Great video! Was going tot buy HX Stomp for guitar, but after seeing this, I'm gonna use it for bass as well.

Really cool! I bought my HX Stomp years ago and it didn't make it to my live rig. I'm just playing "normal bass" in most situations. But this video inspires me to take it again to play around with bass sounds and synth or synth like sounds. So used the HX for some guitar amp sims for fun, but will check out the options for getting "we!rd tones" with my bass next. Thanks a lot!

First off, thank you so much! And to answer your question... the immediate answer is no sadly. BUT from what I’ve learned about the new update coming this year is that you will be able to grab any preset from anyone and drop it into your HX stomp editor and strip my preset down to exactly what you want/need for the HX stomp or HX effects. So as soon as update 2.80 hits....all helix products can talk to each other! Gonna be great!

Oh my dude! I’ve though this exact thing! Once we see the hardware V2.0 it might have some stuff like that. We’re coming up on 10 year old design of the first helix. Excited to see what’s next, hopefully we get some features like those. Great mind!

This is really cool. I had some nice success adding a whammy (no change on the heel, octave up on toe, about 35% mix). It adds some more high mids and upper end without sounding super digital. Have you had any success trying to emulate a more analog type bass synth sound?

Hey Chad! Awesome video my man. I am intrigued as to how you build this patch. I have a Helix and a number of other pedals I want to integrate (Future Impact, Bass Synth Was, Boss SY-300). Tell me, you are using the Moog to create the LFO Trem sound right? How is it all connected? Are you triggering via MIDI or just using the external Loops to integrate the effect - I couldn't see any external loops in the patch so it wasn't clear to me. Deffo going to purchase this patch though and keep up the good work. Your approach, humour and playing style are so similar to my Bass Sensei her in the UK its freakin' uncanny.

Hi Chad, Ooooh - exciting! I downloaded this one and your most bodacious Cello patch - awesome work. I'm a huge fan of synth bass shenanigans - artists like Muse, Nathan Navarro (Source Audio) and co really inspire me. I have a Future Impact (copy of Deep Impact) and am currently integrating this along with a Digitech Bass Synth Wah and a Boss SY-300 onto an external effects board for such purposes. I have used a similar effect to the Line6 Bit Crusher on the SY-300 before to get a similar tone but your patch kicks ass over this. Not sure what would improve it - potentially some form of sub-bass (like the Boss OC-2 type vibe) but this might be a tad tough to get close to. Other than that, I'm going to see where I can get with the Future Impact as this thing is truly crazy. I hope to post some examples of what it can offer with the Helix in the new year.

Aidan Bowen I have a few tricks of incorporating a “sub” bass channel into a synth filled patch. I know the future impact pedal, I’ll simulate some of those tones in the next video. Thanks for the suggestion!

Chad Carouthers just checked your sub-bass trickery....whoa fella, steady on there. It’s dangerous posting this stuff to us mere mortals!

I searched a lot and this is the only mention I could find for the sidechain options with the Helix. In my band we play wih an in-ear system and a clicktrack. Now I would like to play some more "dance"or "House"songs with that pumping sidechain effect. But to get that totally right I would have to feed the Helix an external sound or midi signal from our clicktrack. In the video you mention something like this, could you say if this is possible perhaps? Thanks for thinking along.

Hey Bjorn! The easiest and most effective way to do the side chain pump sound, go check out the Empress Compressor. It has a side chain input that is compression based. It’s how the effect is produced in the studio. Then all you have to do is send it a kick signal from your track computer, or put your own mic in the kick drum and then plug that mic into the sidechain input of the compressor pedal. Then you can turn it on and off anytime, also as long as your drummer is playing in time, you’ll have that pumping sidechain compression sound! Hope that helps some. Happy to trade ideas anytime.

Super Sweet Bass wound.... the camera is sideways.... it made it a bit hard to see/follow. I didn't quite understand "the side" chain, is that just the parallel mono path created from a split and merge? One other question: the repeats (of sorts) are coming from a tremolo block or two tremolo blocks, correct?

Yep, it’s a combo of two different tremolo blocks. 16th note square into a 4th note ramp up. Play with the depth parameter until you find something that works great for you.

Can the Stomp support this now?

Great sound! What are the full parameters you are using on both BitCrushers? You only show page 1.

@MascisMan1: Based on some tinkering, it looks like the Mix value should be set pretty low on each. I did 20% on the first and 10% on the second and sounds pretty damn close in headphones.

Keyboards players are stuck behind their instruments, but aren't bass players stuck as well? I mean sure they can move, but can they be anywhere else than behind their instruments to play? Food for thoughts...

Hey man! Links to the presets are in the descriptions of all my videos. So if you buy the synth bass preset, the “clean” comes with it. Just turn press the “clean” snapshot and you’re clean! But just so you know, this preset only works on Helix Floor, Helix LT, and Helix Rack. HX stomp and effects do not support this preset.

Glenn Calingasan first off, I can not wait to get my hands on a HX effects. Secondly, on the HX effects, you’re only able to run 9 effects at once. On this preset there are 2 more effect blocks than the HX effects can do, BUT looking at this preset you could streamline it and maybe not use a volume pedal block, and use an external compressor and BOOM you’re in business! The real MVPs in this preset are the bit crushers, and the tremolo blocks. Let me know if this helps at all man.
