    He's a good reviewer when it's an album he likes, then all sorts of metaphors and comparisons come out to describe the atmosphere, but in this one he's struggling to even enter the perspective whereby he could understand what the record's for. Once you've admitted "I just don't understand why people..." then yeah, it's probably something you shouldn't review.

    Loving all the wankers having a go at Dom here. If you're trying to show support for LP by doing so, try not to broadcast to the world that you can't argue your point without abuse or an encyclopaedia of typos. You're just undermining your own validity making everyone else think you've yet to grow pubes or you're just some sort of apoplectic mental case who shouldn't be taken seriously anyway. This is one of the better reviews Dom has done, mainly because it's the first one I agree 100% with :D

    The "genius" tag is being thrown around the place a lot nowadays. Mike Shinoda is not a genius, he's just in a band with a stupid name that's decided to make bad dance music. That and there's no point in "experimentation" when all someone's doing is chucking some bland electronica about.

    SOAD, POD, Rage Against The Machine and Deftones can't really be classified as nu-metal. Linkin Park on the other hand are (most likely) still classified as nu-metal and let's be honest, haven't really progressed very much beyond a few incredibly limited set of parameters.
