Sure I can get a little heated or salty about stuff I like/dislike, but to show hostility and stuff rather than let that moment pass...? Does more harm than good

I actually kept myself from watching any anime for years in fear of being judged for watching it. I even pretended that I thought anime was stupid just so I could attempt to fit in with the people around me. I was guilty of this in middle school, and then I went to highschool and found a new group of friends that were less judgemental and toxic. My new friends even helped me get into anime and gave me some good recommendations which was very cool. One of my favorite memories from that era was hanging out with my buddies and binging Death Note together, since it was my first time watching.

I love this video. It’s so easy to forget when society is so... judgy (among other things), so it’s nice to be reminded that it’s okay to like and dislike things (so long as no one is getting hurt in any way). Thanks for the video.

I realized two years later that this video may have inspired me to pursue what I previously considered “guilty pleasures” that I liked, but would never admit to liking. For instance, I like watching animatics, even when I have no clue what the animator is animating. That confidence boost led to me trying new things I considered cringe such as Monster Prom and Deltarune, and they’re now two of my favorite games. Thanks, Dom. I appreciate your stuff and miss your uploads, but you definitely deserve a break after being on KZread for so many years.

this is really accurate! rewatching this again but i already overcome this phase. i use to have criterias before (mentally) accepting co-fans. but i still have this mentality to not order the same things ordered by people i know because i feel guilty and i don’t want them to think that i’m copying them. even though i head over heels love that something.

Yeah, I like a fair amount of kids stuff, and as early as I think 10 I overheard comments to my dad about needing to get me out of it,and in general over time it kinda made me embarrassed to be myself. Well, when I was a kid, i liked girly stuff, but as i got older, i turned into a tomboy and it was no phase, it was the new me. I started to like boyish things during elementary school and middle school. But things changed, i started to like cute things again during high school and i realized something, I'm actually my own tomboy. Society told me things about tomboys, what they should and what they shouldn't like.

I know Im late to this video shush. I needed to hear this. I'm surrounded by people who almost constantly shit on the things I like (Lemon Demon, Talking Heads, DEVO, Stranger Things, Guaranteed* Video etc) and I've gotten very afraid of talking openly about my interests with them, leading to me feeling like I'm stepping on eggshells and getting more and more anxious. VERY controversial opinion: I like the prequels

Last year I tried my best to fit in class, in my family and group of friends. Do what they also do, hate what they hate and act like how they act. Though it took a long time to be myself, I'm starting to get a hold of it so thanks Dom, really helpful and will try to become confident about myself.

Dude, you’re so cool and talented. The animations u make are so fun to watch and u seem rlly chill. And honestly I agree with most of what u say, and this vid helps a lot. I miss KZreadrs who don’t care about what other people think so much and just be themselves :)

Over a year ago I got into One Piece,and I watched a recap video of every chapter arc,because one I don’t have the time to go over 1000 chapters and two it’s really overwhelming of how much catching up I had to do.And after watching a recap of One Piece,I felt bad because what got me into One was it’s appeal,and then after a while I realized that so what if I didn’t go through the anime I still like the franchise I don’t have to have so much knowledge of the franchise.

Omg the one talking about “you’re allowed to like multiple things” My ex got mad at me when I changed my mind about my favorite ice cream and he got mad and into this argument with me. I told him “well I changed my mind it’s hard because I like all the flavors” a year two after after we broke up he explained how it bothered him because he thought I could end up liking someone else.

Same. I take other people's opinions way too seriously, so when I like something that a lot of people hate (which happens surprisingly often), I just get super bummed out. It's so hard for me to enjoy something when all I can think about is how unpopular it is. Videos like this help me feel a lot better about myself and my interests, and I'm grateful for that.

For instance, two of my favorite franchises are Pokémon and Marvel. You know what they have in common? The popular opinion among both their fandoms is that they've gone downhill in recent years. Of course, people are entitled to their opinion, but as someone who still enjoys the newer entries from both of those series, the constant negativity really gets to me sometimes. While having unpopular opinions can really suck, I shouldn't let that discourage me from enjoying the things I do. It's tough not letting others' opinions get to me, but knowing I'm not alone makes it a little bit easier.
