    Jones is the most intelligent of that generation, he's one of those rare types who can carry an ego without a trace of narcissism, he always seems to have been that way. He's lived the rock n roll lifestyle, mixed with all that LA/New York crowd, probably been around numerous assholes yet the sleaze somehow never rubbed off on him or any of that British wannabe yank wild man crap like with Billy idol or that Depeche Mode singer. While Lydon gradually morphed into the Cliff Richard of punk for the British establishment, Jones seems immune to any kind of internally corrupting influence.

I thought it was funny when he played The KKK Took My Baby Away.....I can now really understand why Joey got so pissed off when Johnny stole her from him. I'm completely smitten with her now. Great interview! Linda nailed it for me about the influence that Johnny Ramone and the Ramones put out: if it wasn't for the Ramones and Johnny's playing, personally I would have given up guitar from just about where I started playing it. All the stuff I listened to at the time and wanted to play seemed so far out of my league. Then just when I was about to say: "to hell with this!", came the Ramones...

Regardless if you agreed with some of Johnnie's opinions or not, you have to admire and respect to the fact that he was sincere and stuck to his guns. In my opinion, he was THE man. I thought Linda was joining forces with the NYC people (Joey's brother Mickey Leigh, etc) and just making it a Ramones night? I heard that a few years ago. I'm sure it's still a great time! This woman has made a pile of cash from being the widow of Johnny Ramone. It's ironic then that she misses the point, especially her comment about punk not having any award shows. Punk doesn't have awards because the punk idea is anti-award. Punk is about DIY, not getting the approval of others.

  • @Vinseneb

    @Vinseneb

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yeah! she's at it with her museums and shit, The Ramones were a phenomenon for sure but she's just sponging off their history and you're right about the DIY aspect and some of the ideals that Ramones never had, and those terrible haircuts they had, too much junkie business as well. As for the music it's the type that you can play with your eyeballs shut.

    Steve Jones almost killed me once, I was cycling back from a record shop in Notting hill gate with my copy of P.I.Ls Death Disco single that had just been released and was excitedly hurrying home to put it on the turntable and wasn't paying full attention and didn't stop quickly enough at a junction and I just managed to avoid a speeding pink Cadillac, as I looked at the car while thinking how lucky I was that I stopped in time I realised that the bloke sitting in the front seat was Steve Jones. I thought it was quite funny that iit was him that almost knocked me over while I had a single by P.I.L on me while Jones was still in The Professionals at that time.
