Subscribed. These are the sort of experiments I love to try. I thought I was the inky one! Great videos mate.

You should try using a lightning to lightning splitter (one that you would use for lightning headphones and one for lightning charging). Then you could have power for both adapters. That might provide enough power for a situation like this. Thanks for testing this for us!

Looks like you need a usb3 hub attached to your Apple Usb3 adapter. The daisy chain experiment was worth a try though. So now we know, and you’ve saved us time and money👍😃.

Thank you for testing this combo. After your last video I bought the Lightning/USB3 Camera adapter, along with an Anker 7in1 USB-C Hub model A83460A2. The PD passes through the hub and Camera adapter to power the MiniPad5 and allows use of all accessories. I did not test HDMI tho.

Does it work if you hook up the device to the monitor with the HDMI, but plug in a mouse to the usb part? I have a phone with a smashed screen, but still works. Im hoping to mirror it via the HDMI port but be able to control and enable a backup using a mouse at the same time. Thanks in advance!

actually, you can use usb-to-ethernet adapter to lightning-to-usb 3 camera adapter and plug ethernet cable to apple tv or any cast hdmi dongle that provide ethernet port to use usb and wired hdmi at the same time

I mean apple does have like a 100 dollar dongle that has all those inputs Also there may be a backwash from the hdmi cable and charger and the device will not allow that power to run?

My iPad 13.4 could not recognise the HDMI adapter. My another ipad 12.4.2 still can recognise as usual. Do you have the solution. I am also using iPad Air 2 wifi. Thanks

@ Zahin Zulkipli Mine works fine. Try press power button and home button for 15 seconds the let go. That will clear cache out of memory. See what happens then.

Yeah, had the usb and just bought the hdmi hoping I could edit video on my tv using my new SE 2020, while having access to the files via the usb dongle. But nope. I wonder if they could come up with a new driver perhaps that could recognize and run them both, but may require to much processing or power? Thanks for posting this, at least I know I wasn’t doing something wrong.

Hi Tao. Great idea and well worth the test. I suspect that there isn’t enough bandwidth over Lightning to support HDMI and other data connections such as USB. This may also be the reason why Apple have never released a Lightning Dock, something with HDMI, USB and audio etc. Again, awesome video and well worth testing. I was about to buy the HDMI interface to do the same. Cheers, Dave.

Lightning is still just an old USB standard with a different housing.

Pls try with usb-c to lightning..... Charging and data transfer works....but not sure about any dongles....

@Sam P I don't think it will work. Looks like that adapter needs driver. The key here is that the USB port on the Apple adapter does not support video out.

I need a good combo hdmi usb lighting to lighting

in my opinion, the only adapter that is useful is that you can transfer files to or from your iPhone from a memory card slot and or a usb , i had tried from iphone to hdmi, the recording was in hd but didn't fill the whole screen and stopped every once in a while even on a hd ready screen was not full hd on other screens the resolution was not suported, other connection RJ45 wired bumped the internet speed test was the same and sometimes even slower, it was a 6 in 1 docking station from china, the idea is good, but its operation sucks a bit

I just needed to know

Just prior to watching this I did something similar. I ordered 1 hdmi splitter to go with my iphone mirror adapter in hopes to bypass the stupid hdcp security. The sent me three things. All wrong but possible so i hooked them up different ways…. Tv never recognized any of it except my original adapter which worked to mirror my phone to my apparently too old 2014 lg tv but didn’t bypass the hdcp security….. Now it doesn’t but at least my phone still works…… There should be a law that forces companies to upgrade or replace products forever….

What about 61w power adapter?

Hello , i have official usb3 lightning adapter and usb stick appears and disappears on my iPhone . It’s possible works with a 29/30W power adapter ? Ty - I love yours videos 😉

Pricey

You need a power source for each lightning which you didn't try. If you use only one power source for a lightning, chances are one of the lightning is drawing too much power causing a voltage drop that would make the other lightning with no power source unrecognizable by the iPad.

can you please figure out how and make a video on it because that's just what I need

Try a powered USB hub in between the usb stick and the Lightning to USB adapter.

The USB one does not charge the iPad no matter what

Apple do not make lightning to HDMI and USB together. maybe you can try Non-MFI product. you can search "lightning hub with hdmi" mabye that is what you want.

I’m about to try this actually - before buying the hub and the adapter (I am running iPhone so I need a usb c to lightning adapter too) but my interest is getting both ports AND hdmi + Ethernet (essentially turning this phone into a computer). Any luck with this idea anybody?
