I’m 65 years old now… But I had the pleasure of going to Hoyt Axton’s house when I was 20… Over at dollar point in Lake Tahoe. He was mixing the rusty old halo album… And it was my privilege to hear it before it was released. I got to go there because the fella I was caretaking at the time had business with Hoyt. It was my job to carry my employer Kenny on my back all the way up those stairs to Hoyts House. Was a big old St. Bernard name, fearless sitting on the floor. Of course, I was shy and kept my mouth shut. But Hoyt gave me a Budweiser, I don’t think he knew I was not 21 years old yet.… Fantastic memory!!!! But when I look at this video… I realize why I had such a crush on Linda. My God she was perfect!!! Her beauty… And her voice.…

I agree. I saw Hoyt at county fair in about '84-'85 & afterwards my ma ,my dad & a couple others spoke with him about some songs my uncle had written. I suppose he might hear those kind of things a lot,but you wouldn't known it by his response. Nothing but kindness & a gentle christian soul. And a big bear of a man for certain, with no menace at all in him for his size. So we were close in front on stage & right beside him after, big man. And he had a ton of great things to say about us here in the pacific northwest, and he just loved the beauty of the forest and the wildlife, the wild streams & salmon runs etc. that was all very kind of him & I'll always remember that show,it would have actually been the very first live musical performance I'd ever attended. The ladies on stage kept pointing at my sister cuz she was singing everything word for word,it made her feel so good & she just laughed. A beautiful memory, thank you Hoyt & friends.

Notice how Hoyt couldn't wait to kiss Linda at the end......can't blame him....
my god she has the voice of a POWERFUL angel. i listen to this video whenever i am down ... and it brings me back to the world.
The Greatest of Girl singers. No matter what she sang or who surrounded her she lifted that warm powerful voice in harmony. Very special.

You are right, best set of pipes of any female singer since the invention of recording.
I will never forget an evening in 1980 -81with Hoyt performing in a small barn in Santa Cruz with about 50 of us. Hoyt brought the house down with a voice that went straight to your heart . This duet is one of the best with two powerful voices and well loved singers, never to be forgotten.
Linda is the best singer in the world 😎
Wow, Linda just took over the chorus. Love that song.
Whoa! What a great sound. Man, I miss Hoy Axton, and Ms. Ronstadt never sounded better.

I'm so glad I had the good fortune of growing up through the seventies and early eighties. I got to experience the best in music, movies, and I'd say pop culture in general. This was beautiful......and so was Linda Ronstadt.
Their voices complement each other very well indeed.
I had the privelidge of shaking this man's hand. Great talent. He left us too soon.
Saw Hoyt in 1980 at the Palamino Club. When he left the stage I grabbed his hand and he squeezed my hand with that big old bear paw of his. I miss him so much, so talented.
Still gives me goosebumps.

She’s just amazing. She just sits there so casual and belts out the song so easily.

@@deadandburied7626I think he means that she just blasts it out with such power that for the rest of us it would be belting. In fact, when I saw his post I thought I'd posted it because I've used "belting" to describe her power.
Awesome! Linda was so cute in the 70's and Hoyt was great. I love it when they hit the chorus.
This song gives me chills.
A wonderful video that brings back many memories. Hoyt was a great and without a doubt underrated by the music industry. The public should have had more exposure to him I agree, he left us too soon!
only God could give a voice like linda has WOW AMEN
This gorgeous voice of Linda Ronstadt was given to her - a beautiful gift she was born with and now this gift has been taken. I'm just glad she did have this beautiful voice for many, many years and hope she can find another avenue to continue in her love for music.
I was lucky enough in my younger days to see both Hoyt Axton and Linda Ronstadt at the Troubadour in L.A. They were the only two singers that had such powerful voices that they really didn't need to use microphones. Such talent!

I'd like to think in Heaven we'll be able to pick times and places in history that we can just "drop in." The Troubadour in the early 70's would be in my Top 5. What a wonderful way to spend eternity!
I go back to this video every once in awhile and it always makes me smile. Miss Hoyt and wish Linda the best. She gave us all so much.
Her voice, just perfect!
Linda Ronstadt was one of the best and most versatile singers of he generation. She could sing Country, Rock, Pop, Folk and even Light Opera with both control and power.
Wow, this is splendid -- had never heard it before. They sound marvelous together.
i need to hear linda singing when will i be loved on hoyt axton show thats when i fell in love with linda voice and stayed faithful for 33 years

What a wonderful Duet, genuine & so, so sweet! Your voice will be heard forever Linda! 🥴
Man I loved listening to Hoyt. He will always be at the top of my list.
I had every cassette that Hoyt ever made. This duet is one of my favorites
that big earrings and that -purple - striped mini dress. she and Johnny Cash! another never to repeated again!
2023!!! My dad loves this song and now so do I. When the start singing the chorus…so powerfully effortless.
Hoyt wrote some of the best songs and had his own style of singing. Then to add Linda to the mix was awesome. There was a great mix in their voices.
First Axton forgets the name of the song, then Ronstadt forgets the words about half way through! If this performance were a minted coin or postage stamp, it would be worth a fortune. Great song. Really takes me back!
I was lucky to see Linda in concert twice. Her performances were perfection, and that was the standard she set for herself. And she always met it.
Man...id like to have been 1 foot away from Linda Ronstadt...singin into those beautiful big brown eyes...what a killer song...thanks!
What a gorgeous sound Linda had. She's was so diverse and yet it just comes down to that warmth and cry in her voice.
Just listening to how they harmonize together indicates they had a connection. Great song!
Hoyt and Linda RULE!!!!!!!
10 years after this I was on the road with Hoyt singing backups and this song. Always felt so much pressure on this song as each time he performed it, he seemed to relive his unrequited love for her...so I knew my parts had to be perfect. And, yes I heard the inspiration for "She collects hearts".straight from the horses mouth. I wrote a lot of songs from the top deck of the "honeysuckle rose" during those first four years of my singing career

+Teri Garrison Hi Teri. I loved Hoyt. I remember seeing him at the Palomino club several times and in Seal beach. When I saw him at the Palamino Club there was a girl from my High School singing with him, Her name was Jana Eberly [maiden name] I always wondered what happened to her. What songs did you write? They don’t sing songs like this today. So few great vocals now with all the folks listening to cRAP and hip hop.
That wonderful baritone along with that gorgeous, soaring soprano.
Two of my favorites of all time, dam they were good together....

Two of my favorite singers. And the gorgeous Linda, perhaps the most beautiful woman...ever.Makes me proud to be an Arizona native
Just great. Simply great. Will never get tired of this, never.
she sings with anyone and makes them sound better... that's her gift... love you Linda
I always loved Hoyt's baritone voice.
Two greats, best song writer, and a best singer! Peace and love!
Gal just sang better than the others. Super special songbird.
A couple of vocal powerhouses in their prime... great harmonies...
Hoyt Axton wrote a tune about Ronstadt. "I Collect Hearts" . Her voice was clear, unadorned and heartbreaking. Fascinating without all the pretentious bs - even way back in her Superstardom days - she seemed unimpressed with fame.

In "I Collect Hearts", Hoyt says "I will always love you, Linda." Hank Williams Jr. also wrote a song, "If You Don't Like Hank Williams", in which he says "And I love Linda Ronstadt". Randy Newman also wrote a song about her, "Linda", in which he says that he loves her.
Hoyt was a great talent in several ways. I first saw him at The Troubador in 1964.
I think that her voice was a great gift from the Creator. No one as yet can climb that high. Hoyt Axton has a wonderful way of putting out words that he turns into beautiful songs .Thank you both for the music I love.
When I first heard this on the album... I knew he wrote it for her.
God, I miss Linda!
Hoyt was a wonderful song writer...great post
Phenomenal!
Their voices sound so great together.
Linda...keeping us warm indeed.
SWEET RESPECTS TOO HOYT . . . . and that gal!
what's amazing to me is how he's got such a powerful voice, I'd think it would overpower another singer, but she makes a great match.

Yes this is a great song. They sing it very well together.
I have loved EVERYTHING this Golden Voice graced! Thank you Linda😊
I remember first hearing this when I was in high school. They had good pipes. The '70s are definitely over with their departure from the scene.
Hoyt Axton was my first Love, now he was 36 and I was well...6 maybe 7 years old but I still know most of every single song off the following albums..... 1974 Life Machine 1975 Southbound 1976 Fearless 1977 Snowblind Friend 1978 Road Songs His voice is the soundtrack of my childhood - Thanks Hoyt - much love to your Family
I would die for a voice like Hoy Axton. He had pure talent.
Breathtaking.A magical paring! Treasure this
That audience sounded at the end like a bunch of people who'd just heard something really good and wanted to cheer for it. Not the typical audience of a country show on cable.
Brilliant Brilliant Brilliant.
One of those magical tunes from two magical voices with the most addicting harmony! Linda's voice seemed to dominate here, but they both complemented each other so well.
I heard this song at a house party and I loved it the first time I heard it.
I love this song and this women's magnifcent voice. She made me cry and gave me hope when my too many love affairs came undone. I idolize her and her voice.
I have been in Country Music for a long time & found it very strong and beautifully done as a duet by Linda, and Hoyt. No wonder it was a hit, but I had not heard it until now. 'I must have been asleep' but this has certainly woken me up!
While there may have been better singers within some genres, Ronstadt excelled across all genres. Hers was a clear, strong and pleasing voice. She attacked each song with precision and elicited the last bit of emotion she could squeeze from every key word in every line of every song. She defined the job title of "Recording Artist" Linda Ronstadt is a rare treasure.
