Lin Manuel is such an intelligent person. It is a privilege to hear him talking. The island will get out of the debt eventually, the same way that the US will get out of the trillions of dollars in debt they have.

I hear so much about Puerto Ricans not paying taxes, however, in the hey day, the island was bombarded by U.S. corporations, especially the makers of Viagra, seeking their tax incentives for moving their business there, but yet when a flaw in the legislation that brought all those corporations there was all of a sudden gone, the corp moved out and left PR and took the jobs. Detroit was able to file bankruptcy, if Illinois could not file then there is a problem in that state, because bankruptcy is a federal matter not a state matter and if PR is still part of the US territory just like Guam, US Virgin Islands then they should at least be given the same consideration for restructuring.

Peachrocker That's an ignorant thing to state, you may have met a few Puerto Rican people but that is only a handful of individuals. We all don't speak in slang, a lot of us speak properly and clearly. You shouldn't be surprised that Lin-Manuel Miranda is well spoken. It's insulting that you would even be surprised.

PR seems to not be taking responsibility, they seem to be blaming congress. Congress did have a large part but PR lawmakers are much to blame. Also PR does not pay federal income tax, many of them evade taxes through a terrible tax collection system. Pay taxes and your schools and hospitals would be funded.

WE ARE NOT BLAMING CONGRESS WE JUST WANT AN F****** LAW THAT SAYS THAT IS MORE IMPORTANT TO PAY FOR OUR HEALTH, SECURITY AND EDUCATION THAN TO PAY A DEBT. WE SHOULD HAVE RIGHT TO BANKRUPTCY LIKE EVERY OTHER STATE. WHY IS THIS SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND. WE CAN'T MAKE THAT LAW IN OUR OWN BECAUSE WE ARE NOT AN INDEPENDENT COUNTRY NOR A STATE. YOU PEOPLE OWE MONEY TO CHINA BUT THEY CAN'T TELL YOU TO CLOSE YOUR GOVERNMENT SO YOU CAN PAY THEM.

Except states can't claim bankruptcy.the state of Illinois has stopped paying out the funds for education because of the debt/budget crisis. I'm sure the state of Illinois would love to declare bankruptcy to relieve them of the pension obligations they are under.

And guess what federal tax isn't the only type we get new taxes all the time to pay for our schools and hospitals but we have so little money that it's not enough you are just an ignorant American who is not well Informed about us.
