"Fans of the African lion pride at Pepper Family Wildlife Center know that Lomelok, one of the cubs born on January 9, 2023, has experienced mobility challenges since infancy as a result of a narrowing of the channels that carry the nerves from the spinal cord. Recently, he underwent a series of tests to determine how his conformational condition has been progressing, and the zoo’s veterinary team, along with partners at MedVet, have determined that Lomelok will now undergo spinal surgery."

I was at the Zoo yesterday, Sunday March 3. Lomelok was still with the pride. It was an enrichment day and they all got meaty bones, I was a little surprised at how well they all shared, including Jabari.

Pilipili is already two years old tomorrow!!! Do u know if the zoo will celebrate his birthday?

I just got back from the zoo. For his birthday it was a meaty bone day. Dad Jabari and the 3 adult females got bones first. Then Pilipili and his 2 younger bothers got bones. The 3rd one year old cub is recovering from his spinal surgery.

@@gracepark-pf1ks Yes, March 5. He is doing as well as can be expected. He is back home in the lion habitat, however he is being kept in a small enclosure until his spine heals. The other lions can see and smell him, but the keepers don’t want him jumping/playing until they are sure his spine can handle it.
