21st Century Renaissance man Lin-Manuel Miranda stops by “Tamron Hall.” The Pulitzer Prize recipient is giving us the scoop on his new film, “In the Heights,” which is based on his hit Broadway musical. During the sit-down, the acclaimed multihyphenate talks about the importance of the film and how his family inspired him to tell their story. The Tony, Grammy, and Emmy-winning creator also opens up about filming the movie at the same time as Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story” and actually sneaking Spielberg’s on set.

Lin is just the sweetest, and I adore him and he is an adorable, gorgeous guy - I love eveything he does. This film is amazing and I love Anthony as Usnavi. Oh and I know the cameo Lin is and his eyes are gorgeous too. And his smile is just ☺☺☺

From seeing this little show at 37 Arts and meeting lifelong friends, to seeing them live their broadway dreams with the show and later explode with Hamilton, I am so so excited for this movie and all my friends involved in the production onscreen and off!

The Heights was filmed at 175th Street. Here's the added surprise; till He was about 10 years old - Neil Simon, then called "Pee Wee", grew up, on that same street ! ;-)

I'm sure the musical is amazing, but I will not see it bc I think the absence of Afro Latinos in lead roles in the film is too blatant. Colorist exists within the Latinx community. My family is a mixture of light and dark from Portugal so we know all about it. Lin Manuel Miranda will continue to make incredibly plays and movies about our community so he has a chance to correct this.

Doctor King, asked "that Our Children, be judged by the Content of Their Character". In this case, that would equate to the Quality of their Talent. There is NO Quota, for that.

It's not that good. it came in 2d place over Weekend. He copied West Side Story.

1st, Yes I love "West Side Story" and especially the "America" number... But that Music, is derived from Music from Mexico. Where is the Afro- Latin flavor of NYC, in there ? It Doesn't exist, in West Side Story. How sad for you, Steve. :-(
