Had the pleasure of meeting your uncle after his great show at Newcastle City Hall in the UK - must have been in the early 1980's. The support acts were Raymond Froggatt and Rose Marie. The sound quality was top notch. His new wife was on piano. Lovely memories :)

Hoyt was my cousin. Being a doofus, it was only about 10 years before his death that I really discovered his music. His Dad, John Thomas Axton was a coach and athletic director in Oklahoma for many years, and his Mom, Mae Boren Axton, was a gifted songwriter and the author of a book of biographies of noted "country" stars of her era.

what has it been 17 years since his death? in my opinion he's very much underrated & doesn't get a whole lot of credit for his contributions to music in general he wrote alot of songs that alot of people covered but very few if anyone knows about that he was behind alot of big hit songs some he sang & some others sang it'd be a shame if he's not in some hall of fame somewhere

Yes! The night Neil Young jumped on stage and played with him! Seems as if Neil was dating Hoyt's keyboard player (NOT Bambi- his future wife) I was there and went to Neil's Hotel with Hoyt and others- he was working on Lion in the Winter song and we all threw our 2 cents in, including Neil. I think it was the Fall of 1973.🥰
